About this property

Welsh Marches - Sugar Loaf

An ideal place for friends and family to get together this Cedar cottage was designed by award winning architects Hall & Bednarczyk and combines modern urban with country living. The extensive living area provides plenty of space for families or groups to relax, cook and eat around the huge bespoke steel and reclaimed wood table. All rooms benefit from spectacular ceiling to floor windows through which you can enjoy uninterrupted views of the Glyn Valley. Open the bifold doors to spill out onto the terrace for some alfresco dining or to have a quiet drink and watch the sun go down. This spacious cottage has all you need for comfortable living with a well-appointed kitchen area, plenty of comfy sofas, including a sofa bed, three en suite bedrooms one with a bath. Luxurious crisp linen on deep comfy mattresses.
The site has a separate laundry/drying room, bike store, and hot doggy shower.

Set on a farm in the heart of rural Monmouthshire on the edge of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty our three dog friendly cottages are ideal for activity and tranquility.

We are less that 15 minutes from the old Severn Bridge, M48 and Chepstow yet Bristol is 30 minutes away; Cardiff 40 minutes. The bridges are now toll free.

Our small working farm, with views over the River Severn, has horses, cows, sheep, chickens and ducks as well as our spaniels and cat .

We are at the heart of a network of paths, tracks and rural roads ideal for walkers, runners, on and off-road cyclists and horse riders. We are close to renowned rock climbing, potholes and canoeing in the Wye Valley; the National Diving Centre; Chepstow Racecourse and David Broome Equestrian Centre; and the glorious Black Mountains. Brecon Beacons and Forest of Dean with its mountain biking hub near Coleford are within an easy drive.

There are routes to explore on the farm and from the farm to pubs and locations such as Tintern Abbey. We are on the edge of a 1,000 acre wood.

All bedrooms are en suite in buildings renovated to the highest specification. Everything is new.

High ceilings and large windows are features of all the west facing rooms which look across the Glyn valley.

Each Cottage is named and themed after one of our local hills. The Sugar Loaf has three bedrooms while the Skirrid and Blorenge have one double bedroom each.

Each cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge with smart TV.

Visitors will find a small provision of household essentials on arrival including fresh eggs from our own hens.

We have a separate washing and drying room; and a warm shower for muddy dogs and bikes, and a secure room to store your valuable bikes.

Your hosts offer guided walks in the Wye Valley, Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons for every level of walker and you can book shiatsu treatments from a qualified practitioner.

great stay for walkers
We had a lovely stay despite the weather. The property was comfortable and clean. Being able to walk from the property was a real bonus, and the local walks were beautiful. The guidance on local walks was also really useful, and the opportunity to have shiatsu treatments as well really made the holiday.

Tranquil and scenic
A beautiful view and tranquil location. We loved our walks in the surrounding forest with amazing views across to The Severn Bridge, Prince of Wales Bridge and bay -just stunning. Also Chepstow pubs and Tintern Abbey did not disappoint! We were comfortable and it was great to chat to Chris and husband who were very informative and helpful. The natural pond and rewinding in the meadows with all the spring flowers add to the magic and natural beauty of the valley.

A fantastic stay in this lovely property
This property facilitated a great weekend getting the family all together. Each bedroom has very comfy beds and smart, clean ensuites. The living space is excellent with plenty of room for the kids to play and folding doors to outside space. The ability to lock our bikes in a secure outbuilding and wash them after use was a real bonus. We also made use of the forest right on the doorstep to have a nice walk around after we arrived.

Wonderful accommodation in delightful location
We met up with old friends and could do so in a safe way because the cottage is so spacious. It's the prefect base for exploring the local area with lots of local walks as well - the host is very knowledgeable about these. For us, being about to relax in comfort, to hardly have to use the car and simply chill out was just perfect. Can't recommend highly enough and would definitely go back at the first opportunity!

great weekend stay in a lovely location
we had a great weekend at Sugarloaf, with fabulous weather throughout - we had a lovely meal (and pint) at The Star on Friday evening, a very good curry delivered (by Kelly) for Saturday evening, and even managed a really lovely 90th birthday celebration for my Dad outside on the patio on Sunday! As good as it gets...

Beautiful Break once again
We stayed for a long weekend, returning having previously stayed the previous year. Once again the accommodation was spotless, modern, and with superb views in a beautiful part of the country.

Welsh Marches
Beautifully converted outbuildings on a small working farm just over the border into Wales. Furnished to a high standard and spotlessly clean. The very comfortable beds and quiet surroundings ensured a relaxing break. There is plenty to do in the area with many walking and cycling routes. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, we look forward to a return trip.
