About this property

Lovely cottage which is part of a Grade II listed building

Gothic House Cottage is situated opposite the imposing Church of St Peter and St Paul in Clare, which sits in the Upper Stour Valley. The cottage is ideally placed, just a 5 minute walk from the shops, restaurants and pubs in Clare and within walking distance of the Country Park, where the remains of Clare Castle stand. With so much on the doorstep, you can park the car up for your stay until it's time to head home.

The ground floor of the cottage has an open and airy living space with a large dining kitchen and garden room with floor to ceiling windows providing lovely views over the extensive garden at the rear. The sitting room has an electric, living flame stove to gather around when night time draws in. Upstairs, both bedrooms overlook the church and have the choice of the first floor bathroom with separate shower, or the ground floor shower room. Bedroom two has the flexibility of a super-king size bed which can be separated into twin single beds on request.

Outside, a small, enclosed garden and courtyard has access to a shed to store bicycles if you fancy exploring the local countryside on two wheels; along with use of an additional, larger garden beyond. The outdoor, heated swimming pool is available for use from mid-May until the end of August by arrangement with the homeowners. There is also a grass tennis court which although not Wimbledon championship standard, guests are welcome to use and enjoy as well, again from mid-May to the end of August.

Suffolk revisited
Lovely cottage enhanced by beautiful weather. Roadside parking could be a problem in busy season but there is a large public car park in the village. My only gripe was the difficulty getting assistance from the rental company when we arrived which was very annoying. Hope to revisit soon.

A week in Clare, Suffolk
A very enjoyable and relaxing week in the smallest market town in Suffolk. The cottage was delightful with beautiful views across the large back garden. No parking on site but we were always lucky to find roadside parking along by the cottage. Pubs and takeaways are within walking distance and there are plenty of local walks. After the first day you become familiar with the chimes from the Church clock and although the cottage is on the main road through the town, any traffic noise was not a problem. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be more than happy to return.

A perfect home to relax
Gothic House Cottage is a beautiful home in a beautiful town. We really enjoyed looking out at the garden at breakfast, and hearing endless birdsong instead of traffic noise. The children went in the pool every day and we played games around the huge garden which the owners kindly share with their guests. The house has everything you need for a week, all the kitchen essentials and plenty of comfy seating. The town is small and friendly and the Globe pub, just a couple of minutes away, is very welcoming and has great beer. Clare is perfectly placed for day trips to the beach at Southwold, and the circular walks around Clare itself are nicely put together. A wonderful place for a relaxing break!

Relaxing break
This is one of the most comfortable holiday homes we’ve stayed in - clean, well equipped and in a lovely location. The owners were very welcoming and it was a real treat to have use of their pool and tennis court. Clare is a pretty market town with a range of shops. There were several good walks we could do from the door as well as lots of places to visit further afield. Definitely recommended!

Stay in Clare, Suffolk
Super week with generous and thoughtful hosts in a very pleasant cottage. Clare itself has everything you might need even without a car and there’s excellent walking locally. If you’re a light sleeper bring ear plugs as the church bells do sound through the night.

An enjoyable holiday in a delightful cottage.
We were really pleased with our stay at Gothic Cottage in Clare, Suffolk. The cottage was well equipped and there was sufficient crockery to make use of the dishwasher. The beds were comfy and the bedding really soft and smooth. The showers were easy to use. The out look over the garden was delightful. We used the swimming pool but not the tennis court as the weather meant the grass court might be too slippy for 70+ year olds. We found Clare an ideal spot. We managed different days out without travelling more than twenty miles. Suffolk is a pretty county with lots of historical interest and roads that were quiet and not too busy. There were plenty of local walks around the village. The local Coop and butchers were sufficient for our food needs and almost on the doorstop. Even the chiming church clock was fairly quiet! Our hosts were friendly and helpful. We are more than happy to recommend a holiday here.

A room with a view
Gothic house cottage is an annexe to the big house but even so enjoys a glorious view from the oak conservatory down over the lawned garden which takes in the swimming pool, generously shared with us by the owners. The cottage is comfortable and stylish with a lovely collection of art on the walls and comfortable beds with good linen. We would certainly stay here again and can highly recommend it for a restful holiday .

OUTSTANDING IN EVERY WAY
A beautiful property owned by two equally beautiful people who made our stay a pleasure. The property was spotless, well appointed and had everything we needed. The location means that you can walk into the town in 2 minutes where there are lovely shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Lots of dog walking paths and the fact that we were able to use the extensive house gardens, swimming pool and tennis court was a real bonus. We visited many places within an easy drive, Clare itself is a lovely place with the added bonus of the Country Park. Thank you Gothic Cottage for really making our holiday which was much needed (especially after a 9 hour drive to get there courtesy of the last day of the half term and 2 breakdowns on the M25). We do intend to return and have NO hesitation in highly recommending this cottage.

A good place to relax
A beautiful property, the pictures do not do it justice. Immaculately clean with lovely touches that make you feel at home and very comfy beds. The view out into the owners garden is so relaxing and we happily spent time just watching nature. The location is good for exploring the town of Clare and the surrounding countryside and our 14 year old Labrador felt just as much at home in Gothic House cottage as we did. We felt very relaxed, comfortable and welcomed in this cottage.

O
Lovely clean house with good quality equipment/linen etc. Private entrance and large attractive garden. Beds were excellent and super comfortable but armchairs in garden room and lounge not very comfortable. Very generous 'welcome' food/drink supplied which was unexpected and appreciated.
