The Malt House forms one wing of Portree's former grain mill. Over 200 years old it is now a grade 2 listed upside down house full of charm and character. The house is an easy 5 minute walk from the centre of Portree with all its restaurants and facilities, yet is situated in a leafy tucked away location. The upstairs living area is light, bright and open plan. The sea is a 2 minute stroll from the house. Portree is the capital of Skye and a great base for exploring all that Skye has to offer.

The property really is a 5 min walk from town. That was the best part. The info and photos online are dated and because that set expectations, our initial impression was disappointing - which planted a seed of doubt. Thankfully, the TV, mattresses and towels were all fine. Our stay would have also been enhanced by any kind of general info letter. We had to get in touch with the host for the wi-fi code and figure out the systems for ourselves (i.e. the heating -- but once we figured it out, it worked well). They do explain the tricky front door and that's critical. But, they'd do well to upgrade the living room furniture (and all pillows, upstairs and down) or retake the photos to more accurately reflect the unit now. I'd still recommend it for the location though.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Malt House. It was a it is described on VRBO. We were a group of 4 and found the upstairs living space and the downstairs bedrooms/bathroom to work great. The Malt House is 5 minutes walking from Portree center. Try Antlers and Sea Breezes for dinner but make reservations. We had outstanding dinners at both restaurants. The Tour Skye, Best of Skye Day Tour was everything you would need to see the sights of the Isle of Syke. It's an incredible island!!!
The property was a short walk from the local coop, whilst being enough away from the village to be quiet at night! It was cosy and clean, whilst also having plenty of space to relax in. The location made it very easy to explore the isle, with most spots within an hours drive!
Fab short stay in this lovely Portree upside down house
A very nicely decorated immaculate house with everything needed for a comfortable short stay on the Isle of Skye. Ben and Jane were both very helpful in advance and during our stay, I would strongly recommend this house for a short stay in Portree Which is a great base for exploring the island.
Loved this accommodation. Everything was perfect with lots of little touches that made all the difference to our stay. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy and in a great location to the town. I would definitely recommend this accommodation as a base to explore the beautiful Isle of Skye
