Resting in the popular town of Wooler, on the fringes of the National Park and Cheviot Hills is St Cuthberts Retreat. This charming cottage is ideal for a small family or couple wanting to enjoy a peaceful getaway within easy reach of the rugged hills and rolling countryside of the National Park. The kitchen/dining room is well-equipped with all the appliances you could wish for during your self-catered stay. There are also ground floor facilities which include a good-size double shower room. The sitting room boasts inviting sofas, the ideal place to relax and unwind during an evening in front of the fire with a great book from the owners’ book shop next door or with a film on the TV.
Head upstairs to catch up on rest in one of two spacious bedrooms; a master double and a twin both offer plenty of storage space for your belongings. Make your way to the rear of the property along a short lane to the enclosed rear garden, accessed up steps where you and your and four-legged friends can run freely as you sit out in one of the seating areas overlooking the pond with a glass of wine and enjoy the best of the summer sun.
Known locally as ‘the gateway to The Cheviots’ Wooler is a delightful, historic market town on the banks of the River Till, one of the tributaries of the Tweed, nestling in the foothills of the Cheviots which form part of the Pennine Way. There is a good selection of hotels and eating places to enjoy including The Doddington Milk Bar, which offers an opportunity for you to dine for breakfast and lunch or indulge in one of their array of sweet treats and of course the famous Doddington Dairy ice cream. To the east is the magnificent coastline of Northumberland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with great trips to be had to Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Seahouses harbour, or the birdwatcher’s paradise of The Farne Islands. Situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Wooler is just a short drive away from the historic town of Alnwick with its famous Castle and Gardens, and the well-preserved Garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Chillingham Castle with its ancient herd of wild white cattle and Coldstream, just over the Scottish border, are also a short drive away.
