Great stay in Branscombe

We had a lovely February break here. The cottage was lovely. Clean and well equipped. The log burner ensured the front room was cosy. Branscombe is well placed for coastal walks and day trips. Lovely, friendly owners too who were happy to be contacted.

Beautiful, well-equipped cottage in idyllic location

We had a wonderful stay in Branscombe at Richard’s cottage. The cottage itself is beautiful and extremely well-equipped. The kitchen includes everything you need during your stay and there’s also a fabulous BBQ which we enjoyed using. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds comfortable. We found the cottage to be spacious and perfect for our family of 5 (with three children all under 9), especially because there were 2 bathrooms and a tumble drier - all rather essential but not always present in holiday cottages! Branscombe is a great village. The cottage is on a beautiful, picturesque street (With it’s own private parking) and is walking distance to a fabulous playground which our children loved and two local pubs. We ate at the Mason’s Arms and had a great experience there. Branscombe (pebble) beach is beautiful and not far away. We really recommend the walk over the cliffs from the beach to Beer, a beautiful local fishing village with lots of amenities should you need them. Richard was great to deal with also. We spoke before our stay to go through everything and he responded quickly to questions via text/email when they cropped up. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this wonderful cottage! Thank you for our week there!

Great location for the coastal path

We had a fabulous week in Branscombe, thank you Richard. We found this cottage to be a great base for our walks and trips around the area. It is a very short walk to a footpath that joins the coastal path. We saw deer and pheasants in the field opposite and could hear lambs on the hill behind the cottage in the mornings. The kitchen is sunny, spacious and well equipped. The fireplace has a big double log burner, which we made good use of, as we had some very cold nights and the electric wifi heaters upstairs were not working (with no instructions). There was an issue with the back legs on one of the armchairs, which I have pointed out to Richard as well as no back door key, which would have been useful when returning with wet coats or muddy boots. But forgetting that, we had a fantastic stay at this cottage and we were very sad to leave.

Perfect countryside cottage

Our stay in Branscombe was idyllic... we really felt a sense of authenticity and history in the home, the cottage is tidy and clean, but not plastic. There are many thoughtful touches to ensure you have everything you need. Richard was extremely accommodating from the minute we inquired about this property, and during our stay communication-when we needed was always prompt and insightful. We had a long stay, over a month, and certainly hope to return!

Great place to stay

Perfect location for walks and relaxation. Good pubs and local transport. Cottage ideal for what we wanted, just be careful with the stairs. Would recommend to friends and family.

Everything you could wish for

We stayed at 1 Chapel Row for six nights and were very impressed. The cottage was clean and roomy. Lots of drawer and hanging space in the bedroom and the bed was comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and the shower was reliable. Just a short walk to the Fountain Head or a longer stroll down to the Mason’s Arms, if you fancy eating out. It was nice to sit in the garden in the evening with a G&T and a few nibbles. A very enjoyable break away from it all. Our whole experience from booking to checking out was perfect.

Lovely old cottage in a quiet location

This is a lovely old cottage in a quiet location at the top of the village of Bramscombe. There is a good local pub ‘the fountain head’ within 50 yards but the rest of the village (playground, 2nd pub ‘the mason arms’ & forge) and beach is a approximately 2km down hill walk. There is a lovely path from the village to the beach, great for a morning run. The house it’s self is an old property and with that comes cobwebs etc but it is homely and has everything you need. The owners were great with communication prior to arrival and ensured we had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable only thing for a long stay ( we were there two weeks) could do with more hangers :-)

Relaxed country hideaway

We had a very relaxing break in the property, which is well placed for access to the sea (along the main road and / or the coastal path) and within walking distance of 2 basic but really nice pubs (good food and beer). The property is well equipped and benefits from a large lounge and master bedroom and 2 other well equipped bedrooms. The village of Branscombe is relatively quiet, but is near enough to decent shops at Sidmouth and to larger centres including Lyme Regis and Exeter. The host was extremely helpful and responsive and he was keen to emphasise that he was happy to leave us to enjoy the property and a really relaxing break.

We're a family of five with teenage children.

We've loved this area of Devon for many years and our children have loved the beaches, ice creams and fossil hunting in the area over many happy holidays. As they've grown up; paddle boarding and kayaking is our latest craze. We love the quiet, rural escape of the cottage and hope others families will enjoy holidaying in Chapel Row.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with Chapel Row's character and location and love the pretty little garden.

What makes this property unique

Two great pubs within walking distance and the uniqueness of being in a National Trust village with old traditions that can still be seen today (e.g. the forgery, the mill, the tearooms) and the picturesque walks to the beach.
