About this property

Coverted stable cottage in beautiful Bishopdale

Situated at the end of this unspolit village in beautiful Bishopdale is The Stable. No through traffic, the nearest we get to rush hour is when the local flock of sheep is moved, it can be pretty noisy for a while. We converted a stable 12 years ago into a small but very special 2 bedroom house . Pre- Covid it was our home in the summer, but this year we cannot return . It is therefore equipped to a much higher standard than most holiday cottages with high quality furnishing, including some antiques. We would ask any guest contemplating sharing it with us to accept that some cupboards are private and 'out of bounds' though of course there is plenty of storage space for your needs. The house is set back from the road with ample parking for 3 cars. At the front is a flight of stone steps leading up to a door from bedroom 1. This is a feature typical of many barns and was used to take the hay into the loft so that it could be forked down to the animals as necessary.
The front door leads into the large, fully fitted luxury kitchen. There is a solid beech peninsular unit with stools ,chorion work top with quartz sink, induction hob, Neff oven and combi oven, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, iron. Full range cooking equipment. The back door leads into the garden and terrace.
.The spacious living/dining room has a coal effect fire, underfloor heating and lamps which create a cosy comfortable room with 2 large sofas and oak dining table and chairs. TV, video and DVD player., board games and playing cards for the relaxing part of the day.
A French window leads into the terrace and garden..
Stairs lead up from the sitting room to the 2 bedrooms. The Master bedroom has a king size bed and en-suite bath and shower room. Bedroom 2 has a double bed and an en.suite toilet and basin. Please note when booking that guests need to be aware of the bathroom arrangements.
The beautiful terraced garden has stunning views with a seat to enjoy them at the top.The stream tumbling down the fellside provides an in-built water feature. Table and chairs on the terrace allow you to dine outsde if the weather is kind enough.
From the front door you have access to the superb walking in the area . There is an extensive library of walking books to plan your days, as well as information on some of the many places to visit and the local eateries..
We do allow well behaved dogs on request and charge a supplement of £10 per dog. Guests with dogs are asked to agree that their dogs do not go upstairs or on any furniture.
Please ask for prices for short breaks

Beautiful Newbiggin
Trouble getting in as there was no code for the key when we got there and the family were away in Portugal. There were lovely neighbours that helped. The place was warm and comfy and a beautiful garden. The kitchen was well equiped except for a micro wave which would have helped and saved energy as would an electric kettle by not putting on the hub and oven. The fan in the second shower in the back bedroom was very loud and rattled a lot during the night especially when there was wind and as a result very disturbed sleep.

Lovely cottage
Wonderful few days staying here. Cottage is very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Garden is fab, steps up to the top tier (nice evening sun trap when the sun does come out!) need a bit of care but we were warned of this. Great location for us, the pub at the end of the road is well worth a visit for excellent food but do book as it gets quite busy.

A perfect stay
The property was overall excellent. The property was as described in the brochure, well equipped and spacious. Its position was ideal, in a very quiet street of old stone built houses in the heart of Bishopdale with plenty of walks nearby.

Lovely location
The house was very clean and in a beautiful location, 10 minutes walk from a good pub, however the property was let down by the outside patio area and garden which were poorly maintained with old and uncomfortable seating.

Excellent cottage. So comfortable with everything you could ever need. Spotlessly clean and a beautiful tiered garden. In a beautiful quiet hamlet but only 10 minutes walk to a lovely pub. Planning on booking again next year.

Beautiful Location
The cottage was lovely, equipped to a high standard. The communication was very good. The views from the garden were breathtaking and the best thing about the whole experience was finding the waterfall in the garden, and sitting reading next to it.
