About this property

Michelangelo Villa Salt Water Pool, Spectacular Scenery, Mountain View

Beautiful Tuscan villa in Tuscany Villa Resort at Caprese Michelelangelo with breathtaking views perfect for couples.
Right in the heart of Tuscany overlooking the castle & village of Caprese Michelangelo and is set in 100 acres of the most beautiful mountain forests.
The relaxing, salt water pool complete with Roman steps, sits in a peaceful olive grove with a spectacular view through the mountains to the fairytale-esque Castle of Michelangelo.

The tranquil position, frequently described as 'paradise on earth' contains an abundance of wildlife where the birds sing at night and the fireflies provide a moving display of sparkling light.
In years gone by, the villa was owned by the Vatican and was used to house monks from the monastery. Ideal for walking and cycling, the area is home to many fine restaurants, with truffles and mushrooms being a local specialty, and good Tuscan wines. The mountains and forests have inspired the three greatest artists of the Renaissance and remain largely unspoiled today. This is where the great artist Michelangelo was born and lived. The little chapel where he was baptised is in the village and a museum dedicated to him is within the Castle of Michelangelo. Nearby at La Verna is the Franciscan monastery retreat where St Francis of Assisi is said to have received the stigmata. Rich in Renaissance history are the local towns of Sansepolcro, Cortona and the medieval walled town of Anghiari. It is ideal for walking and cycling in particular.
There is so much to see & do as well as time to relax by the salt water pool which is heated by solar panels.
The area has many great restaurants and because we are not close to the city the prices are very low.
Anghiari, a wonderful medieval walled town is nearby.
In Caprese Michelangelo you will find the castle and birthplace of the legendary artist Michelangelo to visit as well as restaurants and bars serving great food.
Enjoy an authentic Italian experience at the local olive oil mill. The mill dates back to 1421 and is still in use to this day.
This wonderful experience of visiting an oil mill is fantastic. First you will have a little tour of the mill and then you go to the family residence where you will enjoy a fresh and delicious meal complete with wine made from the grapes from their own vineyard in the courtyard. This is preceded by an opportunity to taste the many variations of their own oils on fresh bread. Particularly remarked upon, are the fennel, lemon, black and white truffle and basil flavoured oils.
Located in a picturesque alpine valley town nearby is the thermal spa which offers guests the perfect setting to relax and unwind. The large pool is separated into indoor and outdoor sections, enabling visitors to take in the breath-taking views or gaze up into the night sky. This beautiful spa also boasts Jacuzzis, waterfalls and a steam cave.
You don’t need to worry about bringing shampoo, hair conditioner or shower gel as we supply all of that. We also supply all the towels including pool towels.
Pool open from May to September.

Quiet Country Paradise
We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day R+R in Tuscany. We were not after the big city tourist attractions, nor crowds, so finding this place worked great. Freyja, our host was so helpful with advice, directions, dinner reservations that we became friends. Her passion is animal rescue and Freyja uses proceeds to support this cause caring for injured or neglected animals. Being more country we found restaurants were open and less cost. We loved sitting by the beautiful swimming pool and the views from our Villa stunning. We highly recommend this gem.

Wonderful and special property
My husband and I recently stayed at this property and I can't tell you how breathtakingly beautiful it is. The views are simply stunning Freya, the hostess, was extremely helpful and friendly. She had great suggestions on places to visit and set us up with a wine tasting in Cortona with her wonderful friend, Gabriella, who has a wine shop there. She also got us reservations and a fabulous table at a local restaurant and arranged for a cab service for us. The location of this property is very special, not only are the views beautiful, but it is a great spot to hub off to various destinations in Tuscany (we drove to Cortona, Siena, Arezzo, Anghiari, Montepulciano, and Cesenatico- all very special places to visit). It is also about an 1 and 45 minute drive from the Florence aiport so it's very convenient. I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting Tuscany and am so thankful to Freya for making this trip extra special for us.

Wonderful experience
We felt the stress of our busy lives ebb away from the moment we arrived, sipping our prosecco and staring out across the olive grove towards the castle where Michelangelo was born. We spent the whole of our week here exploring all the local area has to offer and there is so much. a natural spa, works of art, peaceful walks and superb local restaurants not only offering tremendous food but amazing value for money. I would highly recommend the lunch at olive oil mill and a day out on the coast at Cesenatico and after a day out sightseeing it was truly relaxing to dip in the pool

Fantastic holiday gorgeous surroundings so happy!
Fantastic place to stay - where shall I start - rooms were ready as soon as we arrived although they are not normally ready in Italy till 4pm - well the rooms are fantastic - very big indeed - fully equipped with everything you would need for self catering. Staff were all amazingly friendly , always happy to see you and chatty to the kids. The pool was lovely, really clean, big warm and not too deep as i'm not a great swimmer which was nice. Food -It Was the best food I have ever had! The local restaurants were a 5 min drive and drop dead gorgeous- there was plenty to choose from and I ate more than I needed every day! - we were a party of 8 including my grandparents of 79 and 76 and they ate every day ( like old people we afraid to try some things avoiding truffles ect but they still enjoyed the food. My wife and father in law would have preferred more spicy food but that is down to personal choice. They asked for suggestions for meal times - I suggest perhaps having a joint of meat available ( pork beef ect for a safe option for people less keep on trying new food - as for the rest of the week that's exactly what happened - now you don't get that happen in many places !!! Location - A short drive from the airport very easy to find a tiny airport never got out and through so fast! The drive itself took about 45 mins and was like something from a film with the views that you all dream of when you think Tuscany. Maid service - fabulous - they cleaned our room every day - made beds - mopped floor - fantastic ladies they never stopped it was spotless Finally we have just returned from a mini heat wave - September was supposed to be 25 or 26 degrees - well on wed of last week is was 38 degrees and even as a sun worshiper I couldn't come out from my umbrella - fantastic holiday and we have met some really nice people will 100% come again! Will definitely return very soon - thank you Villa Michelangelo it was a wonderful holiday x x x

A great escape
Myself and my husband stayed in the Michelangelo this year and had a fabulous holiday . The villa was clean , beautifully furnished and well equipped including a large comfortable king size bed. The kitchen was perfect for the two of us do some meals ourselves but we also ate out a lot as the area has so so many fabulousness places to eat ! The views from the villa are breathtaking and it’s an amazing place to wake up and look out from . The pool was very peaceful and idyllic , perfect for some lazy afternoons or morning swims . We had dinner made for us by the hosts on the first night and this was delicious and saved us rushing back out after arriving late . There are so many amazing places to visit in the local area we plan to go back next year with some friends . The hosts were very accommodating and knowledgeable about the local area , definitely do the olive mill tour that was a real highlight ! We had an amazing holiday and can’t wait to go back !

outstanding cant wait to go back
The villa was of unequaled quality and service with a view that is second to none we also opted to eat at the villa a few times the authentic Tuscan cuisine was outstanding i recommend this option you are central to some of the worlds most stunning and historical places imaginable the surreal feeling of standing in places like the castle Michelangelo was born in and the monastery of saint Francis has to be experienced at least once in your life and this is the perfect place to do that theirs not enough space to tell you every thing but its a must you will not regret it .

Lovely property and lots of private space outside to enjoy the fantastic views
Lovely property and lots of private space outside to enjoy the fantastic views. It was a little too early in the season to enjoy the pool but I am sure it is very welcome when the weather improves. Freya and her husband were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome. They gave us lots of great tips where to go and we followed all of them. Many thanks.

A little piece of heaven in the Tuscan hills!
We stayed here three years running and love the scenery, flora & fauna, walking, relaxing and day trips out. The birds sing in the early hours and chatter most of the day. The tapping of woodpeckers or hoot of an owl. We have heard wild boars (but haven’t seen them) and the fireflies in the late spring are mesmerising. It's a place for all seasons with the wild meadow flowers, blossoms and fireflies of the spring, the long hours of daylight and heat of the summer, autumnal colours in the rolling hills and mountains around harvest time, to frost and snow in the winter. Along the perimeter of the property is an ancient footpath used by Saint Francis of Assisi with scenic walks in both directions. The suites are in a well renovated centuries old building. Each has its own character and historic features with sympathetic renovation of the bedroom, ktichen, bathroom, sitting/dining area and terraces. The beds and sofas are very comfortable, and a selection of bedding is provided for year-round use. Bath towels, pool towels, shower gel (etc.) and hairdryer are provided. All the suites overlook the grounds with a Romanesque heated pool, olive groves and undulating meadows leading to a castle flanked by flora clad mountains in the distance. There are woodlands, meadows, olive groves, lawns, attractive flower and herb borders and a large courtyard with pergolas and outdoor furniture to relax on. A little piece of heaven in the Tuscan hills. Nearby are great restaurants and the local produce is superb if you enjoy cooking at the villa. Pieve Santo Stefano is less than 5km for local shopping and larger supermarkets can be found in Sansepulcro, Anghiari and Arezzo. A car is recommended at the villa, which has all of Tuscany and Umbria within striking distance. Next to the villa is the owner's home and private grounds with live-in helpers who maintain the villa and grounds. The hosts and helpers are very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They will offer good advice, book restaurants and venues, order pizzas, call doctors (if necessary) and can arrange specialist tours. Freya will prepare tasty vegetarian or vegan meals on request. She also provides a lovely welcome basket on arrival with a selection of groceries like tea, coffee, biscuits, milk, a bottle of wine, fresh fruit, pasta and luxury items. We highly recommend Villa Michelangelo for a restful break, or great off-the-beaten-path base for a Tuscan adventure! We will be back!

Fabulous holiday
My wife & I booked this holiday six months before our intended stay, we researched locations to visit and asked the hosts for walking routes we could do. The more we discovered the more excited we grew and believe me when I say it exceeded our wildest dreams. We did 4 stunning walks each with breathtaking views we saw wild boar, deer, a porcupine and countless birds of prey. On the days we didn't walk on the hosts' recommendation we visited Cortona where we did wine tasting, we had a day at Cesenatico on the coast and an afternoon tour & taste at an oil mill where we enjoyed a veritable feast accompanied with ample amounts of wine, grappa and good company. All in all an amazing vacation that left us wanting to experience even more.

We loved it
We loved our stay here - Freyja had been extremely helpful and accommodating ahead of our arrival, and this carried through to the very end. The location is simply beautiful - our villa had an amazing view of the hills and across to Caprese Michelangelo. The area is a bit of an undiscovered gem - some amazing places with very little in the way of tourists - but with some iconic sites within reasonable daily travel. We made good use of the pool (excellent size and setting), the hot tub and the swing bench which was in our garden - chatting into the evening against the backdrop of silence other than the crickets... The kitchen was ideal for two - gave us the opportunity to eat out at lunchtimes and then make the most of local produce snacking in the evenings! Both Freyja and Malcolm kept the balance of helpfulness with giving us enough space to enjoy - we took up their suggestions of the olive oil tasting (fab afternoon!), and also the Sunday lunch in a local restaurant Caprese Michelangelo - best meal we had on the trip. Lots to do in the area - possibly too much as we could have easily spent more time enjoying the pool! We loved our stay, and will definitely be back.

A wonderful Place and Fantastic Holiday
We booked the Michelangelo Villa for 8 nights as we wanted to experience Tuscany and this beautiful place did not disappoint. From the welcome on the first day - and yes we did get lost finding it but Freya jumped into a car and came to find us - the villa was just perfect, the views of Caprese Michelangelo and the hills was just breathtaking and instantly we knew this was going to be a fantastic week. Freya and Malcolm are fabulous hosts and go out of their way to ensure you have a great holiday, their knowledge of all the local medieval villages and towns and what to see and do was great. Nothing was a problem, they will book restaurants or advise where to eat if away sight seeing. They will also offer a three course dinner with wine on your day of arrival, lovely touch as this saves you going to find a restaurant the first night, also the welcome basket is the best I have ever seen and certainly was a welcome gesture. The villa we stayed in had a private garden and it was lovely to sit in and off cause the pool was just so welcoming too. At night it was lovely to relax in the courtyard and catch up with everyone over a drink, just perfect. We also did the Olive oil mill tour and tasting and this is organised through Freya who will run you to the mill, this is really good fun and a great afternoon tasting olive oils and wines accompanied with lunch, so I recommend everyone to do this. So summing up a fabulous holiday that went too quick, a beautiful place in a stunning location, made some great friends and once we got back we booked to go back in October. Thank you to you both xx .

The views are straight out of a fantasy. We had a fantastic stay and will be returning. Cheers, Malcolm and Freyja!!

A great place to stay in Tuscany
A great place to stay in a beautiful part of Italy. The view from the balcony of the Michelangelo suite is stunning. The property is peaceful and secluded, with a fire pit and a brand-new Scandinavian hot tub (the wooden, above-ground kind). It helps to hire a car in this region -- the villa is a 30-minute drive from Sansepolcro, Anghiari, and other historic spots. (Sansepolcro has a well-provisioned grocery store as well.) Freyja and Malcolm are superb hosts, with a deep knowledge of local attractions and history; they're also happy to recommend great local restaurants and to make bookings on your behalf.

Wonderful Hosts, Incredible Vistas and All You Could Wish For, We Didn't Want To Leave!
We booked our stay for Birthday/Anniversary celebrations and was everything we could have wished for. Our hosts Freyja and Malcolm were so warm and welcoming, we instantly felt relaxed and at home. They kindly offered us the option of a 3 course meal on arrival and catered for our vegetarian needs, which was greatly appreciated after a long day of travelling and absolutely delicious. We stayed in the Michelangelo Suite, a spacious and comfortable villa equipped with everything required for a relaxing holiday. This also has a wonderful balcony where we enjoyed a glass of Prosecco (or two!) whilst taking in the incredible views of the surrounding Tuscan Hills. Freyja and Malcolm have invaluable knowledge of excellent local restaurants and places of interest to visit and are more than happy to help with any queries or bookings. We can't thank them enough for an unforgettable holiday, our only regret is that we didn't have more time there. Ciao for now.... but we hope to be back.
