About this property

Home-Ensuite with Shower-Mountain view

Joanne and Damian, who are your live in hosts, have opened up their home at St Marks Stays for groups and retreats. We are about creating a sociable experience that brings people together in the stunning location of the Yorkshire Dales and in close proximity to the Lake District.

With the perfect combination of facilities, space and location, St Marks Stays is for groups and retreats, is self-catering and pet friendly. We want you to feel a part of our home with the addition of lots of space to take time out on your own.

There are six ensuite rooms and two bedrooms that share a bathroom. Five rooms can be made up as twin, or double beds on request. One room has a bunkbed . This changes to just a double bed 2nd April 2024. All ensuites have showers and one has a bath. The shared bathroom has a bath with a shower over it.

The kitchen is the new heart of the home and that’s how we want you to feel at St Marks Stays. Our kitchen is perfect for your self-catering requirements where you can cook together, or have a chef, or caterers come in to create delicious food for you. We provide tea & coffee, seasonings & oils and kitchen equipment so you can cook on the gas hob, electric oven, or learn to use our Aga.

Our fabulous dining space is perfect for dinner parties, with large windows and patio doors offering awesome views across the hillside. There are two lounges, a real fire in one of them and a studio space that is perfect for all kinds of retreats, be it yoga, art, or business.

If you don't fancy venturing out into the surrounding countryside, then just sit back in our fabulous garden, listen to the river and enjoy the views from the comfort of the patio. Lets face it, we're right in the heart of the countryside so you can enjoy your chosen tipple, have a BBQ and then watch the sun go down over the beautiful Howgill Fells, staying warm in the evening around the fire pit and gaze up at the stars due to there being no light pollution.

The perfect venue for a yoga retreat
St Marks Stays was a perfect venue for a weekend retreat. The communication and help from Jo & Damian was exemplary, the kitchen was well equipped and the yoga studio with all the props saved us lugging them from our studios at home. A really easy venue to navigate and house ten guests and two teachers for a weekend of nurture.

Perfect, could not fault anything about the venue or the hosts
I loved the homely feel to the venue, the modern but rustic feel to the house. The thought and effort that the hosts put into the venue shows, they have thought of everything down to water bottles for each guest and lovely local homemade soaps. You do not want for nothing when staying in this venue The one thing I think could elevate this property even more would be a little sauna. With the ice bath it would be something so unbelievably unique

I felt completely comfortable and everything just flowed without stress as I knew all the small deta
I Loved that from as soon as we arrived Damien was there to greet us and walk things through with us. And knowing if there were any issues that they’d be dealt with without any hesitation. This took a lot of stress away. Everything was immaculate, and good quality but still with a homely vibe so you didn’t feel on edge & could relax fully. There was ore than enough crockery & utensils so made life in the kitchen providing meals for large groups easier. Then there’s the view…from every window!!

Bliss
This is my 3rd year using this gorgeous venue for my yoga retreats. Joanne and Damian are always so welcoming and make sure you have everything you need prior to and during your stay. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and very well equipped for large groups, plus lots of attention to things that make you feel even more at home. The view, the gardens are stunning and my guests always love getting out to practice on the decking. Another fabulous visit and can’t wait to be back soon.

An ideal venue to host retreats
After years of searching, I have finally found the ideal venue to host my wellbeing retreats. Every room is beautifully appointed with so much love and attention to detail. The location is both private and accessible and the views from the garden are spectacular. Joanne and Damian are the wonderful live-in hosts who offer the perfect balance of freedom and friendly support. I'm so glad I took a leap of faith and am really looking forward to returning again with my retreat ladies next year.

Fabulous Yoga Retreat Venue
This is the second year running that I have co-hosted a Yoga retreat at St Marks Stays. All our guests loved the ambience of the house which is extremely calm and peaceful. It really is a home away from home. We enjoyed the gardens and decking as the sun shone for us. The in house yoga studio makes the space work particularly well. However, it’s very versatile house and would work for many other types of stays. The owners Joanne and Damian were very helpful ensuring we had everything we needed.

A home away from home, perfect for making memories.
The warming homely feel throughout, relaxing atmosphere, superb views, the beautiful (yet functional) AGA, the rope swing and eclectic range of music and films.

Another magic getaway
We loved returning to our home from home at St.Marks! The perfect spot to winter and nest together at the start of the year. We loved the additions to the yoga studio & were grateful to not have to bring too much extra equipment. Joanne & Damian are always so helpful, warm & attentive.

Absolutely stunning house and beautiful scenery surrounding it
A group of 12 stayed last weekend for a sewing retreat and it was absolutely perfect. The house is beautiful with attention to detail everywhere and definitely home from home. There’s nothing Joanne and Damion (who were perfect hosts) haven’t thought of. The addition of the studio was perfect as all our sewing could be done in there which left the rest of the house for us to relax/chill in. It’s the best accommodation we’ve had and we loved it so much we booked again before we left.

Trully magical place!
I took a group of my students for a weekend yoga retreat. We had a beautiful studio on our disposal for our practice, the living room was great for our talks and workshops, and the walks our hosts introduced us to were incredible! The house is situated in a beautiful, calm and quiet part of the land, surrounded by breath-taking scenery.

Friendly and beautiful stay in the Yorkshire Dales
We stayed at St Marks Stays for a hen party, and everyone could not stop raving about how beautiful the house and location were. The views from every room were stunning, the rooms were decorated beautifully, the entire house was pristinely cleaned, and our hosts, Jo & Damian, made us feel completely welcome. They helped us with anything we needed, and we in no way felt as though we were stepping on their toes. Absolutely everyone loved it.

Family Get Together
We had a family holiday at St Marks at the end of July. We had a lovely welcome from Joanne and Damian when we arrived. Nothing was too much trouble for them - giving us our own space but also being available whenever needed for hints and tips.

Could not have loved St Mark's Stays any more!
This was a birthday celebration for 7 women (we had a room each, which was just perfect) and a dog. From the moment we arrived we received the warmest of welcomes and an immediate opportunity to sit outdoors, enjoy the late September sunshine and the views. We walked the fells opposite, walked to Cautley Spout and visited the local farm for delicious eggs and cakes, we also loved Farfield Mill. Harley our terrier had the time of his life in the garden. A really blissful stay!

About the host

Hosted by Host

Host profile image
We will be around as live in hosts, but we have our private living area tucked away at the end section of the house next to the studio along with our cocker spaniel. Don't worry though as we are very friendly and leave you in peace if you don't need us around. We can mix and socialise with you as much, or as little as feels right. We are on hand however to help make your stay right for you, so if there is anything special you need organising, you only need to ask.

It all started back in 2014 for us with a work sabbatical from our careers in architecture and photography to volunteer with Raleigh International overseas in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. We realised life should be about connecting with others, getting outdoors and really living life. Our Raleigh Expedition and love of travelling led us to creating a home to share with others.

We want to host a house that everybody gets involved in. There is nothing better for the soul than being part of a group of like minded people and going back to the good old days of chatting, learning from others, discovering the world from somebody else’s point of view and having fun together.

Arrive as strangers, leave as friends.
