Great Stay!
Great experience with family. Hal and Gay great innkeepers. Just know that if you stay in main lodge that pool is shared with guests in small cottage on property.

Storm King Lodge
Bedrooms very comfortable, and the huge common space and large veranda both great for meals, games and gathering. The place is full of interesting books, including a great deal of information on the area and what it has to offer. Pool shared with other guest house was very pleasant. Kitchen was small and Spartan , but everything we needed was there. Our hosts were nearby if we needed help with anything and had a lot to offer in terms of taking best advantage of the area.

Very nice country setting but close to the grocery/shopping you need. Stayed with family to attend an Army football game and weekend.... close to West Point as well. Owner very informative and eager to ensure your stay goes well.

Great Time at The Lodge
Rented out the Lodge for 2 nights for a group of 6. Had an awesome time. The lodge is rustic & beautiful, with each room having it's own unique atmosphere. The main room is huge & full of art & oddities we all enjoyed exploring. There's even a piano! The gardens are beautiful & full of wildlife. We had access to the pool which was a great relief after a hot day at Storm King. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but we were able to manage. Do it to it!

About the host

Hosted by Hal and Gay Janks

Host profile image
Hal grew up in suburban Chicago; graduated from Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY with a Bachelor's degree in Performance and Music Education; Bass Trombonist in USMA Band at West Point; participated in Summer Fellowship Festival at Tanglewood; Graduated with Master's Degree in Performance from New England Conservatory of Music; Freelance Bass Trombonist with Boston Pops and the BSO; Bass Trombonist NY Metropolitan Opera Orchestra 1977-2006; Trombone Professor and Ensemble Conductor at Manhattan School of Music, Rutger's University and SUNY Purchase. Retired from The MET 2006.
Gay grew up in Monroe, NY; graduated from OCCC, and Western State College of Colorado, taught French and English 30 years; had 3 beautiful kids with Hal; attended Fairleigh Dickenson Univerisity Graduate School of Education; travelled extensively throughout Europe; Opened Storm King Lodge with Hal 1998.

Why they chose this property

Hal and Gay lived in Mountainville when they first married in 1968. Upon leaving the West Point Band in 1970 they moved to Boston where Hal studied and Gay taught French, and had 2 boys, Chris & Cary. They returned to the NYC Metropolitan area in 1978. They had their careers there - Hal at the MET Opera and Gay teaching French in Allendale, NJ (and a baby girl, Cate !) . After having travelled extensively in Europe, and staying in many French country "Gites", Hal & Gay decided to return to Mountainville, buy this circa 1800 converted barn/guest house, specifically to open a B&B. Needless to say, it has been an incredibly interesting and fun adventure; one where we meet wonderful people from all over the world. We could write a book!

What makes this property unique

We watch sunrises, sunsets, lots of stars, and always a wonderful variety of wildlife and birds.
We love where we live!
