Large lawned garden with patio and garden furniture. 2½-acre natural grounds and woodland (shared with owner). Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. Please note: There are steps in the grounds which are adjacent to a reservoir.. Hunter House Cottage is in the wings of the owner’s stunning country house. It is nestled on the shore of the Derwent Reservoir with spectacular views over the dam towards Hownsgill Viaduct and across the Derwent Valley. You will find it hard not to keep glancing at the view.
With your own private entrance from the courtyard, step inside and you will find a large comfortable living room with access to the rear lawned garden and seating area. The dining hall, with windows to the front and rear, including a feature double height arched window overlooking the garden, is adjacent to the large, well-equipped kitchen, perfect for cooking up a hearty breakfast to start your day. The staircase leads up from the dining hall to a galleried landing, with a timber beamed ceiling and access to the bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities and views over the rear garden or reservoir.
Accessed via a rough track, the property is set within mature grounds and gardens extending to around 2½ acres and you will see plenty of local wildlife during your stay. Ideal for couples, families or walkers, there is so much to do in the area. The reservoir is 3½ miles in length with a thousand acres of clean, open water, which is devoted to fishing, wind surfing and sailing, with five generous slipways for easy launch. Golfing enthusiasts will delight in the ample choice of prestigious courses close by, one being the superior De Vere Slaley Hall. Ramblers and cyclists will enjoy exploring the heather moorlands with rugged uplands which include some of the highest, wildest and most beautiful scenery in the country. Hamsterley Forest provides miles of lovely forest walks leading to High Force, England’s largest waterfall.
The Beamish Open Air Museum is just half an hour’s drive away where you can take a tram ride back in time. Visit the historic city of Durham with something for everyone, or for those looking a little closer to the cottage, why not enjoy the circular walk around Derwent Reservoir and stop off at the visitor centre for a coffee and slice of cake on your way back. Shop 3 miles, pub 2 miles and restaurant 3¼ miles.
