About this property

Avocet Lodge, Ingoldisthorpe, Norfolk

A fabulous contemporary cedar lodge in Ingoldisthorpe, with panoramic countryside and coastal views. The ultimate romantic bolthole for two or a peaceful escape for one. Over the winter months wonder at the sight and haunting sound of skeins of pink footed geese as they fly overhead and watch spellbinding seabird murmurations - all from the comfort of this superb lodge.

Constructed in 2020 and being one of just two detached Brickley Wood Lodges (neighbouring Ingol Lodge sleeps four) set high on the hill above the small village of Ingoldisthorpe. With beautiful boutique-style interiors and high end fixtures and fittings, you really will want for nothing - every little detail has been thought of to ensure you have the finest holiday. Just shake off your shoes, turn on the coffee machine, take a seat, relax and unwind in peaceful surroundings and simply take in the landscape above and below. The open-plan living area is spacious and light-filled with a smart fitted kitchen at the back of the room that overlooks the dining and sitting areas where there's a widescreen television to entertain, should you ever get tired of the endless view. From here double french doors lead out to an outdoor deck - this part of the North Norfolk coast unusually faces West and is the ideal place to watch as the sun sets on the Wash in its glorious technicolour. And, oh my goodness, the bedroom, dressing room and en-suite - sumptuous is the word, rather decadent, and actually very seductive too... dream on!

Ingoldisthorpe is a charming little village, just inland from the coast, and is perfect for immersing yourself in nature, birdwatching or biking along the national cycle route. Some of Norfolk's finest beaches, country houses, rural and coastal walks, and fine dining are all on the doorstep. The Coasthopper bus route runs through the village, and traverses the beautiful coast road.

A taste of luxury in Norfolk

Whenever we arrive at place new to us, we wonder what will be around the door! In this case, first impressions were little concerning as it look like a caravan park. We drove to the end and saw two lodges set well away and it just became better with each step. You park right outside the door making unloading easy. Plenty of lighting here. Bright, warm and tastefully decorated are the first impressions. Then you see that that the lounge has great views across fields and down to the sea (brilliant sunset by the way) and has a large sofa. The modern kitchen has all that is needed and came with dishwasher tablets for the stay, some supplies to get you started: coffee pods, biscuits, milk etc. Then you turn to the large bathroom, actually huge for a new building, complete with big tub and big walk in shower. Even large drawers so you can tidy away those bathroom bags.. Bedroom has a huge comfy bed, plenty of light and has slippers and bathrobes provided. They even have "normal" hangers rather than the thief proof one all too common. Barbecue tools were unused ; washing machine pristine. Outside, the deck wraps around two sides. It has two large recliners which are really comfortable. During our stay, the strong wind was cold and made walking unpleasant. Yet on the terrace, you could sit sheltered in the sun and sleep! Perhaps other wind directions would be less favourable. We appreciated the powerful heating when it was only a few degrees outside. The owning family are around and cheerfully helpful but not intrusive. Improvements? Main suggestion would be more crockery and cutlery. There is a set of 4 pieces basically which means that you need to run an pretty empty dishwasher ( or wash up) at least daily if you have meals in the lodge. Better eco practice would be less often. Perhaps the two bar stools could be removed as they sort of get in the way and are simply not needed.

A delightful short stay!

We stayed in this lodge from 11 to 15 April and were mightily impressed! It is in a convenient location off the main road, has a wonderful view down to the sea, and is very tidy, comfortable and well-furnished. The WiFi and facilities generally are excellent. We went out walking and were delighted to come back to this lodge every evening, such was its comfort! Thoroughly recommended.

A very comfortable base

We only had a short break at Avocet Lodge, but had nothing but a positive experience there. The lodge has lovely views, is stylishly fitted out and has all the things required for a comfortable stay. We would be happy to return.

Great view

The evening view of the sunset is amazing. Very quiet location. Very clean. A bit of a walk to shop or bus stop. Recommended to me by co-worker and I would definitely recommend it to others, but would not suit everyone.

Beautiful lodge, excellent location.

From the start, Avocet lodge did not disappoint. Being on top of the hill the view was amazing. It was lovely and warm to come back to after walking in the wind and rain. Could not fault it.

Super Comfy

Myself and my husband stayed here for 5 nights over the New Year. The lodge was immaculate. The bottle of prosecco, card and cookies was a lovely touch. It was great to watch some amazing sunsets from the lodge and see lots of birds. If you are looking for a quiet getaway this place is perfect. We enjoyed lots of lovely walks, and it was great to relax when we got back into the warmth of the cosy lodge. Highly recommend the Rose & Crown pub nearby for a meal.
