The Barn at Mead Farm is a truly special place on the doorstep of the Pennine Way. With views throughout the Hope Valley, and the iconic Lose Hill, Win Hill and Kinder Scout range right on your doorstep it really is the perfect place to come and get away from it all.
The Barn has been lovingly rebuilt in the original stone to reflect its history but with the benefits of modern living within. The bedrooms feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and trusses. The ground floors are fully tiled with underfloor heating, with traditional radiators in the bedrooms. The original barn has been divided into two holiday barns, the smaller being The Acorn which sleeps two and the larger being The Oaks which will sleep five, all with ensuite bedrooms.
Light and airy with a contemporary feel, The Barn is an ideal place to relax after a long day exploring the area whether walking, cycling or sightseeing and taking in the many local attractions. The Barn is totally non-smoking, as are the outdoor patio and terrace.
The Barn has central heating and is fully equipped with everything you will need for a home away from home. We provide all towels and bedlinen.
There are paved patio areas to the front and rear of The Barn, both enjoying superb views across the Hope Valley. There is a sheltered patio with picnic tables for the summer months where you can enjoy views over Win Hill. Guests are also welcome to explore the private farmland where we have a flock of sheep grazing with their lambs in the spring season.
There is off road parking provided in front of The Barn and lockable storage for bikes and other outdoor equipment.
Mead Farm is situated in the heart of The Peak National Park with easy access to walks in every direction. With views to both Win Hill and Lose Hill, it is in an area of outstanding beauty, but within easy reach of local amenities.
The village of Hope has a good selection of local shops and pubs. There is a fridge and freezer in both cottages, and plenty of storage space for groceries.
The railway station is about a mile away from the village with regular trains between Manchester and Sheffield. There is a bus route which runs through to Sheffield from Castleton.
Castleton is the busiest village in the area with plenty of places of interest to visit - The Blue John Mine, Speedwell Cavern, Treak Cliff Cavern, Peveril Castle to name just a few. There are several interesting shops selling jewellery and gifts and a variety of places to eat and drink.
The Barn is a short walk from The Cheshire Cheese Inn just along Edale Road. The Cheese has all the warmth of a traditional English pub with a friendly welcome good food and drink and a great atmosphere. It has a regular folk music night on the first Thursdays of the month which is a real local institution and great fun.
