About this property

Owl Lodge at Faraway Follies

Owl Lodge, a converted garage & game larder at the entrance to a 19th century shooting lodge on the edge of a grouse moor in North Wales, was converted into a healing room & artists studio 15 years ago and is now a holiday lodge.
Close to Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the famous Horse Shoe Pass it is the perfect retreat from everyday routine to repair one's soul. Listen to the owls at night & watch the many different little birds in the trees, as you take in the views across the valley from the hot tub.
The Double bedroom has a comfy mattress and Egyptian cotton bed linen. The whole property is on one level. There is a sofa bed in the sitting room that pulls out into a king size bed. The Egyptian cotton bedding for the sofa bed is in a cubby under the right hand side of the sofa.
A piece of Paradise....
Your hosts, Margaret and Jenny have lived in their Victorian hunting lodge, Faraway for over 40 years and in 2016 they made the decision to share their piece of paradise with you by opening Owl Lodge to paying guests. This was received with such enthusiasm that they then decided to convert an old kennel building and hence The Doghouse was opened in 2018 along with the Treehouse and gypsy caravans at Copse Camp and with that Faraway Follies was born.

Sustainable Travel
Reducing the environmental impact of Faraway Follies is important to us. So where ever we can we reduce the amount of plastics we use and recycle as much as we can. We gained our Green Key accreditation in only our 3rd year in business and still look to make improvements to whatever we do.

Health and Wellbeing
We believe that looking after your mind and body are of primary importance. Faraway Follies is fast becoming a centre of holistic wellness with monthly day retreats and bi monthly soundbaths. However the Secret Sauna and Penguin Pool take centre stage in our approach to the health of the mind and body. You don't have to stay at Faraway Follies to enjoy these facilities but of course, if you are staying here they are here for your enjoyment.

The Lodges
There are three places to stay. Owl Lodge can sleep 4 people with a double bedroom and a king sized sofa bed in the living area. The Doghouse is a more romantic space for two people beside a babbling brook. And Copse Camp is the home of our treehouse with two gypsy caravans that can sleep 6 people. Each of the spaces have their own wood fired hottub.

This Part of Wales
We are perfectly situated for all the activities that North Wales has to offer. Whether that is walking in the mountains, canoeing, white water rafting, mountain biking, fishing, exploring historic sites or simply sitting and taking in the stunning views and sun sets. Its all here for you at Faraway Follies.

Relaxing getaway in beautiful surroundings
Luxurious lodge in a peaceful setting. Loved the decor and the countryside views, and the accommodation provided everything we needed for a relaxing three-night stay. Would happily return to explore some more of the area.

Lovely and relaxing
The small house is beautifully appointed--great linens, comfortable furniture, romantic outdoor hot tub, pretty surfaces. Great wood stove with lots of wood. We were very comfortable and happy there, and appreciated our host, Jennie, who was very helpful in suggesting walks and sights to see. We have one small complaint, which is that the kitchen is minimally equipped--not the place for even a semi-serious cook. No frying pan or mixing bowls or decent salad bowl. Great toaster, though.

Amazing!
Booked this trip for my Mum and her partner to celebrate their wedding. The owners made them so welcome, put rose petals on the bed, congrats bunting up, treats on arrival…. Absolutely no faults, they absolutely loved it and said it was one of the nicest places they had stayed at.

I felt softly wrapped up in a warmth of relaxation and calm.
Inviting open plan lodge, with the warmth of the log burner in a lovely rural setting. There were countryside views from all the windows. Extremely comfortable bed and pillows with beautiful white bedding. A good range of facilities and very approachable hosts .

Beautiful retreat in the countryside
The cabin was really well laid out and the decor was beautiful. Delightful lofty bedroom and fabulous bathroom. The living space was open and lofty complimented with a wood burning stove and views from windows 360 degrees. Oak Lodge had a balcony with Hot Tub and BBQ and also a steaming hot sauna and back to nature pond for a cooling plunge was available 20 metres away. The hosts were extremely friendly and kind, making sure I had everything I needed. The location was ideal for star gazing.... the dark skies were evident. Certainly a place to relax and recharge... Wildlife in abundance....

Cozy
We had our honeymoon here and it was cozy, the views are amazing, the hot tub is so relaxing. It’s such a great place to get away from the outside world and chill out and snuggle together in front of the fire roasting marshmallows. We also took our two dogs which loved running around on the enclosed field right next to the cabin.

About the host

Host profile image
We keep bees, chickens, sheep and goats here at our 19th century shooting lodge on the edge of a grouse moor in Wales. We have lived here together for 48 years. We used to have a food business that sold pâté and relishes across the UK and beyond so we love good food. We have enjoyed travelling around the world. We grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy our garden. Jenny is a trained crystal and sound therapist and Margaret and I both have a very creative nature. Many of Margaret"s art works adorn the walls of Owl Lodge, The Dog House and our home.
We are always ready to help to make your stay as peaceful and trouble free as we can.
