About this property

6* Unique & Beautiful Country Cottage

Bridge Cottage is a 3 bedroom traditional Northumbrian stone cottage, accommodating 6 guests. The cottage is hidden away near the tranquil Northumbrian village of Ellingham, yet just 2 minutes from the A1.

Located a short drive from the famous Bamburgh, Alnwick and Lindisfarne castles and Scottish Borders, Bridge Cottage makes for an excellent position to explore Northumberland.

Renovated from top to bottom in 2019, the cottage offers luxurious furnishings and is equipped to a very high standard.

Bookings run from Saturday - Saturday.

Designed by Cathy Dean and her team in 2019, Bridge Cottage is uniquely decorated and full of modern statements. The vaulted ceilings, bespoke joinery and contemporary colour scheme combine to create a striking interior.

The large open plan kitchen/dining room complete with underfloor heating creates an inviting social space. Combined with the panoramic rural and sea views, you're assured to disconnect from everyday life.

Parking for 3 cars is available on the spacious private drive including an electric charging point. Plentiful outdoor lighting provides a welcoming and easy entrance into the property at night.

The generous sized rooms provide a sense of luxury and a place for everyone to find privacy when needed, be it the open kitchen/dining area, gorgeous living room or garden.

All modern home comforts are provided for including fibre WiFi at 80Mbps, Egyptian cotton towels, washer/dryer, fully equipped kitchen, smart TV and SONOS.

Sitting on the edge of Ellingham Estate, wildlife including deer and pheasants are seen regularly.

The dining room sliding doors open onto the south-facing elevated patio, blending indoor and outdoor living space. Enjoy a BBQ overlooking the stream and tiered garden which teems with colour and mimics scenes from 'The Secret Garden'.

The garden is the dream hide-and-seek location for kids where they can spend hours of unforgettable fun.

New Year in Northumberland
What a beautiful cottage. Very well placed via a short drive for lovely walks on the beach. Recommend the Landing at Beadnell for a glass is something after the beach.

Our holiday
This beautiful cottage was the perfect base for our family visit to Northumberland. It’s full of character, but with very modern touches. Our favourite room was probably the large open kitchen-dining room which leads out onto the raised patio. At night the cosy lounge and log burner was a big hit with us all either watching tv or playing games. It was all spotlessly clean and had everything we expected and more. The cottage is easily accessible from the A1, but it’s location is perfect, so quiet and peaceful. The garden is beautiful and the sound of the stream at its’ end was very relaxing. We loved the local ‘Pack Horse Inn’ which is walkable (great food and friendly locals). If you like ‘peaceful-rural’ within easy reach of amenities, this is perfect for you.

Idyllic cottage in Alnwick area
The cottage and garden was charming and exceptionally clean. All amenities were as advertised - and the beds were super comfortable. Decor was industrial chic and stunning. I would only mention steps down into the bathrooms may be something to consider for anyone with limited mobility. The location was very rural and quiet which was what we wanted - and yet very accessible to the A1. The back porch was a joy to sit on early and late in the day to watch the birds and the hares in the meadow behind the house. The location is perfect for visiting Alnwick, Seahouses and Bamburgh and beyond. Host provided good info but nite two different post codes were noted in the email we received. The cottage is actually closer to Newham and Ellingham - we found it on our second try without having to contact the host. Overall five stars and a terrific base for both relaxing and exploring!

Peace and tranquility in the Northumbrian countryside
The thing we loved so much about Bridge Cottage was that contrast of a gorgeous, contemporary space right in the heart of the idyllic Northumbrian countryside. The joy was being able to spend days on the huge, wild beaches or up to the Cheviots to go wild swimming and then return to the luxury of the cottage to cook in the beautiful open plan kitchen. Other days we simply hung out on the balcony with the views south across the fields or just lounged on huge sofas in the living room. Perfect!

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location with easy access to a plethora of beautiful sandy beaches, but away from the crowds. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped and the modern decor lovely. We especially loved the patio and garden grounds and the outlook from the cottage. Would definitely stay again !

Interesting house with lovely view
Really enjoyed our week at this property, our group consisted of my parents, us our kids and 11 and 9 and our dog. It’s only 15 mins from alnwick or the beach, lovely walk across the fields or road to the park at ellingham and pub. Description is accurate for the garden, it’s not suitable for little kids and our dog has no self control if it sees a rabbit so we couldn’t let her in there on her own as she’s small she can easily escape! Wasn’t a problem for us though. Really clean house and beautifully decorated

Superb country cottage
The cottage was clean, well kept and perfectly situated for a wonderful holiday in Northumberland. My family and I throughly enjoyed every moment at this property, and James was a fantastic host getting back to any questions very quickly and in detail. I would recommend anyone looking for a country stay to look no further!

A fabulous place to stay
We had a great stay at this property. The property itself was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the special touches of the welcome basket and the kids loved having an Alexa! The cottage is fantastically located for country walks, visits to the wonderful Northumbrian coastline and beaches, historical points of interest, castles and some great pubs and restaurants. We have had a wonderful holiday and the weather has been great too which has been an added bonus! It was our first visit to Northumberland and we are definitely hoping to return and would love to come back to this cottage too.

Stunning cottage in beautiful location
We've stayed in lots of holiday homes, both in the UK and abroad, and Bridge Cottage has to be one of the most impressive. It's beautifully decorated throughout and has probably the best-equipped kitchen we've ever come across (although have to confess, we didn't use it very much!). Chathill is an ideal location for all the local attractions and we visited Craster, Dunstanborough, Bamburgh, Alnwick, Alnmouth and Lindisfarne, which were all within an easy drive away. The Packhorse Inn at Ellingham is a short walk from the cottage, and we had a great Sunday lunch there. Would also recommend the fish and chips from Lewis's in Seahouses and Bistro 23 in Alnmouth. James was the perfect host, who left us to our own devices but immediately came to the rescue when I realised I'd forgotten my contact lenses. Would love to visit again in the summer. Thank you!

Wonderful property, very peaceful location
This is a contemporary property equipped to a very high standard. The location is extremely peaceful but within walking distance to the nearest pub and a short driving distance to Bamburgh, Seahouses etc. It's a wonderful spot just to relax and unwind. The balcony terrace and garden are a real bonus. Overall excellent.

Fabulous cottage and great location!
Lovely week exploring the Northumberland coast, the cottage is in a perfect location not far off A1 and within a short drive of Alnwick, Bambrugh, Lindesfarne and many other locations. The cottage was in a peaceful location with a little babbling brook at the bottom of the garden, hi spec, super clean, immaculate and exactly as shown in the photos. The views from the balcony across the fields were lovely too. I didn’t realise but the cottage is all one one level and next door is another similar cottage, perfect together if you are a couple of families or larger group. Nice touches like handsoap, bin liners, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets, Shampoo and Conditioner and toilet rolls were appreciated. They even provided a bed, towel and bowls for our little dog! Within walking distance was a nice pub (Packhorse Inn) in Ellingham. The owner/manager was very responsive and helpful. Would definitely stay again next time we visit Northumberland.

Fabulous cottage close to the coast and national park
The cottage is beautifully decorated and immaculate. It has everything you need and more. We loved sitting in the kitchen looking across to the fields where there were pheasants and deer each evening. We had a fantastic 2 weeks exploring the coastline and all it’s castles (Bamburgh is just 10 mins away) as well as hiking through the Cheviot hills. We’d definitely recommend this as a base for exploring Northumberland. Thank you James for creating such a fantastic place!

Gorgeous property in perfect location - highly recommended
This fantastic property is stunning to look at and incredibly well-appointed. Little touches like laundry tablets, plenty of dishwasher tablets, hand soap in each bathroom, all help to make you feel right at home from the outset. And being set just 2 miles off the A1, but in a tiny hamlet, the location is wonderful for exploring the area. 15 minutes from beaches, no more than 15 miles from many sites; more than enough to fill our week's stay. The landlord was super-helpful in the run-up to our stay, giving us tips of local eateries and keeping us abreast of the latest in rules for holiday lets in terms of the current pandemic (Aug 2020). Highly recommended and absolutely hope to return!
