About this property

AWARD-WINNING, 5* LUXURY, THE WATER MILL, DERBYSHIRE, SLEEPS 14-16 PERSONS

The Water Mill is a stunning, converted, Grade II property located in Bradbourne, Derbyshire. This unique haven, provides luxurious comfort, a fascinating history and unique touches! The Water Mill is truly the perfect retreat to relax and unwind in during your Peak District adventure! Beautifully located with scenic walks, picnic area by a stream and cycle path connecting it to Carsington and Tissington. The Water Mill is designed to give our guests elegance with comfort and has been recently furnished with a contemporary country-styled ambience. This is the perfect place to unwind after your sight seeing and walks with your family or friends.

The Water Mill has just won GOLD for Self Catering Accommodation of the year 2023, in the Peak District and Derbyshire!

THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF ORGANISING A PRIVATE CHEF, COCKTAIL-MASTER CLASSES, MURDER MYSTERY NIGHTS, BEAUTY & HAIR SERVICES AND YOGA & KEEP FIT CLASSES. DISCUSS THESE OPTIONS WITH SOPHIE, THE PROPERTY MANAGER, SO SHE MAY HELP YOU CREATE YOUR OWN UNIQUE PEAK DISTRICT BREAKAWAY/ CELEBRATION AT THE BARN!

The Water Mill's picnic area is a short 5 minute walk which is on a footpath and stream which joins the High Peak, Tissington Trail and conveniently connects to Carsington Water (the famous Ellen McCarthur learnt to sail); offering our guests good walking and cycling opportunities from the holiday cottage.

There is so much to do, see, and explore in this area with some of the finest country stately homes in England to visit, such as: Chatsworth House - famous by the documentary series and also the much loved television series of Pride & Prejudice. Jane Austen fans will love the estate and gardens as much as the children! There is also the hauntingly enchanting Haddon Hall to visit which is a particular favourite of mine, where Jayne Eyre was screened from and are both an easy scenic car ride of 25 minutes away. Bakewell is a stunning Peak Park town and every Monday has a large busy market and various shops to explore. Bakewell is still open for business on a Sunday and also gives you a chance to wander along the River Derwent and feed the ducks and maybe take a bite of the real Bakewell Pudding!

If your love is for the sea, even in the middle of the countryside we can offer you Carsington Water as an alternative. A stunning setting just a couple of miles away you can do most water sports from or take a gentle walk around the area. Theme parks are readily available and the most famous in the area is Alton Towers only a 30-minute drive away and is set in stunning scenery. 20 minutes drive North through quiet lanes takes you to Gullivers Kingdom for the younger members of the group or The heights of Abraham exploring the caves at Matlock Bath.

NOTE: We welcome quiet family and friends celebrations and Sophie Webb our Property Manager, is here to assist you to make it a very special occasion. No Pets or Smoking allowed.

Family Easter stay
Had a fabulous stay in this gorgeous property over Easter. Everything was as described and better. Welcome pack and attention to detail was perfect and location great for local walks or travel that bit further. Could not fault at all, the hot tub was definitely worth booking too. Would definitely come back, thank you so much.

Cracking renovation of the Watermill
Found this impressive gem of a property by accident and glad I did. Massive property and all fully modernised with everything you could want. Every room was spot on. The owner was always about and happy to talk and give suggestions and even took the kids to feed the goats & chickens, defiantly be rebooking for next year,

I grew up in London and relocated with work to Derbyshire. It was after exploring the area that I realised I would never return to city life - the fresh air and freedom of the countryside and hills made me feel alive. I have now been lucky to live in the area for 30 years and in this time I have married and have three wonderful children who have grown up in this glorious part of England! Our favourite places to walk with our dog called Bailey, is the Dovedales and Ilam Estate, Tissington, Alstonefield and Mildale, Lathkill Dale, Carsington and the Chatsworth Estate. If you like to venture a bit further then north of Bakewell is some outstanding walks and views. Monsal Head near Ashford On The Water, Curbar and Frogatt Edge, Stanedge Edge near,Hathersage and Kinder Scout are some of the ones which stand out if you are a keen walker. There is also Buxton Town or Bakewell which is another lovely day out with outstanding walks on the North side.

Why they chose this property

The Water Mill is a Grade II listed stone barn conversion in the Peak District National Park and is a rare find due to its location and beauty. It is set in its own secluded corner alongside a stream and offers guests the ultimate holiday break away. With walks and a cycle path, horse riding on its doorstep and glorious countryside surrounding it, its setting is second to none. Award winning villages are minutes away and Carsington Water which offers various water sports and stunning scenery is around the corner. The Water Mill is close to two enchanting market towns, Ashbourne and Bakewell and the best stately houses in the UK - Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall. If this is not all, Alton Towers, Heights of Abraham, Gullivers Kingdom Theme Parks are all approximately 25 minutes drive away from the Holiday Accommodation. We now offer some very special getaways and packages to include Private chef and dinning at the barn, murder mystery evenings, water painting or cookery classes, spa breaks, massage and therapist, outdoor keep fit classes and other activities. Please email us if you would like any further assistance to making your stay memorable.

What makes this property unique

The Water Mill is a Grade II property and is considered the oldest water mill in Derbyshire and is set in its own detached grounds with fabulous views of the Peak District. A short 5-10 minute walk will take you to the far end of the mill race which offers you two tranquil picnic areas bordering a stream. Venture a little further to Tissington Village a mile away where you will go back in time to the enchanting Hall, church, duck pond and little stone cottages. There is so many places to visit here in Derbyshire and the area offers the finest stately homes such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Sudbury Hall. Alton Towers Theme Park is only a 30 minute drive away as well as Gullivers Kingdom and The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath. The pretty market towns of Bakewell and Ashbourne are in easy access as well as Carsington Water and the Dovedales, Ilam only a couple of miles away. Whatever you do during your day, you know that you will be able to relax back at the Barn and enjoy the fine views. The additional picnic area located by a steam a few minutes walk from the property to relax and take in the natural setting with a glass of wine or a morning coffee and newspaper. Our unique getaway weekend and mid week breaks also offer you the chance to add on some extra services to make your stay totally unique. If you would like a spa break or prefer a beauty therapist to come to you, maybe you would like to try one of our teacher classes such as cookery, or out door keep fit tailored to your time and group, or why not have the stress taken away for your special day by using a private chef to cook for you and your guests a wonderful 5 star dinner without the need of leaving the barn and going to a restaurant? We look forward to welcoming you very soon to The Water Mill.
