The Sloping Porch Guest Cottage @ Rio Hondo Vally Alpacas-No Cleaning Fee
Take a trip back in time when life was much simpler. There is nothing but silence, the sound of the Rio Hondo River and the rustling of the century old cottonwoods. You can sit by a 100' pond and watch the friendly Mr. Goose and the wild Mallard Ducks or you can set by the River Hondo and watch it make it's way to the Rio Grand. A short walking distance to the other side of the property is the working part of the farm, consisting of Alpacas, Chickens and of course the gentle Great Pyrenees who watch over all. You can learn the history of the Alpaca and visit out studio to see what we do with the Alpaca fiber. We are located on a 13 acre private estate half between Taos and Taos Ski Valley. The cottage has a full kitchen, bathroom with tub shower combo and a living room bedroom combo area. Please visit our other guest house and read the reviews. Listing #304504.

The Sloping Porch sits on a 13+ acre ranch alongside the Rio Hondo (which in early October was pretty quiet). The house is a good size and the two of us were very comfortable there. The hosts, June and Jim, have lived on this property for 30 years and have really made it something special and are lovely people. Jim is also quite creative and has made so many great sculptures around the property, plus he built the Treehouse that is also for rent!
You’re only 10 mins or so from Taos (though current road construction can stretch that a bit). We LOVED being there and look forward to returning someday soon!
Our stay at the Sloping Porch Cottage was absolutely incredible. The property was like something out of a fairytale, the cottage itself was clean and cozy, and Jim and June were the perfect hosts.
Can’t recommend this property enough!
Beautiful property off the beaten path near Taos. The owners are wonderful and gracious. I was able to meet the alpalcas and feed them a treat. We enjoyed our time sitting by the river and pond. Lots to do and see in the area to occupy our time. The cottage was clean and so pretty. Bed very comfortable. Amazing, beautiful place to unwind from the daily grind. We will be back thank you for sharing with us.
Comfortable and cozy casita in well manicured estate with a small pond and the Rio Hondo close by. Friendly and helpful owners. Alpacas, dog, cats and wild critters abound. If your eyes are light sensitive, then the skylight over the bed might be a minus for you. Otherwise, this has to be one of the better VRBOs we have stayed at. Definitely will return sometime.
Everything about our stay was perfect: location, setting, amenities, and the hosts. Anyone looking for a comfortable, cozy cabin that is set close to town but feels like you're in your own naturally beautiful place, needs to stay here. Everywhere you look, there is beauty - trees, flowers, landscaping, pond, art, river, birds.
We enjoyed day trips to Taos Pueblo and Ghost Ranch, but intentionally spent most of our four-night stay at the cabin. We will definitely return to explore more of the area and soak in the peace and quiet.
What a beautiful place to unwind and relax. Property is so well maintained and cozy. From walking around the 13 acres with green trees and blooming flowers, cool stream and pond. The hosts live on site just a few a stone’s throw away with the friendliest farm dog around. June and Jim were kind and welcoming they have alpacas and we were able to feed them which was a fun experience. I would recommend this tucked away spot just a quick 15 minute drive from Taos to anyone. We stayed in summer but I bet in winter with its two kiva wood burning fireplace it would be divine.
This was a return trip for my husband and I. This property offers so much quiet and relaxation and was perfect for recharging our batteries! Shopping and dining are a short drive away as well. Hosts are very pleasant and the animals on-site provide humor and entertainment! Thank you for such a wonderful stay!!
Serene and green setting, a lovely combination and a rarity in the arid Southwest. The tiny house is cozy and charming and the hosts accomodating. Thank you!
Jim & Jun were gracious hosts and the property is amazing. They went out of their way to spend time with my grandkids and let them feed the alpacas. The area next to the river is magical.
Cannot beat the location by the pond and river. The cottage is fully stocked. Super nice fireplace and comfy bed. Incredibly cozy. Great for a getaway. Owners are so nice and make check in and check out easy. We'll be back.
