About this property

Bayou St. John Jazz Fest Gem

Our Historic Home is registered on the Federal National Historic Properties Preservation list. And the old adage of location, location, location is defined by our wonderful home. You may find a few less expensive dwellings but there is another adage that you get what you pay for; and we believe the pricing on our rental is a bargain for the charming experience it provides and it's superior location with a roomy 1000 square feet inside living space and a lovely porch garden area.

Historic Esplanade Avenue was the first Avenue built outside the original city, The Vieux Carre. Our lovely, charming 1-bedroom rental is adjacent to our home and is filled with comfortable furnishings and antiques; has central air / heat; a piano; oriental rugs; a great porch with a view; and is a mere 1.25 miles walk to the French Quarter. Surrounded by neighborhood restaurants, grocery stores, bars, hair salon, New Orleans Museum of Art, City Park, Golf, Bayou St. John, bayou water sports, The Fairgrounds Race Track, Jazz Fest, City Park Festival Grounds, and much more. The apartment has a mini fridge, coffee maker, and microwave; and we are directly next door to an excellent full service coffee house. Transportation is easily accessible through a bus stop at the corner, city wide blue bike rentals at the corner, bicycling on the Avenue bike path, streetcar at the park entrance, Taxi, or Uber.

Come live a Metropolitan New Orleans Lifestyle in the heart of our magical City just like a native New Orleanean!

Very nice historic property

This was a very nice historic property and well maintained. We have 2 things that we want when we stay at a hotel or a VRBO: a comfortable place to relax and a comfortable bed. Unfortunately Joe did not inform us before we arrived that the couch was broken and there was not a comfortable place to relax. Joe told us when we arrived that it was broken and that he was working on getting a replacement. That did not make the couch any more comfortable. The bed was not comfortable for us either. The mattress was too soft and the foot of the bed was higher than the head of the bed. The third night that we were there, we switched the sheets so that our feet were by the headboard. It was better. I understand that people have different preferences in the firmness of a mattress. If you like a very soft mattress without much support, then you will like this bed. Joe did refund $50 for the broken couch. That was a good gesture but very minimal since we didn't have a comfortable place to relax for the 4 days that we were there. I would recommend this place if it has a new couch.

Just what we needed

It is a beautiful place in a great, walkable neighborhood. We spent a week in NOLA seeing the sights and this was a great place to be based out of. Joe was a very responsive host and we had a relaxing time. The street parking was convenient. We would stay here again.

Hope to be back!

The trip was for my 89-year-old mother who grew up on Esplanade Avenue and we moved her a few years ago to be with her children. I wanted her to get back to her roots and this home met all of our expectations. The Host was very accommodating, the house was just beautiful and very comfortable.

What a charming home!

This is a beautiful and charming older home in a lovely neighborhood filled with restaurants that can be easily walked to. Bike rentals and trollies are easily accessible for visiting sites that may be too far for you to walk. And everyone we met was very friendly.

Anniversary getaway.

Perfect for our visit to New Orleans. Close enough to all we wanted to do...but the location is in a quiet very quaint NOLA neighbor hood that could easily have been a destination in its own right..with everything that you could want. Accommodations left us wanting for nothing...a great stay!

Historic New Orleans Experience

This property is quiet, well maintained, and furnished beautifully. It's fully stocked with coffee, water, plenty of extra towels, and so much more. It's right next door to a coffee shop and a short drive to many local restaurants and breweries. Would recommend and would stay again.

Halloween 2022 in Nola!

Joe was extremely organized and structured on his check in/check out processes, with the best communication. He immediately responded to anything needed and was close by, always. The apartment was pristine, even the lawn was so well manicured! This area is one I would love to live in if I were to move to Nola; very friendly neighborhood, with a number of tasty restaurants within walking distance...even a coffee house right next door! Parking for our rental was never an issue. If no vehicle, the quarter is a short Uber/Lyft or bus ride away. This would be THE SPOT for Jazz Fest. I would love to stay at Joe's again in the future and it felt like a home away from home. Thank you, Joe!!!

A nice place but needs a few new touchess

A nice place but a lot of traffic especially at night. It is 2.5 miles from the French Quarters. Wished they would've had information and a map of the French Quarters and neighborhood. That would've helped us alot. Owner very nice and accomodating on the phone. He was out of town the time we were there. Wished we rented a car to get around as we ended up calling a cab quite frequently. Ubers were never available and they were more expensive anyway. You don't want to walk at night. Overall it was good.

True New Orleans Home

I grew up in this neighborhood and was in town for a reunion. I couldn't have chosen a more perfect property for my visit. It was immaculate, beautiful and I felt very safe. The AC worked GREAT (this is very important for a New Orleans summer rental). My recommendation to guests driving into town is to stay in the Bayou St. John area. It's authentic old New Orleans without the tourist hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. Great restaurants in the area as well. I will stay here again.

A true New Orleans neighborhood experience

A true New Orleans neighborhood experience Excellent is not a high enough rating to give this outstanding property and exceptional host. As a native of New Orleans , who now lives away, I was looking for a place that would feel like home folded into a beautiful familiar neighborhood, in walking distance to many favorite places. The photographs do not do the dwelling justice . The rooms were lovingly appointed, nice blend of both modern and antique . The spacious living room held all could want in terms of multi generational interests , and information about local sites and events , including the morning paper, delivered every day. I was especially delighted to find music books left out on the piano bench , quite likely because I had inquired about playing. Ample parking availability was also much appreciated. In sum , it doesn’t get better than this if you were seeking a to stay in a happy , safe, welcoming place that resonates in a sense of heart , soul , beauty , and of New Orleans .

Charming New Orleans property!

Great location, quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to several fabulous restaurants. Comfortable spacious apartment with wood floors, tall ceilings and tasteful furnishings. Bathroom was clean, authentic fixtures, however a bit small. Joe was an accommodating host - demonstrated lights, heating functions, apartment amenities. Would definitely stay there again!

Southern Hospitality

I don't usually leave reviews, but Joe and Ann went out of their way to be kind and helpful during our stay in this beautiful home. It's a real New Orleans home, with tall ceilings and lovely light filtering in from the delightful Esplanade Avenue. The presence of CCs Coffee right next door, with all kinds of breakfast food, made having a kitchen unnecessary (a small fridge was helpful for leftovers). And Iko is the world's friendliest dog.

I'd give it more stars if I could!

I've been to nola several times but missed this location in Bayou St. John before. It's beautiful, walkable and has lots of available street parking. The house was the best kind of historic architecture, with high ceilings and big rooms, furnished with lovely pieces. I really enjoyed the old book collection. In addition, there were thoughtful modern touches like a comfortable bed, good wifi, great-smelling bath products and Keurig coffee. The hosts were informative when we asked questions and otherwise unobtrusive, which we appreciated. We had a great time here and hated to leave.

Excellent location, attentive hosts and beautifully decorated.

This was our first time staying on Esplanade. The property was a beauty inside and out and reflected the style of New Orleans. Our accommodations were spacious, comfortable, clean and centrally located to all of what we came to NOLA for...family, friends and food. If we couldn’t walk (we like to walk) to where we wanted to go then both Lyft and Uber’s were plentiful to get us from Point A to Point B. CC’s coffee shop conveniently right next door, convenience stores a short walking distance away along with a laundromat and several quality eateries. Property owners Joe and Ann were very accommodating to our needs, provided recommendations of local restaurants and also copies of menus to help you make your meal planning a breeze. 12’ high ceilings, large spacious widows which let in plenty of natural light, wide plank floors, mini refrigerator, comfy bed and mellow neighborhood all add up for an easy going stay.! We know we will be back to Nola and on Esplanade Drive again in the future and this property will be our first pick thanks in large part to not just the property but also owners Joe n Ann.

Ideal New Orleans respite.

The property is an historic home with lovely architectural details which the furnishings reflect. The living room is a comfortable spot for reading or watching TV. Despite being on a fairly busy street the apartment is very quiet making sleeping in a real treat. The property is in an ideal setting for strolls in the neighborhood, the City Park, the bayou and other restaurants, wine shops etc. The front porch is perfect for watching the day go by!
