About this property
Secret Cove 1 is like an enchanting cabin in the woods, set amid rustling
Secret Cove 1 is like an enchanting cabin in the woods, a prettily bijou white-washed timber home in the colonial style, set amid rustling, tropical plants and swaying palms, overlooking a secluded bay. Securely nestled within a small compound of four homes, these dwellings epitomise discreet luxury and understated style. Unpretentious and welcoming, Secret Cove 1 offers an escape from the bustle of the crowds and strains of urban living.
The elegant facade features the quintessentially Bajan pillared veranda with decorative gables and white-wash timber. Artfully un-manicured, the gardens are a mystical blend of jungle-like plant life, fragrantly vivid flowers, the sounds of the ocean and cooling trade winds. With a dining terrace, barbecue and gazebo, finished with sedate local-style wicker dining and lounge furniture, outdoor living has never been so natural and seamless.
Perched on the cliff, this aptly named “pied-à-terre” is an ideal romantic bolthole, or intimate dwelling for two couples or a small family. Ever-so graceful in its charmingly natural finishes and a refreshing change from the glitterati-heavy hot-spots on the well-heeled west coast resorts, this is a haven for restoration, living according to the rhythms of surrounding nature, and reconnecting as a group.
The interiors at Secret Cove are sedated yet genteel, finished with a lightness of touch, a soft and creamy palette blends with natural timbers and abundant natural light. Two tranquil bedrooms offer chic and serene restoration; the double room with accents of soft powdery blue and the twin room with accents of dusty pink, guests will immediately imbibe the home-like ambience of this delightful, and unique dwelling.
A vibrant place, un-self-consciously graceful and artfully under-designed, with a charming interplay between indoor and outdoor living, and the magical seclusion of a private beach and cove - guests will have a sense of entering a hidden world of Bajan magic and tropical ease.
What we love about it
Cook/housekeeper and gardener on hand to add an extra layer of pampering to guests’ stay
Nestled in a secure and private oasis of tropical greenery, whilst being a short distance to local amenities
The defining feature of this bijou home is access to a private and secluded beach along with its own cove
What you should know
There is no pool - however, the secluded beach is just a few steps away!
Set within a compound of four homes (e.g. not for those who wish for a rambling detached home in its own gardens)
Shared gardens and outdoor spaces - ideal for making holiday friends!
Location
Secret Cove 1 is nestled a short distance from Holetown in the district of Derricks, St James, on the west coast of Barbados, also known as the “platinum coast.”
Just a short distance from Secret Cove 1, is The Cliff restaurant, which has been widely regarded as one of the finest and most popular restaurants in the Caribbean. Having earned multiple international awards and accolades, The Cliff is often included in lists of the Top Restaurants in the world.
This stretch of coast is an intriguing melting pot of superior luxe, high-end spas, world-class golf resorts and star-studded restaurants as well as eclectic and historical local life.
Holetown will offer a slice of local Bajan life. The Chattel village is a melting pot of artisans, offering local crafts, art and jewellery. The Chattel houses provide a striking contrast to the colonial residences with their dazzling white coral facades and open verandas; the former are vividly coloured with fancy gables and gingerbread fretwork. The Chattel houses date back to plantation days; the small wooden shacks were designed to be movable, yet this didn’t limit their decorative charm; finished in candy pinks and pistachio greens with pretty shutters and sloping roofs.
Speightstown, also known as “little Bristol,” offers evocative local life, fisherman casting their catch on the jetty, a distinctly nautical feel along with street vendors and eclectic dining options.
The island’s capital, Bridgetown, is known for its British colonial architecture and historical sites blending with colourful shopping, an abundance of sea-based activities and UNESCO world heritage status.
Water sports enthusiasts will be in their element, from sailing to snorkelling, jet-skiing to kite-surfing, Barbados has it all. One of the greatest delights of this island is boarding the sparkling waters for a catamaran cruise, along with a decadent buffet meal and drinks.
Kids
Best Suited For: All Ages
Secret Cove 1 is an excellent choice for small families. With an open plan lateral layout, and a natural blend between indoor and outdoor living, this makes an ideal space for toddlers and youngsters (no stairs to tumble down), whilst the privacy and seclusion of the beach at the end of the garden makes for an effortless holiday base.
Youngsters will be enchanted by the magical and mystical gardens, with hidden corners and tropical overgrowth, whilst the novelty of a barbecue meal on the veranda as the sun dips across the bay will never wear thin.
Barbados offers so much for family travellers. At only 21 miles by 14 miles, with 60 miles of pristine coastline, days at the beach as a family are the centre of a Bajan holiday.
From intriguing caves to mystical gardens, from vibrant street-fare to formal polo matches - genteel cricket matches and colourful street crafts, Barbados offers a unique experience for youngsters which will captivate small imaginations for years to come.
Secret Cove 1 offers proximity to some of the most child-friendly beaches on the West Coast. Mullins Beach is a good option for kids with tranquil seas and long sandy stretches for sand-castle building whilst adults will enjoy rum punch from their rented parasols or older kids will indulge in water sports. Folkestone Marine and Visitor Centre in Holetown offers a fantastic museum and beginners snorkelling.
Harrison’s Cave offers a journey beneath the limestone surface that makes up much of the island - a mysterious 30 minute underground guided train trip taking in crystallised formations, intricate streams and awe-inspiring caverns. Barbados provides a vibrant, sensory experience for children of all ages, and leaves lasting memories for years to come.
