Very unreliable host
When we arrived to the property, the host, who lives in the same building, blamed VRBO for not letting her know about our reservation. She indicated that the apartment wasn’t cleaned. She tried to give us a Studio instead. When we didn’t accept the downgrade, she told us to come back an hour later (at 10 pm) to give her time to clean the apartment. We went to a supermarket to buy groceries, leaving our luggage with her.
When we came back, at about 10:30 pm, she changed her story. She said that she had written to us suggesting a date change. However, in reality, she never did. When we asked her to show us the message she had supposedly sent us, she obviously couldn’t find it because she never had sent it. In fact, she had confirmed the reservation, even giving us detailed arrival instructions. After that didn’t work, she then said that the apartment we had booked wasn’t available because another guest had decided to extend his stay and therefore he had not vacated it. She couldn’t, after all, honor our reservation.
Given that was the case, we wondered why she had sent us send us to the store to buy groceries. In addition to our luggage, we now had a whole bunch of stuff we had brought in from the grocery store.
To her credit, she let us stay in the efficiency for free that night (it was 11:30 pm by then) and refunded our money. We were left scrambling the next day to find alternative accommodations.
