About this property

Waterfront comfort & quiet, 200' private beach, overlooks miles of lake

Sited on a bluff above 200’ of private beach, in a peaceful setting among tall pines. Spectacular views can be seen from a big deck, screen porch, and nearly every room, including the kitchen. There is wonderful swimming in crystal clear water, and a dock with mooring (through August) - bring your boat (up to 20') or rent nearby! The Great Room has a cathedral ceiling and huge dining table. There are four good-sized bedrooms, 2 on each floor, with comfortable beds, and a loft with a desk. Split bathrooms accommodate simultaneous use and each bedroom has its own sink. Amenities include linens and towels, washer/dryer, gas grill, TV/DVD player, and internet.
The kitchen has a Jenn-Aire cooktop with griddle, double wall ovens, microwave, large French-door refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, dishwasher, garbage disposal, toaster, coffee maker, and blender. It is separated from the dining area by a counter that has 4 stools on the dining side. The walk-in pantry off the kitchen also houses the washer and dryer. A large screen porch opens off the great room, via wide French doors that can be left open to bring the outdoors in, and connect to the 14' x 45' open deck facing the lake. A covered porch off the kitchen shelters a large gas grill, and access to a clothes line for hanging out wet bathing suits and towels.
Baths are designed so no one has to wait. First floor bath has two sinks, with a separate room for the toilet. An extra-long tub with a shower is also in its own room. Upstairs each bedroom and the loft has its own sink. The upstairs toilet and shower are each in their own room. Hot water is from an 80 gallon tank, oil-fired for quick and long-lasting hot water.
There is high speed internet, but no cable TV. There is an analog converter that gets several channels on the TV, and a DVD player. A Roku is hitched up to the TV that can access whatever channels you get at your home, by connecting through your home cable provider, as well as online providers like Netflix and Hulu. An HDMI cable is available for hitching the TV to your laptop. There are cards, board games, and puzzles in the coat closet, too.
There is parking for four vehicles. There are four shallow stairs leading to the entry porch, but from there the main floor of the house and all it's decks and porches would be accessible to someone unable to use stairs. There are 12 stairs down from the deck to the ground on the lake side, and 44 stairs from there to the beach, built in 3 sets that are broken by 2 landings, each with a built-in bench. The house is not air conditioned, but it's rarely needed; the elevated location catches every breeze and every room has a fan. For cold weather guests: house is heated and well insulated.

An amazing stay.

Such a great house. It was my husband myself and 3 other couples. We were able to relax and hang out all together in the house and on the great deck. Steps weren’t our favorite but weren’t horrible. Pam was amazing to work with. We can’t wait to go back next year. Thanks Pam for a great stay.

Great week!

We had a fantastic week at this house! The views are amazing and it was exactly what we were looking for. The steps to the beach aren't for everyone but it didn't bother us. I would highly recommend this property to rent.

Wonderful getaway

The house was amazing.! Set right on the lake, it was a tranquil spot, perfect for day trips into Freeport, Portland and the surrounding area. It was also perfect for quiet moments reading or enjoying the sounds of nature all around. The house was equipped with everything we needed to cook for ourselves, have movie nights or sit around talking until all hours of the night. I highly recommend this house and host!

Heavenly week on the Lake

Perfect place to enjoy with family. First of all, killer view! The house had everything we needed, including a dock and mooring. the water was perfect - Our three year old grandson never wanted to stop swimming! Kitchen worked well for preparing meals. And we made great use of the screen porch for cocktail hour. With all the glass doors and windows, you never have to leave the lake, even if you are inside! Thanks, Pam and family!

Wonderful stay at Sebago

I had a wonderful stay at this property with my family (including two small children). The views are gorgeous and the lake is clean and wonderful to swim in. We loved the beach and the ability to moor the boat we rented. The house is clean, comfortable and well stocked. Pam is a responsive and thoughtful host. We hope to be back again in the future. Thanks Pam!

Fantastic House on a Fantastic Lake

I cannot say enough good things about our stay! We had 9 people, 6 adults and 3 little kids & there was tons of room, we never felt cramped. The living room had lots of comfy seating. The dining table was HUGE, the deck and beach had plenty of room to lounge. But my favorite was the screened in porch, especially once those mosquitoes came out. The house was very clean and exactly as described. Kitchen had tons of supplies and there was lots of room in the pantry for our food. The whole house opens up to enjoy that refreshing lake air! The owners love this property and it shows. They were very nice and showed us everything. There’s also family near by if there was any immediate need. This house and lake were the perfect setting for an amazing extended family vacation!!

We loved our stay at the yellow house! Perfect for families

We can’t say enough about our time here. We had two elders, 4 family members and two very happy kids all week. The house was great for all of us and included first floor bedrooms, which we needed. The kids played all day in the lake and my son had a great time fishing on Sebago. The deck was a wonderful place to gather and we enjoyed the screened-in porches at night. The kitchen was well- stocked and we didn’t want for anything. Naples was a short drive away and we enjoyed the Causeway as well. Would definitely rent again!

PERFECT cottage for any occasion

Wow, this cottage is superlative in every aspect. We had eight adults and two tiny persons (four families gathering from all over the country), the four bedrooms are large and perfect for all possible requirements, the kitchen is large and attractive and had everything imaginable that anyone would need, a room with washer and dryer and utility tub, dining table huge, living area so comfortable with many places to sit, the entire layout was amazing, the huge deck is to die for, the long stairs to the lake add to the charm and magical nature of the cottage's location, well made and sturdy and attractive, and just fun to look at and use. The shoreline is so pretty with the clear water and huge rocks and boulders scattered along the beach, the millions of rocks/pebbles to explore and find special ones, so picturesque. Located nestled far back from any noise, in the woods, so peaceful, but with other cottages nearby which adds a nice feeling of security. Many huge skylights let in amazing light and a ceiling that goes up incredibly high, such a beautiful home. The outside screened porch is so darling and welcoming. Bathroom areas are perfect for a gathering of people with the toilet areas separate from the sink areas, tubs and showers set up the same way. So very user friendly. The owners were so warm and responsive to all inquiries before and after our stay there. The supplies in all the closets and rooms had everything anyone would need. HIGHLY recommended. (A great restaurant is The Galley in Naples.) Libby Adams, Arlington, WA

Relaxation at it's finest.

The home is beautiful. It is very comfortable and invites you to just hang out and relax. We had plenty of room for everyone. Friends and family came to visit. We barbequed every night and played games before bed. Bring your favorite DVDs. I strongly recommend renting a boat from a nearby marina. Days were spent on the lake and evenings were spent at the house. Great Family Time!

About the host

Hosted by Pam Hine

Host profile image
My family and I live in Connecticut most of the year, where I teach at a local college. I grew up the child of a career naval aviator, and my summers in Sebago where a wonderful touchstone to counter frequent moves. My children are grown now and busy, but for them, too, it is the place we always come back to.

Why they chose this property

This house stands on land that was purchased by my great-grandfather in 1895, and he ran a summer camp here until the 1929. The old buildings that housed the boys' and girls' camps still stand, one to each side of our house and occupied by extended family. We decided to start renting the house because the taxes have become astronomical and we can't bear to sell it - spend even a short time here and you'll understand why.

What makes this property unique

The property is close enough to the fun of Portland and Freeport to make a trip easy, and just as close to world class hiking and scenery that can't be beat. It is an easy drive to the spectacular coast, but by being 15 miles inland, you will see more sun/less fog and temperatures that are usually considerably warmer in summer. The house itself is a joy to live in. I designed this house myself, starting with the kitchen sink and stovetop, which I placed so I could see the view and talk to friends and family while I worked there. Next came light (there had to be a lot) and air flow (cross ventilation to let in the breeze and the scent of the pines). Bedrooms and baths needed to accommodate plenty of guests, without them having to hear each other snore or needing to stand on one foot waiting for the bathroom. The view had to visible from everywhere. I particularly love to read while lounging in a chaise on the deck or screen porch. I like the wild thunderstorms that roil the lake and thrash the treetops as I watch from the loft. Probably best of all, I love to swim in the early morning, when the water's like glass and sun's warm on my back. It is a magical place.
