About this property

Historic Uzes - spacious 18th century townhouse with large, sunny terrace

Maison Théodorit is an elegant, 18th century townhouse located on a quiet, picturesque street in the historical centre of Uzès, close to the St Théodorit Cathedral with its famous 11th century Fenestrelle Tower. A lovely area with art galleries as neighbours, it is just a short walk along the beautifully restored, cobbled streets to numerous shops, cafes, restaurants and the colourful weekly market in the Place aux Herbes.

The property is 280m² in total over 3 floors with a private 80m² terrace on the second floor. It can either be rented as a whole to accomodate 10 guests (property reference 10340209) or as 2 independent apartments, each with its own street entrance, the larger one (with terrace) suitable for 6 guests (Maison Théodorit - property reference 10911202) and the smaller ground floor apartment for 4 guests (Petit Théodorit - see property reference 8234981).

The house has been beautifully renovated to expose the original stonework and beamed ceilings whilst providing all modern comforts.

Opposite the house is a wonderful footpath which passes the cathedral and Roman ruins down into the Vallée de l'Eure for a pleasant walk or picnic by the river. There is also a large, open air, municipal swimming pool as well as tennis courts less than 10 minutes walk away.

A great place to relax in one of the loveliest Gallo-Roman towns in southern France renowned as the first Duchy with its fine cathedral and 12th century buildings.

Maison Théodorit, the larger apartment of 180 m², consists of 3 double bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom on the 1st floor. The master bedroom opens onto a small patio. There is also an office/library, laundry room and separate WC on this floor. On the 2nd floor a spacious, bright reception room, with a typical stone open fireplace, leads onto the main terrace, well-equipped with dining and BBQ facilities. The spacious terrace has lovely open views whilst the surrounding buildings provide complete privacy. It is a wonderful place to dine, relax and enjoy the sunshine. The kitchen is fully equipped and conveniently located next to the main reception room.

Petit Théodorit (85m²), the spacious ground floor apartment, has a stunning, stone vaulted, split level, open plan main room that offers a living and dining area and the master bedroom area. Next to the bedroom area is a separate, full bathroom. Past the dining area is a fully equipped kitchen and passage way to the twin bedroom.

If rented together, the apartments are connected via an internal staircase. Both have separate entrances from the street.

This is a beautiful, well appointed and comfortable home located in the heart of Uzes

We just loved staying in Maison Theodorit. A beautiful and very large house perfectly located in a quiet street within the old town. Everything we needed was there. The bedrooms were large. The living area huge and with a enormous outside terrace. We spent many an hour enjoying the terrace! Breakfast around the table in the lovely old kitchen was a treat, and we spent many a lovely evening out on the Terrace. We couldn't recommend this lovely house more!

Perfect Location

Maison Theodorit lived up to our expectations. We were one couple and two single ladies. There was plenty of room for us all. An easy close walk to the centre of the village and convenient paid parking 50 metres away...only needed to pay for daylight hours and at a reasonable cost. The property was beautifully appointed and very clean. We spent our last night using the BBQ to make a delicious meal to eat on the terrace. We would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone wanting to experience Uzes in comfort. Hopefully we will return.

Maison Theodorit

A characterful and comfortable property in a great location. The outside large terrace is a great bonus. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues, I would say, as stone stairs from street into property and internal staircase from bedrooms on lower level up to kitchen and setting room. Uzes is a vibrant town with excellent and plentiful eateries and shops.

Perfect House in Uzes

We (my wife and I, two kids ages 5 and 8 and my father) stayed in Maison Theodorit for a week in July and it could not have been better. It was centrally located within the ring road and a very short walk to the main square (Place aux Herbes), but still quiet and secluded. It was incredibly spacious with a great patio where we ate all of our breakfasts and most of our dinners. The kitchen was perfectly functional and was even stocked with a few necessities (including a bottle of local Rose) when we arrived. The bedrooms were spacious and well appointed. The A/C worked great, which was important when we were there as the temperature was consistently in the 90s. The WiFi worked well and there was a large selection of English-language DVDs and books. Stephanie was very helpful and the guest book she prepared had a ton of useful information for Uzes and the surrounding area including great recommendations for restaurants, markets, activities and day trips. In short this was the easily the best place we stayed in our two months in Europe and we look forward to returning at the earliest opportunity.

Highly Recommended

We had a wonderful stay at Maison Theodorit. A very well appointed house, right in the centre of Uzes. The town has a real buzz and is well provided with lots of good shops and restaurants, as explained in the very comprehensive guide provided by Stephanie. The house has everything you could want, a spacious lounge, a lovely terrace, a well provided kitchen, comfortable beds and air conditioning. We are already planning our return.

A lovely place in a lovely town

This is the first rental that is much bigger than we anticipated from the photographs. Uzes is the nicest little town in France [that we have visited] and this house is located perfectly. Everything was exceptionally clean. The beds were very comfortable. The owner and the manager were great. Just a fantastic place to stay.

On a bien envie d'y retourner.

A Perfect Place

My wife and I rented this wonderful home in early October, and were joined by both of our grown children and their spouses. This is a truly magnificent and lovingly restored townhouse. The bathroom and kitchen fixtures are completely modern and up to date. It is located on a very quiet and very old, twisty, cobblestone street. The house is in excellent repair and has lovely furnishings. The outdoor patio is a large and wonderful place to have alfresco cocktails or dinner. The small, inner courtyard off the master bedroom is charming. The central living area is very large and completely comfortable, with lots of Michelin and other guidebooks. The "house guide" manual is exceedingly detailed, with everything you need to know about the house and the nearby area. The house is located within the walls of the old city of Uzes, with enchanting, curved streets and a beautiful central plaza with plane trees and an active market on Saturdays and Wednesdays (smaller). All essential services, including a large number of restaurants at a variety of price points, are within walking distance. There are quaint, close-by villages to visit on day trips. Stephanie was exceedingly helpful in locating taxi services for the long distance hauls to the Marseille and Montpelier airports and finding a chef to come to the house and cook a wonderful dinner for our anniversary. She is very prompt in responding to email inquiries. This is a perfect house, in a perfect town. I have had a number of rentals through HomeAway, both in the United States and abroad, and never had one as wonderful as this one.

11 Rue Théodorit, Uzès

Very classy, high quality accommodation close to the buzz and activity in the town centre, and within the historic core. 3 mins walk (within the pedestrianised zone) to the markets, shops restaurants and bars. Every day, every evening there seemed to be something going on. The house was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. Marie is a gem - very helpful and totally charming. No parking at the property, but easy for drop off and pick up. We took road bikes and kept them in the lower courtyard. There is paid parking within a minute or so walk from the property, but there are plenty of on-street parking spaces if you're prepared to walk a few minutes. No garden but a lovely large sunny courtyard/terrace with Oleander, Lavender and Olive and Cypress trees - perfect setting for a leisurely breakfast or for supper. Cooking facilities were excellent (we loved the induction hob). Excellent cycling countryside. We went out before breakfast before it got too hot and while the roads were clear. Good kayaking down the Gardon (we managed to cycle over the Pont du Gard one day and kayak under it the next). Other trips worth considering if you can tear yourself away from Uzès: Nîmes, Arles, Avignon, Les Baux - all very accessible by car. Also the amazing caves at Aven d'Orgnac, La Roque sur Cèze, and the Cascades du Sautadet, brilliant views from the Guidon du Bouquet, Lussan and the nearby concluses. We had a memorable stay and would recommend this property and this town to anyone. Expensive, but you get what you pay for.....

An ideal "South of France" experience

My family spent a week at this beautiful house in enchanting Uzes in June 2016. Everything about the experience exceeded our very high expectations. The house is open, airy, sunny and spotlessly clean. It reflects the medieval charm of Uzes while offering up-to-date amenities. It is located on a quiet, picturesque street in the heart of Uzes and is an easy walking distance to the many fine restaurants, shops and tourist attractions the city has to offer. The shopkeepers and restaurant staff were incredibly friendly and spoke very good English. Uzes is a perfect location from which to take day trips to the surrounding hill towns or to visit such famous tourist attractions as the ancient Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard, where you can swim, picnic, ride bikes, etc. This is a great house and location for the entire family. We definitely intend to rent this same house in the future and would highly recommend it to others.

Perfection in Uzes

We have been regular visitors to Uzes over the past decade and hired many villas / apartments over the years. Maison Theodorit was quite simply the best. It was perfectly suited for our family of 5 and large enough that we were able to include grandparents in our holiday plans. Both in indoor and outdoor space were elegant yet comfortable. The location is ideal for exploring the historic centre and enjoying the market in Place aux Herbes. We will come again!

Lovely home in UZES

My husband and I loved this vacation home. The home is even more lovely than the photos. The owner is gracious and very easy to work with. The property manager greets you upon arrival and shows you the features of this home. This property is spacious, clean, well maintained and beautifully and tastefully decorated. The bedding and linens are luxurious and top quality. The village of Uzes is delightful and very clean. The town is well equipped for tourists yet retains its authentic small French town local character. There are plenty of really good places to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you like to cook you will find everything you need. Uzes is a great location to explore the surrounding areas in Provence or north of Uzes by bike or car.

Charming apartment and lovely town!

This was our second visit to Uzès and we loved it as much as the first time. The town is small enough to be cozy but still big enough to have plenty of activity. The apartment is in a perfect location, quiet but very close to the main plaza where we enjoyed the cafés and people-watching. The accommodations are charming, very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. (Although if you can’t do steps, this may not be the right place.) We loved the apartment and had no problem at all with the steps. We were there with another couple and spent a lot of time hanging out in the spacious living room where we enjoyed our daily wine, bread, and cheese appetizers before dinner. You can’t beat the bread and cheese in France! We had a wonderful time in Uzès and the apartment at 11 Rue Théodorit was perfect for us!

Amazing home, perfect vacation!

I am embarrassed I took so long to write this review...with two young children, some things take a little longer! We stayed at this beautiful home in Uzes in July 2014 with our two boys (ages 1.5 and 4 at the time) and my parents. Everything was perfect. We could not have found a better location to enjoy the gorgeous and very child-friendly town of Uzes. Everything was right outside our door, and easily accessible with a brief walk. We had a car, and we had no trouble finding parking nearby. Our children absolutely loved running around on the many pedestrian-only streets. The house itself is perfectly fitted out. I can be a bit picky when it comes to furnishings and decor, but I was impressed! The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, the bathrooms are modern and lovely, the kitchen is well-equipped--we cooked at home sometimes in the evening (with gorgeous fresh vegetables and fish from the local markets), the living spaces are perfect for gathering and relaxing, and the terrace is stunning! All were child-friendly. There are stairs leading up to the flat, and it is on two levels, but our children had no issues going between them. We had a stroller with us, and it was no problem to take it down to the street. Uzès has a nice central location -- we took many small trips to nearby areas -- yet still seems blissfully off of the radars big bus tours (except for market day!) I think the best complement to the property and Uzes is that, one year later, we are STILL talking about what a wonderful time we had and what a magical place this is. We really hope to come back again soon.

Our favourite.

My spouse, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter just returned from beautiful Uzès. It was the fifth visit for the two of us to this remarkable little town and our second stay at 11 Rue Théodorite. Needless to say we love both town and home. The town is quintessentially 'South of France' from cafés to boulangeries marchés and charme. The town dispells any of the myths regarding French lack of warmth forever. The home is in the best location possible with the centre at the doorstep and unlike most 'town houses' has a magnificent view. The terrace is privately divine for outdoor dinners or just an afternoon snooze on the hamock. Spotlessly clean with every comfort it is a 5 star or perhaps luxxus accommodation. The owners and property manager are very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with.

A truly lovely place to stay

Extremely spacious, and everything is beautiful, comfortable, and of very high quality. Wonderful location as well. The main outside deck is fabulous. Uzes itself is a wonderful small town, with a welcoming main square, good restaurants and shopping, and an artistic orientation (lots of small studios for pottery, painting, etc.).

Absolutely fabulous

The house was everything we could have hoped for. The location is perfect: a quiet street just a few minutes from the centre of Uzes. The house is larger, grander and more beautiful than the website pictures. It is incredibly well equipped. We ate in most evenings and the kitchen was perfect. We were two sets of grandparents, the parents and 4 month old Max. The lovely, and huge, Terrace was excellent for pushing a buggy around until baby was asleep. It was also perfect for drinks in the evenings while the rooks and starlings danced and chattered their way to bed. It was warm enough to sit out during the day and early evenings, but we really appreciated the heating coming on a couple of evenings, especially in the bathrooms. Marie was extremely helpful and accommodating and the house spotlessly clean. We cannot recommend Maison Theodorit enough.

YOU MUST STAY HERE!!

This was the best accommodation we had in all of our 10 weeks in Europe! Quiet, but central location, situated in a wonderful town that was absolutely charming. Great shops, unlimited choice of restaurants and fabulous markets on Saturday and Wednesday. Uzes is a town that is big enough to potter around in but still with a wonderful village atmosphere. There are also plenty of day trips that you can do in the areas close by. We stayed a week and wished it was longer! The apartment was spotless, with every effort made to make us comfortable. Large comfortable beds, modern and functional bathrooms, a luxurious lounge room and a kitchen that was well stocked with all equipment. Everything you could wish for was there and the courtyard at the back was delightful - in fact the photo does not really do it justice. The owners clearly wanted us to feel at home - and we did! I would not hesitate in recommending this to friends etc. FABULOUS!

Uzes Gem

Great house in the most historic street in Izes! If you are planning to visit Uzes (which I would recommend) and are looking for a place to yourself, this is a great choice. We stayed there as a couple which meant we had lots of space to ourselves (the house has three bedrooms and bathrooms). The house lacks for nothing - it is well located, beautifully decorated, generously equipped and very comfortably furnished. The outdoor terrace adds to it considerable charm and provides a great space for outdoor living and dining. The very positive reviews that appear elsewhere for this property don't overstate the quality of this property - we have stayed in a number throughout Europe and this one is particularly good. The owners are obviously committed to providing travelers with a luxury experience and this property delivers that experience effortlessly. Thank you Andrea and Charles

11 Rue Théodorit, Uzès

Our stay at Théodorit was more than outstanding. The house is as beautiful if not more beautiful than the pictures. The terrace is a paradise, the furnishings exceptional, the location as good as it gets with a view to the valley and a charming medieval home across the street. You walk a few minutes along cobble stone streets between 16th or 17th century town homes to Place-Aux-Herbes where in the centre you are in the real France with children and dogs playing arround a fountain and with cafés and restaurants of quality in a most 'agréable' surrounding. The people are such that any remaining thoughts of the old myth that the French are snooty will vanish immediately The home and the town are beyond charming and comfortable. We recommend it without question. Elizabeth and David Leigh, Toronto, Canada
