New Orleans northshore retreat. One hour from the city to tranquility.
A french country home tucked in a wooded sanctuary overlooking a quiet pond. The property has beautiful views and abundant wildlife. The home includes a living room, dining room and a large country kitchen. There are three bedrooms and have their own private bathrooms. Each bedroom comfortably fits two adults. I have accommodated up to 3 in the largest bedroom. Two bedrooms have king size beds and one bedroom has a queen size bed. The home opens onto a large flagstone patio that overlooks the pond where you may see deer, blue heron, egrets and koi. Nearby attractions are Global Wildlife (nature preserve), Ponchartrain Vineyard, farmers markets, antique shops, and various festivals and art shows year round. Folsom is also known equestrian center and hosts many nationally recognized shows (hunter-jumper, dressage). Polo tournaments are held every Sunday in polo season across from my property. I am located only 45-60 minutes from New Orleans. Many guests enjoy New Orleans and look forward to coming back to the peace and tranquility of the country.

Older property. Very large. Beautiful pond and surrounding wooded landscape. Nice manager. House needs a living room to gather in and bathrooms were small. Bees from hive came in from master fireplace. Didn’t sleep there because of it. We shared a room. That should be fixed. Manager locked third bedroom because there were on two of us but we could have used it after the bees came in.
Great place. Really cool house. I appreciate Margot’s attention to detail and care for us.

Did not stay
We arrived late in the evening - the directions on maps were incorrect, the directions on VRBO were incorrect, the directions on WAZE got us close, however there were not any signs and we had to turn left and go around a long fence - some additional signage would be helpful, especially in the dark. We had to call the host for directions- she lived close by - and came quickly to help. When we went inside, there was an immediate odor of mold and dander like the home had been closed for some time. We looked around to give it a bit more time, but the longer we stayed, the stronger the odor of mold. We have three people in our property allergic to mold and their eyes started watering and throats started getting itchy. We made the immediate decision to leave this VRBO and go to a hotel. The coffee pot had mold in it, there was not any carpet in the dining room and the property needed to be deep cleaned. It was unfortunate because we were looking forward to the view in the morning.
This is a nice home in the country with plenty of space. The owner is nearby and is accessible for any needs. One improvement I would suggest is to make the house brighter, as there are not many lights inside and the ones that are there don't provide enough light.
The architecture and layout of the property/landscaping was very well thought out and was fun to see. The house was clean and spacious. The quiet privacy of the house was really nice after spending a busy day in New Orleans. There were turtles in the pond that we enjoyed watching. The house had everything we needed and we would stay again if visiting the area.
Normandy house is a beautiful tranquil place. We loved our stay there and loved to BBQ on the terrace looking over the lake. The-owner was great to communicate with and gave us great insight into the Fulsom . The property is lovely to walk around. Also it is a small distance to all the amenities of Fulsom and Abita Springs. It was truly a lovely experience
The house is unique with a massive master bedroom and great scenery in all directions outside of the home. The host was friendly and quick to respond when it came time to check in. Would visit again.
This house was very clean. Very nice country getaway with lots of room. Grounds were tranquil and relaxing. Margot was very responsive to any and all needs. We will return to stay again.
Property manager very friendly. Lots of space inside and outside of the house. House is fairly old, quite unique, not in pristine shape, but clean and comfortable. Lovely property with lots of trees, grassy areas and a lovely pond with a big deck near the water. Outdoor setting is fantastic!
Enjoyed the house. Was very convenient to our horse show. House owner very friendly and helpful.
Enjoyed staying there very much. Was very convenient to our horse show. The owner of the house was very helpful and very friendly. We will stay there again
We enjoyed the nostalgia of this country French property and it was ideally located for the equestrian event we were attending. The host Margot was very accommodating and even met our daughter in the dark upon arrival to help her find her way. I particularly loved the huge fireplace in the massive master bedroom with the cathedral ceiling. I bought extra wood at the feed store in Folsom to keep it going the entire time we were in the house. The large pond outside the master and just beyond the stone patio was home to Canadian geese during our stay with grazing horses and cattle just beyond. A fabulous respit from city life. The home does have some quirks ,as I do,mostly related to it age but I found beauty there. Margot is outgoing and talkative and provided us with the interesting history of the home, property and her family. A gem. We would definitely return.
