About this property

The Doghouse at Faraway Follies

The Dog House is the converted kennel building of a 19th century shooting lodge close to Llandegla Mountain Bike Centre and the famous Horse Shoe Pass it is the perfect retreat from everyday routine to repair one's soul.
With the windows open or sitting in the hot tub you can hear the relaxing noises of the stream and birds in the trees that surround the property.
It has a double bed with Egyptian Cotton sheets with views of the valley and the stream. There is a wood burning stove to keep you warm and cosy. The kitchen has a gas hob, microwave, mini oven, toaster and kettle. The veranda with comfy wicker chairs overlooking the stream is perfect for watching the sun set.
A piece of Paradise....
Your hosts, Margaret and Jenny have lived in their Victorian hunting lodge, Faraway for over 40 years and in 2016 they made the decision to share their piece of paradise with you by opening Owl Lodge to paying guests. This was received with such enthusiasm that they then decided to convert an old kennel building and hence The Doghouse was opened in 2018 along with the Treehouse and gypsy caravans at Copse Camp and with that Faraway Follies was born.

Sustainable Travel
Reducing the environmental impact of Faraway Follies is important to us. So where ever we can we reduce the amount of plastics we use and recycle as much as we can. We gained our Green Key accreditation in only our 3rd year in business and still look to make improvements to whatever we do.

Health and Wellbeing
We believe that looking after your mind and body are of primary importance. Faraway Follies is fast becoming a centre of holistic wellness with monthly day retreats and bi monthly soundbaths. However the Secret Sauna and Penguin Pool take centre stage in our approach to the health of the mind and body. You don't have to stay at Faraway Follies to enjoy these facilities but of course, if you are staying here they are here for your enjoyment.

The Lodges
There are three places to stay. Owl Lodge can sleep 4 people with a double bedroom and a king sized sofa bed in the living area. The Doghouse is a more romantic space for two people beside a babbling brook. And Copse Camp is the home of our treehouse with two gypsy caravans that can sleep 6 people. Each of the spaces have their own wood fired hottub.

This Part of Wales
We are perfectly situated for all the activities that North Wales has to offer. Whether that is walking in the mountains, canoeing, white water rafting, mountain biking, fishing, exploring historic sites or simply sitting and taking in the stunning views and sun sets. Its all here for you at Faraway Follies.

An amazing experience in a lovely location, couldnt ask for more from a break away!
Jenny was excellent, very helpful throughout. Accomidation was great, lovely location and amenities within The Doghouse made for an easy stay and much needed rest. The little personal touches, such as name on the welcome board, small figts and trinkets, as well as the cleanliness of the place went a long way. Thank you once again, our stay was great and we had an amazing time. Already recommended to a few folk and looking to come back again soon.

So idyllic!!
My partner and i stayed in The Doghouse. What an incredibly special place. It’s in a spectacularly beautiful area and is a little slice of heaven. Set by a babbling stream, the inside is full of lovely quirky and thoughtful little touches. The bed is extremely comfortable and we slept exceptionally well. There’s a wonderful spring water hot tub which is heated via a log burner. Hosts Jenny and Mags are just delightful and made the stay so special. We have already rebooked!!!

Wonderful, magical, amazing
My wife & I decided to stay in the doghouse for our honeymoon. It was absolutely beautiful, couldn't of picked a more perfect place to stay. The lodge was beautiful, felt at home as soon as we arrived. The hot tub was perfect. We ventured into town a few times but didn't really need to or want to as the lodge was so lovely. We didn't want to leave & could of easily stayed for longer

A little piece of heaven
I booked a night at The Doghouse, for my husband and I as work has been hectic and we needed time to unwind. We were not disappointed! The Doghouse exceeded our expectation on every level.the location is perfect, it's so peaceful and calm. The accommodation is very comfortable and exceptionally clean, we loved all the doggy touches. My husbands favourite part was the hot tub filled with water from the stream. He loved building the fire to heat it and it was still warm in the morning!!

Fantastic quirky little place
Absolutely loved it. We were blessed with fab weather too. Lovely little place. The Dog House is ideally situated and very private even though owners house and Owl Lodge are nearby. It sits alongside the stream. We found the bed really comfortable which is always a bonus. The Dog House has everything you need and more. All the little extras the owners have included were really good, more than some hotels. There was a fab welcome pack for us and our little dog.

Fantastic 2 Night Stay
Myself, partner and our dog stayed at The Doghouse for 2 amazing nights. When he arrived Jenny had preheated the hot tub at out request. We stayed in the hot tub for hours on both nights. It was so relaxing listening to the stream that rounds around the cabin. The inside of the cabin was spotless and there was a small welcome package consisting of biscuits, cider, milk and pate as well as some dog treats. The cabin is decorated very tastfully with a few touches relating to its history (dog th

About the host

Hosted by Host

Host profile image
We keep bees, chickens, sheep and goats here at our 19th century shooting lodge on the edge of a grouse moor in Wales. We have lived here together for 48 years. We used to have a food business that sold pâté and relishes across the UK and beyond so we love good food. We have enjoyed travelling around the world. We grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy our garden. Jenny is a trained crystal and sound therapist and Margaret and I both have a very creative nature. Many of Margaret"s art works adorn the walls of Owl Lodge, The Dog House and our home.
We are always ready to help to make your stay as peaceful and trouble free as we can.
