The outdoor space and waterfront are fantastic – lots of space for lawn games, kids and pets, and a great dock for sunbathing and swimming. However, there were several maintenance issues, and we were particularly upset by the interactions with the property owners, who treated us in an abrasive and downright intimidating manner.
Regarding the property, upon arrival on Saturday, we were informed the drain in one of the showers was not working and that a plumber wasn’t coming until Thursday (near the end of our stay). Given the number of full bathrooms was a primary motivator for renting, I expressed to the owner that we really need the shower drain fixed promptly or we would expect some type of refund. A plumber came on Wednesday, but we were informed the drain could not be fixed. It’s clear the shower drain has been an issue for quite some time based on a review from August 2019. It’s misleading for this property to be listed as having 3 full bathrooms on VRBO. Additionally, the faucet in one bathroom ran constantly, showers were grimy, and the back porch lights didn’t work so grilling for dinner required car lights and headlamps.
We also had several uncomfortable interactions with the owners, who live nearby (there are several houses owned by family members on the grounds). On the first night, we walked down to the dock to sit by the water and have a fire. Immediately one of the family members approached us and rudely berated us for being there. We learned later that there is a strict 10pm noise ordinance (this was not mentioned in the house rules). It would have been fine if the owner politely informed us of this rather than attacking us verbally in such a disrespectful manner. A few days later, we were attempting to open the umbrella on the dock when this same person showed up and accused us of breaking it (completely ridiculous assumption). Again, it was the aggressive and intimidating demeanor that was upsetting. One other incident worth noting – a friend of ours who lives on the lake stopped by with his family on their boat. They stayed on the dock the entire time. It was later mentioned to us we had violated the ‘rule’ of 8 total guests on the property – we thought this meant the house. If the owners communicated this to us, we would have asked our friends to leave immediately.
Overall, if you stay here, expect to be watched like hawks by the many family members that live nearby, and in some cases, be treated rudely and disrespectfully.
