About this property

Rustic luxury away from it all

Just 15 minutes from the Village of Cloudcroft and nestled amongst the pines, Fawn Passage is the perfect little getaway for one or two. This cabin is not appropriate for small children and you must have pre-approval before bringing a child. For our protection and yours, we have a camera on the front exterior of the cabin, aimed at the driveway.

Fawn Passage welcomes you home to peaceful beauty. Just bring your clothes, we'll provide the rest. You can't help but leave here feeling rested and de-stressed! While we depend on God to provide the wildlife and beautiful weather, we provide relaxation, comfortable furnishings TV, lots of books, and WiFi. We do not provide cable or dish, so there is no television reception. We do, however, provide over 70 movies for your enjoyment. The stereo is bluetooth enabled so you can connect from your phone and listen to Pandora, Spotify, etc. through the speakers.

We do not allow smoking anywhere on the property - inside or out, and we do not allow pets. Fire restrictions are usually high, but you may use the propane grill on the deck.

If you're ready to feel pampered, come upstairs where we have a queen size bed with an excellent mattress, 2" memory foam mattress topper, 400-500 thread count 100% cotton sheets, a down comforter and fluffy pillows. One short nap on this bed will make you want to go to bed early and sleep in late. All bed linens are provided and all are line-dried in fresh air and sunshine, and then pressed.

Fawn Passage features a well-stocked kitchen, that's ready to cook in or just to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. It includes a full size stove and refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, and coffee pot, and is fully stocked with new dishes, cookware and crock pots, as well as a gas grill on the deck. We provide you with filtered water, fresh ground Organic Ruta Maya coffee, fresh ground decaf, hot cocoa, hot apple cider, specialty teas, Krusteaz pancake mix, Log Cabin syrup, and a variety of instant oatmeal. We make it easy for you to prepare delicious meals with a well stocked spice cabinet. The kitchen is surrounded by windows, so it's light and airy and offers an excellent view of the wildlife. We provide so many extras at no extra charge, that it's like coming to your own home away from home. If you need it, we probably provide it.

In the bathroom (downstairs), we pamper you with with quality handmade soap and lotion from Thymeless Bath, as well as shampoo, conditioner, a blow dryer and flat iron.

You can relax and unwind inside or out. Our living area includes large comfortable furniture to curl up in and watch a movie, read, snuggle or just take a nap. The woodburner is ready to use, with all the wood provided for you at no extra charge. When it's cold outside, there's nothing more relaxing than curling up on the couch and watching the flames flicker. In the cold months, there are two heaters in the living room, in case you don't want to make a fire.

The covered deck provides the perfect spot to cook steaks on the grill or just sit and watch the hummingbirds. If you pay attention, you might see deer, turkey, rabbits, blue jays, porcupines, elk or a bear.

At Fawn Passage, the summer daytime highs can be anywhere from 50 to 80 degrees with the overnight lows around 45 to 60, so bring a sweater or light jacket. Winter daytime highs can range from 20 to 50, with overnight lows very cold, so you'll definitely need a warm jacket! In winter months (Dec-Jan), we recommend 4WD or chains. You can usually get up our driveway without them, but 4WD makes it much easier, if there is snow. I always have people ask if they "need" 4WD or can they get here without it. 90% of the time you can, but there's always that 10% chance. You'll have to decide if it's necessary.

Fawn Passage is not a hunter's lodge and while we do host the occasional hunter, you will be required to take extra care that most hunters are not willing to do. We have white towels and bedding, as well as light colored carpeting. No field dressing deer or elk allowed on the property.

Great furnishings
Very well equiped kitchen. Everything you might need for cooking. Comfortable living room. We only had two issues. One is that the bedroom is upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. The other is a matter of personal preference. Too soft a mattress for us.

Relaxing getaway
Wanted a place to detach and recharge for my birthday. This place was perfect! We decided to cook most of our meals at the cabin. So much was provided which made it great! The cabin warmed up beautifully and the BED was like heaven. This is an excellent choice

Cute, comfortable cabin
This little cabin is a great place to stay. It is exceptionally clean and well maintained. The furniture is comfortable, and a lot of thought was given to be sure guests are comfortable. The only reason I didn't rate it at 5 stars is the loft/bedroom. It is as good as it could be, but the ceiling slopes so much that it is hard to avoid bumping your head. At least it was for me. My wife was apparently more careful. Maybe I'm a klutz. Kudos to the owner/host for making the most with what they have.

Cabin was ok, didn’t much like the bedroom upstairs and bathroom downstairs, stairs were very steep.
It was good, we should have read the details better, wife just had hip replacement surgery about three weeks before, that was our fault for not looking closer at the property.

Heaven at 8586 Feet
The perfect place for me. Just the quiet and getting out of the rat race was exactly what I needed. I did not miss tv. The DVD movie selection, book and music CD's were the perfect selection. I especially loved the deer, elk and so many hummingbirds as well as other birds that came around each day. Lisa was the perfect host. I did not have to lug a bunch of stuff from home. Cabin well stocked. Will be back!

Great cabin for 2 with many extras
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Fawn Passage cabin and hope to return sometime! Great location in the woods not far from Cloudcroft. We drove to White Sands one day and Ruidoso another day. Although there are other neighboring cabins, it doesn't feel too close. We enjoyed sitting on the porch to watch the wildlife. A huge elk was in the front yard of the cabin next door so that was a real treat. The cabin is well equipped with all the supplies that are needed when away from home but often forgotten. We felt the cabin was better than our expectations and a great value!

Nice cabin in wooded mountain neighborhood.
We loved the scent of the pines in the fresh mountain air! Nice cozy cabin was neat and clean. Full, well-equipped kitchen much appreciated by us foodies. Small wood stove warmed the nights, which were cool even in June. No AC needed at this altitude. Hummingbird feeder was a treat for us as well as the birds. Plentiful hot water once the wife read the instructions and "suggested" that I flip the switch to turn the heater on. Nice bed. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Great stay at Quiet Cabin
Quiet , somewhat secluded cabin. I say “somewhat” secluded as we could see 3 or 4 other cabins but never another cabin. Instructions were extensive, kitchen well appointted, we didn’t watch Tv or video so cannot speak to that. Got a little light snow second night which made it brisk out. Bed very comfortable. We were out both days seeing White Sands NP and Chaco Cultural Center and did not arrive back until just before dark. If you are over 65 (like us) and your internal plumbing requires one or two nocturnal bathroom visits. there is only one bathroom on main floor. The stairs to loft are steep and it seemed like rise was a few inches taller than usual. We left a downstairs lamp on to guide us and all was well, but might be a consideration for those with urgency and frequency issues.. Had never been to Cloudcroft and it is charming. Many restaurants still not open or only to 5 or 6. We never did find the local market so ended up eating take away both nights.

About the host

Hosted by Lisa Fitzwater

Host profile image
Hi, my name is Lisa and I'll be your host! I'm not just the host, however, I'm also the owner and enjoy making people feel at home the minute they walk in the door to either of our cabins. Because I'm the owner, I have a vested interested in seeing the cabin maintained. I hire someone to clean for me, but I come up regularly to check things and complete detail cleaning that I don't ask others to do for me. As I'm extremely picky about the bedding and towels, I bring all laundry back to El Paso to wash and hang on the line (except for the towels, which go in the dryer).

Why they chose this property

We have two cabins in this neighborhood and we love it. We've been renting our first cabin (right next door) since 2005 and this cabin since about 2016. We've gotten to know our full-time neighbors, as well as many of our part-time neighbors and we all watch out for each other. It's a safe, quiet neighborhood that we love being a part of.

What makes this property unique

Before we remodeled and started renting our cabins, we rented several ourselves. I knew right away that I wanted something more for our guests - I want them to feel pampered, even if they didn't realize. I have over 30 sets of sheets between the two cabin and I wash, line-dry and iron every single one of them. I want our beds to look special and inviting, even if you don't know why. My kitchens are stocked with so many extras, to make cooking a pleasure. I've stayed at both of our cabins many times and that's how I've come to stock it with so many extras. Taking a trip can be crazy enough, we try to help calm some of the craziness! We have a high percentage of repeat renters, which is the highest complement I can claim. Some guests have been staying with us since we started renting and they're practically family now.
