Unique and fantastic option in Southern Vermont!!!

We were fortunate enough to stay in the Viking House for a seasonal rental this winter. We loved the stay and would highly recommend it and can’t wait to come back! Thanks to Malcolm and Dana- you guys made our stay even more special. Londonderry is a great location- 20 minutes from Okemo, 20 minutes from Stratton, 10 minutes from Bromley and 5 minutes from Magic. The house is on a relatively main road, so plowing is good in winter, but traffic is light. There is a grocery store, hardware store (really an everything store) and a couple restaurants less than 5 minutes away. The house is located on a Nordic center which has awesome trails for cross country and snowshoe and when there is no snow, Great for walks/ hiking. Also the house is a 15 minute walk from Lowell Lake State Park and walking along Boynton Rd was nice as well. The walks in the area made it really nice with a dog. Our dog loved it up there- she loved all the wildlife and the windows were low enough for her to look out which made her very happy. The house- the house is as it looks in the pictures. The fireplace is deep which is nice and the wood shed is literally attached to the living room making it easy to throw another log on the fire. The place has pretty much everything you need. There are views of Stratton from the dining room and one of the bedrooms. The internet is great as we worked remotely all winter with no issues. There is a smart TV and cable box in the living room. There are two nice bedrooms with en-suite baths, a smaller bedroom with a double bed and then a kids room with one bunk bed and two more singles. The furniture in the living room is nice and we loved the live edge dining room table. My wife loved the wood burning stove which gave her a little extra heat by where she was working. Charm disclaimer (the place we got married at used that term to make sure guests were aware that the place is not perfect)- this is an older house and there are some funky aspects. For example, there are no closets in the bedrooms. There are hooks to hang clothes and such, but don’t expect a closet. There are also a few doors that go nowhere. This is not a 2020 construction with great huge windows- it is as the pictures show and we loved it. Caretakers are Amazing- shout out to Malcolm and Dana!!! They are amazing and really go above and beyond to welcome you and get you everything you could possibly need.

Very impressed with property

Had a very enjoyable trip - the House was very nice and description on site was spot on. very clean , well equipped kitchen . plenty of room. Great location also but a quiet road but quick and easy access to Londonderry. And Dana and team were excellent managers making the pre-visit , check-in and checkout very easy. If I have a couple of small issues they were - no bathroom on 1st floor so it was a pain to go upstairs when watching TV - and also the cable TV is 'basic' cable so the number of channels is very limited - good job I had my laptop to get my FoxNews fix. But minor quibbles. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful Farmhouse

We escaped the city after almost four months of quarantine because of the coronavirus and had a wonderful and relaxing time here. The farmhouse is similar to what I remember from growing up in Norway and fit our needs perfectly; we were four adults and a toddler and could have added more people. We spent most of the time on the property because of the toddler and enjoyed the outside space, especially the large deck, as well as the spacious and well-appointed living area on the first floor. Dana, the property manager, was very helpful with many ideas and suggestions and responded immediately to our messages. We'll be back!

Farmhouse Family Ski Vacation

A bit of the old ways of Vt. This red farmhouse at a nordic xc ski center is where a family can get outdoors and then gather for dinner and games at the end of the day. The family run house and business keeps to the tradition of enjoying nature in the mountains.

Snowshoe Running Weekend

I rented the Farmhouse for a Snowshoe Running weekend and it proved to be the perfect spot. The Farmhouse was clean (as clean as you can get an old Farmhouse:), cozy and had everything we needed. Everything was labeled clearly and everything from check-in to check-out went very smoothly. I really appreciate that we had access to the Viking Nordic Center Trails as part of our stay. I would highly recommend this property and would definitely book again. Thank you for the warm welcome!

Viking Weekend

Dana was responsive, helpful, and accommodating. The property was clean and comfortable. Spacious enough for a group of friends to visit and relax. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate for skiing, but we enjoyed the snowshoe trails and playing board games by the fireplace. My only complaint stems from having a young toddler - outlet covers and baby gates on the stairs would have allowed me to relax more. Luckily we brought one gate with us - two more would have been helpful. That said, definitely would visit again!

Great Stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at the barn! The location to the trails (right there!) and the ski rental (right there!) made our cross country skiing dreams come true. It was a cozy house. A perfect Vermont country vibe. Thanks Dana and Malcom!

Great house and property

We stayed end of August with two kids, grandparents, and our dog. The house and property are very well maintained. We had a great time. The house was great for hanging out, cooking, eating, watching TV, playing games and the property was great for getting fresh air by sitting out front or walking on the trails behind the house. This time of year (Aug) you don't want to go out at dusk or later because of the bugs but we enjoyed the mornings and afternoons! Lowell Lake State Park is very close and a beautiful place to walk/hike. The kids also enjoyed going to Bromley Fun Zone (I think that's what it's called) which was also very close by. We would recommend this house as a great place to stay. We would love to come back in the fall and the winter!

Perfect getaway

We had a wonderful time! The farm house and grounds around it were beautiful. The dogs had room to run and have fun. The grand-kids enjoyed it as well. Each day we visited a different hiking trail or state park. We never traveled over an hour. We loved the area and the weather. We loved it so much we started looking at local real estate for sale. If you are a skier, this location is great. There are 4 or 5 ski areas close by and if you cross country ski you just need to go out the back door.

A charming country farmhouse.

We had a great stay. Be aware that it has 3 bathrooms, but all are on the second floor. Not a problem unless someone has arthritis... Dana was a big help and even set up a Christmas Tree for us! We'd go back again.

Stunning

Without a doubt, Viking Center is my favorite winter getaway in Vermont. This is my second visit and our group enjoyed it even more than the initial stay. The house is roomy, comfortable and perfectly located for a variety of activities.... walk out the door to lovely x-country skiing and snow shoeing, take a run down the road (saw a moose yesterday), take a short drive into Londonderry for a delightful cafe/natural foods deli and nearby yoga, or visit the surrounding towns. The hosts, Dana and Malcolm, are charming, readily available to answer any questions and have taken great care of the house and ski trails. We can't wait to return. Thanks Dana and Malcolm.

Very comfortable farmhouse right on the cross country trails and close to many downhill areas

Although we had little snow for our "ski vacation" we made the most of our stay. The host was very generous with trail use and equipment use even though the center was not open. We enjoyed the spacious, clean, comfortable house and made the most of our time. We explored Lowell Lake State Park and even visited Hildene. We look forward to our next visit to the Viking House.

Family Reunion

We rented both the farmhouse and the apartment for three days in August. It was so convenient for us to attend our family reunion being held in Weston, VT. Everything we needed was right at our fingertips in both the farmhouse and the apartment. The younger people stayed in the farmhouse and the seniors had the apartment, which was perfect. We will definitely come back next year. Dana was very cooperative and attentive to our needs. Thank you Dana. Carol and Larry Stewart

Love this place

This is the third time we've stayed here for a week-long rental in the summer--obviously our three-generational family loves this place! It's well-maintained, with a great downstairs layout so we can spread out, and a dining room table large enough to fit all of us at mealtime. The grounds are beautiful, and spacious, and the road is blessedly quiet. The location is convenient to many local activities too, including Hapgood Pond and Lowell Lake which have become family favorites. Coming back feels like home!

Nostalgic farmhouse

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful farmhouse. The grounds and setting were gorgeous! The house itself was reminiscent of my great grandmothers farmhouse and couldn't have been better, clean and everything we needed. Londonderry was perfect with wonderful restaurants and plenty of fun, family friendly activities. Lowell Lake state park is a must see... Absolutely gorgeous and everything one thinks is Vermont ! We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to head back!

Great place to stay for our ski trip to Okemo

The house is great and cozy. We had a comfortable stay for two days for our trip to Okemo Mountain (about 25 minutes drive). We kept the house clean before we left so the damage deposit was fully refunded as promised. Our host is very responsible. We exchanged a couple of emails before to assist our arrival. There were three bathrooms for eight of us, which was very convenient. I would definitely recommend this house!

Peace and Quiet At The Old Nordic Farmhouse

We truly enjoyed our Columbus Day week -long vacation while staying at this beautiful farmhouse (October 2015). True to its online description and pictures, it is clean and cozy. The promise of much needed peace & quiet was delivered via our stay at the Nordic Farmhouse~ very limited traffic on the road. If you are looking for privacy, you cannot beat this spot. Aside from the 3 cows living across the street and one visitor cat in the backyard, we didn't see another soul while on the property. That was the only disappointing part of our stay; one perfect black cat, seated with her (or his) back to the kitchen window, looking toward the frog pond, surrounded by beautiful fall leaves ~ I went for my camera and she (OR he) was gone. Dana and Malcolm were great! They were responsive - we heard back from them regarding our rental inquiry in less than 24 hours and they responded just as quickly to subsequent emails answering additional questions we had about Nordic Farmhouse. Dana and Malcolm also made themselves accessible in that they provided several means of contacting them in the event that we needed something during our stay. We recommend the Farmhouse for couples and/or families and would easily stay there again. I hope someone gets that picture of the cat.....
