Carla Perez is a Superhost

This property is truly remarkable. It is a converted mill and is charming , comfortable and spacious. The dining area offers great views of the mill stream and surrounding forest. It is 25 minutes from Segovia, a city well worth visiting. Carla Perez is an excellent host. She and I shared a number of emails before our stay. As Americans we knew it would be very difficult to eat according to the Spanish late night dinner schedule, especially since we were traveling with a nine month old baby. Carla was able to arrange a cook for us. Miryam was a splendid cook and so her dinners formed one of the highlights of our trip. She was very welcoming upon our arrival and gave us a thorough orientation. She kindly offered to take us on a tour of Segovia. For the whole stay she remained easy to get in touch with when we sought her advice

Such a unique place ❤️

This house is so special. You can feel the history in every room, and still feel like you’re staying in a stylish, modern home. Carla was highly available to us and even recommended one of the best restaurants we visited in the area. It’s not the easiest place to get to, it’s in the middle of nowhere, but it’s so worth it.

Magnificent house in lovely country setting

We had a wonderful time here. The house is spacious and simple but elegant. There are delightful toys for children. The creek is lovely for children to play in. There is a swimming hole too. It is 8 kilometers to the nearest village and 25 minutes to Segovia. We had a great meal at a hotel only 2 minutes away. The house is very pleasant even in the hottest weather. Carla is helpful and very nice. It is tranquil to sit on porch and listen to creek. Highly recommended.

Estancia Maravillosa

What a find!....the perfect escape

You rent a property primarily for the house; the surrounding acreage, the siting, sure, many factors influence a decision, but mainly you’re drawn to the residence, the place where you’ll hang your hat. At El Molino de Penarrubias, you step inside a former mill (and stable and farmhouse) that has been transformed into an immense and fascinating rental. How the owners took a mill in ruins and turned it into a beautifully appointed experience for travelers new to north-central Spain is a feat of ingenuity, vision and endurance. The kitchen sits above the rushing mill channel, a huge space perfect for gathering while dinner comes together. We took full advantage, cooking about half our meals there. The main room (and former barn) is easily one of the largest spaces I’ve inhabited, punctuated by a freestanding fireplace. The early-autumn evenings had enough of a bite to them to justify building fires in September. Plus, gathering kindling gives you the perfect excuse to wander the property, situated on the Rio Piron, with a working (albeit quiet) farm and its adjoining fields behind the house and the lush green ribbon of the small river valley before it. The water was too cold for us to take advantage of the swimming hole a short walk away, but the property is threaded with trails leading along the river to another mill, in the state of ruin El Molino must have been in when the owners first came across it, and a network of paths and roads leading to abandoned farms and small hill towns. On the way back from Torreiglesias, we broke off onto the trail running along the Piron and came right to our back porch. Perfection. The proprietor, Carla, is the rarest of owners, much more than that, rather an extraordinary guide, resource and emissary. Without being asked, over the week she served as concierge, translator, even personal assistant when we experienced car-rental problems. It was good luck that normally independent travelers crossed paths with the right person when it came time to explain tire-pressure and front-sensor problems to a mechanic. El Molino sits at the heart of what proved to be a perfect week. For adventurous travelers, for those in search of the unique, for those convening a good-sized group or in search of the perfect family-reunion site, this is a true find, a magical rental, and a rare opportunity to stay in a sprawling, beautifully converted and furnished millhouse and on a working Spanish farm.
