Teignmouth is a traditional seaside town on the south coast of Devon where the Georgian and Victorian architecture and the steam railway tell of its seaside holiday heritage. There are two beaches within easy reach, the popular back beach is just 50 yards away, where you can picnic on the sand/shingle with a barbecue, and toast with a beer from the shop which also host music some evenings. It’s only 0.3 miles to the sandy front beach which has the Victorian pier jutting out into the sea along part of the long sandy beach with stunning views over the English Channel. The popular town offers plenty of traditional fish and chip shops, fine seafood restaurants, the Grand Victorian Pier, an outdoor swimming pool and attractions and amusements.
The charming, neighbouring village of Shaldon can be accessed by ferry. Teignmouth, cocooned between the sea and the Teign Estuary, provides the perfect base for exploring South Devon by road, rail or by boat. It is a stop along the Riviera Line, a coastal railroad that runs between Paignton and Exeter. This rail route is something that must be enjoyed when visiting the town and offers some spectacular views. The train offers easy accessibility to the beautiful city of Exeter, home to an architecturally intricate cathedral, and unique shops.
Just a short car journey from Teignmouth is Dartmoor National Park with tors, historical sites and ancient woodlands to explore. Teignmouth is also linked to the moors by the Templar Way, an 18-mile walking route, which traces the journey that Haytor granite would historically make when exported from Dartmoor. Once you’ve completed your sightseeing, return to Beachside for a relaxing evening. Beaches are 50 yards 175 yards.
