About this property

Quaint Remodeled Cabin on Beautiful Au Train Lake

Enjoy a relaxing stay at a quaint remodeled cabin on AuTrain Lake. This cabin is a wonderful getaway for a couple or families with young children. The floor has a slight tilt which could be a problem for elderly. Each day at this cabin will offer a variety of ways to relax or any number of recreational options. This cabin is a weekly rental from Saturday to Saturday.

Two bedrooms are available with full size beds in each and a fun loft with 2 twin beds. An indoor stone fireplace is available along with an outdoor fire pit for those evening bonfires. All the appliances are new and a fully outfitted kitchen is available. Sip your coffee at the kitchen countertop made from a giant white pine or on the comfortable lawn furniture in front of the lake.

Au Train Lake has a sandy bottom for swimming, tubing, waterskiing and boating. You can swim right in front of the cabin or take a one minute kayak to a sandbar for another swimming option that we named “ the cove”. A dock is available about 30 feet from the cabin door and also available is a fun foam swimming raft for kids and the whole family to enjoy.

Fishing has been a big hit with catches of walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Four river kayaks are available for rental. Kayak in the Lake or take a float down the nearby Au Train River with its beautiful landscape of plants and wildlife to see like waterfowl, turtles and lily pads. Black Ducks, and Eagles are seen seasonally at the cabin along with meteor showers and fireflies. Fall asleep to the croaking of frogs and if you’re lucky you might wake up to the soothing sound of loons in the morning.

The AuTrain River outlet is a five minute kayak from the cabin. Canoe or kayak from the cabin down the Au Train River to one of several access points or the more adventurous could paddle all the way to Lake Superior. Lake Superior is 3 miles by road from the cabin along with Au Train's famous swimming area where the Au Train River dumps into Lake Superior. Many waterfalls are nearby along with the beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising. This cabin offers relaxation or lots of activity options for each family member to enjoy.

We didn't anticipate the floors to be so uneven or the stickiness of the bar. We loved the location, the outdoor space and that bedding and towels were provided. The building and room doors didnt shut properly we believe due to the unevenness of the floor. Also, we couldn't run both the microwave and coffee pot at the same time or the breaker would trip. The TV was smaller than expected. The dock would benefit from some attention. Everything else was great!

Great Vacation!!
Loved our stay. It was so peaceful and quiet on the lake and the cottage was so close to Lake Superior (5 minute drive). The cottage was cuter than the pictures showed…I would definitely stay here again!!

We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful week! The cabin was so charming and clean! Fit our family perfectly! We enjoyed kayaking the lake and River- fished- had camp fires, and so much more! So close to the picture rocks national lakeshore and all the beautiful hiking, light houses, and waterfalls it has to offer! We would love to go back someday!

Perfect cabin getaway!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cabin was cozy and neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful. The location and close proximity to Pictured Rocks were great and we loved watching the sun set over the lake each night. Communication with the host was great and the cabin was tidy! Would definitely recommend or stay there again if we’re ever in the area!

Great location on the lake!
This property was perfect for my family. The location was perfect for keeping my boat on the dock right outside the cabin. I never had to worry about rough water or winds damaging my boat. The location is tucked into a bay on the Northeast side of the lake. Right next to the mouth of the river, perfect for access by kayak.

Fourth of July
The cabin is exactly as advertised - cozy, on a lovely lake, very close to an excellent beach on Lake Superior. The floor is slightly tilted. Given the location, I would suggest traveling when it is not bug season.

Wonderful location!
This cabin is in a very quiet and calm section of Au Train Lake. We used our rented kayaks daily to explore Au Train Lake and river. Our 10 year old son enjoyed swimming in the lake which was shallow for a pretty good distance. Because one side of the foundation is sinking, the cabin does slant to one side. It took some time to get used to it but added to the charm of the place. We had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

Good location for U.P.
A good cabin nearby many different spots in the Munising / Marquette area. The lake is right there and is quite easy to launch a kayak. Anne was super responsive and made things simple. Would rent again.

Great place to stay
We had an awesome time staying at the property! It was extremely clean and the size was perfect for our needs. Location was also a plus as we traveled out to see different parks, waterfalls and other sites. Munising was a short drive for Pictured Rocks tours and great eats. Would recommend this location to others!

Cozy Cabin
This cabin was clean and comfortable. The boat dock was nice to have on site so we didn’t have to trailer our boat back & forth. We enjoyed the campfires and spectacular sunsets! Close to pictured rocks and not to far to Grand Marias for rock hounding.

Most beautiful view on Au Train Lake
Cabin has everything you need for a cozy stay. Kitchen and bathroom has everything you need. Any kids you have would enjoy sleeping in the loft. Very private, as you are at the end of Perry Road. We used the outside fire pit three times. Someone a little further south does do some duck hunting at sunrise, which serves as an automatic alarm clock so you need to be ready for that.

Fun getaway
The cottage, lake, and location not far from Lake Superior, Munising, Pictured Rocks, and Marquette make this a great place to stay for both exploration and relaxing. Caught a sunfish pretty quickly on the first night from the dock. The wood fireplace was nice to enjoy when it was too rainy for a bonfire outside. No cell reception which I enjoy, but had to go into town to check the weather forecast. Maybe bring a small radio.

Quiet & Cozy
Had a great week at the cabin! Perfect size for 4 adults & 2 11-year-olds. Kids slept in the loft and couples in bedrooms. Adult beds were passable, but not great. Potential for improvement there. Wasn't great seating for six in the living room, but we rotated between the 2 cushy loveseat spots, the 2 comfy wicker rockers, and 2 kitchen chairs. We rented the four kayaks, and enjoyed using those to explore the lake. We caught some small but edible size perch right in front of the cabin, in the 18" of water that extends way out past the reeds. The kids had a blast wallowing around and playing on the big float-mat that was provided. Each bedroom and the loft has a small fan, and the living room & kitchen each have smooth running ceiling fans. All were used extensively, as it got a little warm some of the days and nights. I personally did not miss having A/C, but a couple of people in my party did. Not a "complaint," as it is exactly as advertised. The fans were enough for me. No wi-fi and poor cell signal was a negative for us all, but might not be for some. (We found our Verizon phones could get two bars - which was enough - by standing in certain, specific areas of the cabin or driveway.) Similarly, there's no TV signal, antenna or otherwise. Improving both of these areas by adding wi-fi is something we all agreed would be appreciated. And while we did enjoy a few of the DVD's, expanding that selection would also be worthwhile. The cabin has a bit of a lean in the kitchen/dining area. To the point that some of the cabinets do not close properly. Not drastic by any means, and more of a curiosity to us. But for those who lack good balance, some elderly folks, etc, it should be a concern. Bring bottled water if you aren't used to the taste of iron. But for showering, brushing teeth, etc., it's wasn't noticeable. Sunsets were amazing, but having a western facing lake-view is a net negative for us. Too much sun in the hours before the sunset! Had this at a previous VRBO, but forgot to check for it this time. A deal-breaker for us, really. Just much prefer a lake-view going any other direction. Anne was a great host and communicator! The cabin, linens, kitchen, bath - everything was spotless, nicely decorated, and well stocked! Exactly as advertised on every count. Kudos for that, which is the most important stuff to me. This is probably a "one-and-done" for us, but only because of our specific personal preferences. On the whole, I recommend it! -Rick

Perfect location
We had a wonderful week at this cottage. Quiet spot on the lake. The cottage is small but our family of four, including 2 teenagers plus our dog had plenty of room inside. The kayaks are definitely worth getting whether exploring the lake or going along the river which is accessed very close to the cottage. A 5 minute drive gets you to a beautiful beach on Lake Superior. Short drive to Marquette and Munising. Would definitely stay here again!

Lovely view and relaxing spot
This little cabin is the perfect getaway. The view out the window was serene and gorgeous. The dock located at the property was private so we were able to dock our kayaks and go fishing easily every evening. The cabin itself is well equipped and was spotless. The beds are comfortable as well. I would recommend if you’re looking to get off the grid and have great proximity to all of the best UP experiences.
