Excellent place to stay

Myself, husband and daughter stayed for 5 nights. We also brought the dog who loved his new home for the week. There is a nice garden to relax in and it was a comfortable stay. Shower not that powerful, but more than adequate for our needs. The welcome gifts that were left for us were lovely and a great touch. All round a wonderful stay and excellent value for money. We would recommend and would revisit.

Bolt Hole break

Wonderful holiday (apart from the rain), lovely cottage, but would have liked a shower as well as the bath. Great location. Nothing to fault, just perfect. Roll on 2024 so we can do it all again!

A good base for exploring North Norfolk but needs a refresh

I had a weeks stay here with my wife and six year old. The property had character and was located close to the seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer. Id say it was adequate in size for the three of us and well equipped. There was a decent sized garden with a lawn for me and my six year old to play games on. On the downside, the property was a bit grubby in areas and could do with some updating.

Bolt hole short stay

Excellent service when boiler shut down on heating. Shame about bathroom, no grab handles for bath and no shower facilities even over the bath. Very comfortable and convenient for Sheringham with enclosed garden for dogs.

Bolt hole. Winter break

We have used the Rookery farm cottage and camp site stays and have always been pleased with the service and conditions. Our only complaint is the bathroom in the Bolt hole. Access to the bath/shower for my partner is impossible due to her current disability. The bathroom desperately requires a revamp, please!!

Great place to get some down time and peace and quiet.

Located just close enough to walk to a couple of nice pubs with good food, can do some of the walk across the fields and extend/make loops across some fields which was lovely. House was clean with the exception of a few cobwebs, beds very comfy and had all the appliances you would expect/need. Parking limited to 1 car, unless you use the grass land near by, which was fine as we were there in the dry time so no issues parking, but could be an issue. Garden was secure for our dog who is not inclined to jump, it should be noted that the roadside walls are quite low and may be an issue for more energetic dogs.

Had a nice time but would not choose this cottage again because of disappointing level of comfort

Level of comfort disappointing for an award winning property - there doesn’t seem to be much insulation; when warm outside its also warm inside (same with cold wheather) - sofa and arm chair are so far gone you almost hit the floor - black mold on the bath very unhygienic! - water cooker and oven not clean (we didnt use them) - we really missed a walk-in shower

Not the best for Gold award.

Very good location really good for dogs and a safe garden. The cottage inside the furnishings ie Settee and chair very uncomfortable very small double bed and the bath which is a good size but had no hand holds to help when getting in & out which could be very dangerous especially for older people. The washing up brush wash a health hazard so we put it in the bin.

Disappointed

This was our 10th stay at this property and over the last few stays standards have dropped. This property is looking tired. The worktops are peeling, the sofa and chair are really uncomfortable,we had to put pillows n to sit on to get a certain degree of comfort. There is no rug on the floor which makes it cold..It needs a chest of drawers in the main bedroom. The hot water is scalding hot, a worry for any child that puts their hands under the tap.The cold tap in the kitchen had a constant drip, which was reported. The step down to the outside was dangerous for anyone with limited mobility,it needs raising. The hedge around the garden is dying giving it an unkempt look.In the holiday stays we have had at this property this was very disappointing.

Tiny property that needs a lot of money spent on it

Very nice hosts terry and tracy who manage the property but the reality is for four people this is a very cramped space, felt like a prison camp, badly designed, not enough light, fridge freezer is tiny so totally impractical, no food preparation spaces so he’s to self cater, equipment is all dated in the kitchen. Needs a total redesign as it is like living in a thin corridor, needs an extension to widen the property and money properly money spent on it Photos are very deceiving regarding its size.

bathroom

everything was clean and comfortable except for the bathroom. i know we were warned about no shower but not that the bath was so big and difficult to get out of for older people. also the shower fitment on the tap leaked and was useless. the whole bathroom is overdue for a revamp.Otherwise it was good. would not recommend this property to people unless the bathroom is sorted. Reading the visitor book confirmed what we thought.

Weekend stay

We had a lovely weekend stay at The Bolt Hole. It was the perfect size for two people and a dog and they’ve thought of everything you could possibly need in utensils, kitchen equipment etc. Really excellent. However saying that we stayed on a very rainy weekend and the bedrooms at either end of the cottage felt incredibly damp, so we had to keep the heating on as much as possible. The bedding even felt damp when you got into bed which was such a shame as the beds are incredibly comfortable. We also found lots of hairs in the bed which was a bit off putting. Some were obviously dog hairs but there were also long dark human hairs. So that does need paying attention to a bit more. Also the bathroom really needs an upgrade. It’s very old and again quite damp smelling. They’ve installed a new shower but the shower head doesn’t fit properly and sprays out of the bath. The bathroom is a lovely size, so could have a fantastic bathroom. Finally the garden. There is a lovely big front garden but it’s is certainly not secure. My dog jumped straight over the wall and into the road, just missing a car. So that is something to think about if you have a dog. So something things excellent, some in need of improvement.

Lovely holiday cottage

Lovely large cottage with enclosed garden for our dog. Comfortable bed already made with up with king-size quilt. Living area with comfortable sofa, kitchen area well equipped. Plenty of cupboard space. Garden has seating and table on grass lawn with good size hedge around for privacy. Parking space for one car on a country lane so little traffic noise. Easy access to all local beaches and 3 National Trust properties. This is our 4th visit to this property over the last 10 years and we love this Spring break with daffodils in the fields around us. We were lucky to get a week of sunshine.
