About this property

Le Chai@Le Roudier 2 bedrooms with 14x7m shared pool in 16+ acres nr Bergerac

LE CHAI meaning wine store is as the name describes the original 'wine barn'. A fantastic gite for 4 people benefits from its position at the west end of the complex which is cooler in the summer heat.

The private terrace and BBQ area provide a peaceful retreat and fantastic views of the neighbouring countryside. The living area and kitchen retain all the original stonework and beams filling this cottage with character. The 2 bedrooms (1 twin and 1 double) have been tastefully decorated and come equipped with cot, high chair and play pens if required. The gite has wifi, satellite TV and DVD and fans for those hot summers nights. This is truly some of the best accommodation in the area with no hidden costs.

The 300 year old stone buildings have been sympathetically renovated to a high standard yet they retain all of their original charm.

Le Roudier is a fantastically restored farm complex consisting of 5 properties, four of which are based around the large 14 x 7m shared pool and large terrace with panoramic views of the wonderful Dordogne countryside.

The fifth a luxury house is just a few steps away, boasting its own swimming pool and jacuzzi.

The 300 year old stone buildings have been sympathetically renovated to a high standard yet they retain all of their original charm.

All Gites are fully equipped and have wifi, satellite TV and DVD players as standard. The buildings are surrounded by 16+ acres of gardens which are an ideal and safe area for children to play and explore.

The games room just off the pool terrace with table tennis and bar area offers an ideal shadey retreat from the mid-day heat and it provides an excellent space for communal events.

Deep in rural France, Le Roudier is set in one of the finest food and wine regions of the world. The vineyards and local cuisine are second to none and the historic chateaux and bastide towns allow visitors to truly immerse themselves in the rich character that this region offers.

The Dordogne valley, only 15 minutes from Le Roudier, has a wealth of interesting history dating back to Neolithic villages and wall paintings most which are open to the public. For those of you who are looking for a more relaxing holiday, the country walks and local markets provide an excellent platform to soak up the atmosphere and sample some of the local produce. From families with children to couples looking for a peaceful retreat this area can offer a wide range of holiday experiences from evening open air theatres to go carting and bowling.

Other Activities: canoeing, golf, horse riding, wine tours, buzzing restaurants, star gazing, bird watching etc

Bordeaux is 90 minutes away and the Arcachon Basin, just south of Bordeaux provides a great location for costal activities with long sandy beaches stretching down to Biarritz

Ideal base for house hunters, good for children.
We stayed in both the two bed gite and the studio while house -hunting in the area. It was good to sit by the pool at the end of the day and enjoy the silence. The accommodation is simple and fine for us. If you are looking for a holiday, this is best suited to families as it is quite large and apparently very busy in high season with a large shared pool. Children would have plenty of playmates! I understand large groups also rent the whole complex, and this would also be good as the gîtes are all together, bar the main house (which also has its own pool) The owners work incredibly hard and remedy every little problem immediately. They are a lovely couple and have given us lots of help and after 18 years in the area, are a great source of local knowledge and advice.

Beautiful area, good base for families with children.
Owners didn't turn up to check us in and didn't arrange for anybody else to welcome us either. It was only when the gas ran out mid week and I phoned them that we found out they were in the UK. No problem with them going away but they should have communicated that to us prior to arrival and arranged for a local contact should a problem arise, which it did. Disappointing service. Le Chai cottage is fine but beware, it is located at the back of the buildings and does not face the pool - perhaps if the terrace had a few pots of geraniums it would feel more cheerful. Facilities for families are good and lots to keep children entertained. Lovely area, great bastide towns nearby to explore.

Afslappende
Rigtig fin bolig med adgang til dejlig pool med masser af liggestole og parasoller. Boligen var dejlig kølig trods det var 35 grader uden for. Dejlig overdækket terrasse. Rigtig fin bolig til en afslappende ferie.

Absolutely amazing stay at Le Roudier. Best family holiday we've had so far!
Le Roudier is the most beautiful hidden gem. We have been there twice now with our family of 4, Mum, Dad, boy 10, girl 2. The owners of Le Roudier, Paul and Dearbhla Smith are the most wonderful people, so welcoming and obliging! Their children Kristian and Teagan are also very friendly and made our kids feel at home. The whole complex is so charming, rustic and scenic. We loved how it was so safe for our children and how they could roam and explore! Our daughter especially loved the cows in the next field every evening! I can not recommend this place more. We come from a busy town in Dublin with everything on our doorstep and it's so refreshing to get away from it all, where our kids almost go back in time, and enjoy the simple life! The pool is fabulous and we loved spending time with the children there. We had lovely cosy barbeques in the evenings and alternated between staying at the gite and going into the little town of Eymet for a delicious dinner at the Pizzeria. Another lovely evening was at the night market and we also were very lucky to experience the breathtaking fireworks on Bastille Day! We are already planning our trip back to Le Roudier next summer!!!

Wonderful family experience
My partner and I and our 2 children had an absolutely fantastic stay at Le Roudier. We stayed for 2 weeks and it was just brilliant. My partner and I loved the fact that it was such a quiet relaxing place and the kids loved the pool. It's wonderful how safe the area is and the chilled out country feel was just what we needed! Our hosts Dearbhla and Paul couldn't have been more welcoming. All in all, it was a great experience and we will be going back next year without a doubt!

Great place in the beautiful Dordogne area
Le Roudier is located in the beautiful Dordogne, surrounded by sunflower fields and countless stars by night. We stayed in the gîte Le Chai, which is a cosy accomodation with everything you need. Very friendly owners and beautiful view from the refreshing pool over the fields. We very much enjoyed our stay here.

Outstanding As Always
This is the second time we have stayed here, unfortunately only for one week this year as we were too late booking due to work. This year we brought our dog which was an added bonus. The gites are comfortable and clean, the welcome as always was inviting. Paul & Dearbhla are the prefect hosts. You know you have had a good holiday when you really do not want to leave. Our children as always enjoyed the facilities and caught up with old friends (Kristian) and made new ones and we felt that they could wander around the grounds in safety and explore. Our holiday was made even more outstanding when Paul & Dearbhla invited us to join them and their friends on a canoeing day trip, followed by a great BBQ. The trouble with recommending a great complex is that you know next year you have to book early to avoid disappointment. On the logistics side, Eymet is about 10 minutes drive away, Begerac about 20 minutes. We noticed that all the other guests were repeat bookings, that say a lot.

Lovely rural setting near Bergerac.
Lovely rural setting near Bergerac. Great pool area with pretty views. Description was accurate. Property well equipped. Only comment would be that the sofa needs replacing. Owners very hospitable. Would certainly consider another stay and recommend the property to others.
