Whitecaps Retreat is a vacation home that offers peaceful seclusion with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. This hidden gem is nestled within a mature hardwood forest which was once cultivated as farmland. Walking the property you will see historical remnants of stonewalls and deer grazing in the old apple orchard overlooking Creaser’s Cove. The landscape, seascape and wildlife offer an exquisite sensory experience; a perfect spot if you are looking to get away from it all. Cherish the stillness while sipping your morning coffee. Take in the majestic scenery where the Atlantic Ocean meets the LaHave River. Savour spectacular sunsets over the LaHave Islands from the south-west facing patio. Curl up with a good book or plug in your favourite playlist; enjoy your vacation! Whitecaps Retreat is located 350 ft from each of its sister cottages, Whitecaps Summit and Whitecaps Cabana - far enough to have privacy, but close enough for three groups wanting to rent 3 cottages. We absolutely loved staying at this beautiful property. Everything was meticulously kept, with all the amenities that we needed. Our hosts left plenty of instructions for everything in and around the property. Recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area l
We stayed at Whitecaps for a week in August. We stayed at the Beach House while other family members stayed at the Summit House up the hill. The Beach House was excellent - clean, well equipped, great kitchen/bathrooms/bedrooms and wonderful views of the bay. We loved sitting on the expansive deck in the afternoon sun. We enjoyed a lobster boil, bonfire, walks with the dog on the beach. The occasional fog and swells from an offshore hurricane added to the whole maritime experience!
Our family of 10 had a wonderful week. The house is very comfortable and has everything one would need. The beach is lovely and safe for the children who spent many joyful hours swimming and playing in the sand.
Highly recommend as a vacation retreat.
The perfect place to simply rest, cook, play on the local beach, collect rocks, birdwatch; or go on an adventure, and explore the multitude of treasured quaint places in the vicinity. Squeaky clean with everything you need, set in a spectacular corner of this marvellous province. We loved everything.
This property is amazing! We were very impressed with the attention to detail. The little extras make a big difference; beach chairs, extra towels, fully stocked kitchen etc. The views are incredible, the beach very secluded. We enjoyed watching the seals and porpoises each morning sitting on the deck with our coffee. The town of Lunenburg was a treasure. The artist community is thriving and we were all able to find unique pieces to bring home. Gaff point hike and Hirtle beach was a short drive and perfect activity for a hazy, drizzly day. The general store has an amazing breakfast and any items you may need. We enjoyed the time together in a quiet, peaceful setting.

A Cherished Chapter: Our Second Stay and the Promise of More
Like a favorite book we couldn't resist revisiting, this enchanting getaway called us back for an encore. And just as a beloved story reveals new details with each read, our second stay unveiled fresh charms we'd missed before. Now, with two chapters of memories etched in our hearts, we're already daydreaming about the next installment in our vacation saga. This isn't just a rental; it's become our home-away-from-home, a place where our story continues to unfold. We'll be back, eager to write the next page in our ongoing adventure at this magical retreat.
The Whitecaps Retreat Beach House is spectacular! Beautiful, sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, direct beach access, well-appointed and very comfortable home with everything you need and more. We so enjoyed watching sunsets on the deck, sailboats gliding by and birds swooping down. We loved walking the beach at low tide and exploring the area around Lower LaHave, Rose Bay, Riverport and beyond. Other beaches are nearby but we found the one near the house to be the best as it was secluded and extensive.
Would only highlight - as the listing says - that the stairs to the beach are steep with a rocky drop-off so if you have anyone in your party with mobility or balance issues, or who needs a little extra assistance, be prepared with a walking stick - we eventually found a piece of driftwood on the beach that worked well for my 78-year-old father but it would have been nice to have had this with us from the get-go.
Overall, this was an excellent, wonderful, spectacular stay. The hosts are very responsive to anything you need. We'd be happy to return again!
A few of my best friends joined me to celebrate my 50th birthday. The property was perfect for gathering on the deck, in the living room and around the large dining table. It was a great time!
We really enjoyed our stay. It is a beautiful house and the location is just perfect. The host was very prompt in answering any question that we had and was very accommodating when there was an emergency. I will highly recommend this place to everyone.
There were a couple of things that I did not like. First, the listing said breakfast was included, but there was nothing, not even basic condiments. Second, the bathroom water had a weird smell, and there was no soap or body wash in the shower.
Other than that, we had a great time in this house. Thank you for letting us stay at your place.
We had an incredible time at Whitecaps Retreat! The house is very cosy and spaceous with all the things you need and more to have a great stay. The surrounding is very quiet and the view above the bay is just awesome! The communication with Jacqui and Andy was easy and very kind. We can fully recommend this wonderful place and hope to come back soon!
We (3 older couples) stayed for a week and enjoyed the views immensely. We had several day trips in the area which were convenient. The kitchen and dining areas were well setup and we were able to prepare and enjoy many meals together. The bedrooms are well separated that noise doesn’t carry. Beds are very comfortable. The scallops bought from Adams and Knickle in Lunenburg made more than one fabulous meal to have at the house. Also LaHave Bakery had black bean brownies to die for.
The surrounding beauty and tranquillity provided by the Whitecaps Beach Retreat is just what we all desperately needed. The cottage once again provided us with a wonderful “home away from home” where we could truly relax, laugh and leave all of our worries and stress behind. Just being able to simply sit and take pleasure in both the view and sound of the water brought a sense of peace to us all. A couple of friends also discovered a lovely little beach area, when the tide was out, where they could sink their feet in the sand, sit in the warm sunshine and enjoy a good book. Needless to say we were all wishing we could have stayed longer when our checkout time arrived.
PS. The visits from the deer and porcupines certainly added some unexpected excitement and laughs to our stay!
Two families stayed in this well appointments home away from home. We had all the creature comforts we could ask for - fire pit, grill; washer/dryer, soaking tub, outstanding deck and a short walk to the ocean.
My extended family rented all 3 cottages on the property and had a lovely family reunion. All cottages are fully stocked , with great out door space and a 5 minute walk apart so it worked perfectly for being together for meals but space apart when we wanted. Lahave is a charming location with a fun ferry ride close by to the bakery and Hirtle’s Beach a quick 15 minute drive from the cottages. Our only challenge were the evening mosquitoes but bug spray and a great screen porch in one of the cottages helped immensely. This is our second stay so we would certainly recommend it to all who are considering it!
We had an incredible stay at this AMAZING location! This home away from home provided us with breathtaking views and tranquil rest to truly re-charge. Our family highly recommends!!
Incredible stay and perfect accommodations. The split home set up allowed my in laws to have their own space/home on one side of the house while my wife and I and our “busy kids”occupied the other side. The view was remarkable from just about every spot on the property. We were greeted by seals playing in the water on many occasions and even had a seagull drop a live crab on the beach for us to inspect! This was our young children’s first trip out of the States and Jacqui and Andy’s cottage was PERFECT. It is difficult to find accommodations that are for EVERYONE while also providing the wow factor of location location location. We are travel snobs….and Whitecaps cottage is EVERYTHING it says that it is! We hope to return when our kids are a bit older to experience even more of the magic of Lower Lahave and Nova Scotia! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! 5 stars from our circus of 4 from Richmond Hill, GA!
Magical views, so much to do…regardless of the weather
Exceptionally well appointed and designed to host more than one family. The power of a great place is that it shines regardless of the weather. Forest fires, cold torrential rain and power outage and we had a fantastic time!!! We enjoyed the view and the blankets on the deck sipping wine and watching the neighborhood bald eagle dive for fish while warding off an angry pack of terns swooping like StarWars fighters. Sipping coffee and watching cormorants get their breakfast. Power outage was a fantastic opportunity to be local and have breakfast in town at Fancy Pants. The collaborative main space with a kitchen with everything you could need to create a gourmet meal was optimal for creating memories woth 8 people at the table. Oh! And the beds and linens were lovely…especially choices in pillow density. Devils In the Details and Jacqui and. Andy seem to have thought of everything. We even staged a photo by the amazing Firepit we hope to return to use! Five star all the way. Thank you for your hospitality.
