About this property

La Loggia; Villa in hidden Umbria, with large pool and spectacular views

With its original stone walls, beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, La Loggia is a very appealing place to spend a holiday, and great care has been taken in its restoration. The living room is part of the ancient foundations of the house, with a lovely divan literally gouged out of the rock and scattered with cushions. The kitchen has all modern appliances, including dishwasher and washing machine, but retains plenty of original features and is furnished in traditional style. The master bedroom is a lovely airy room with a four-poster bed and beautiful hand painted furniture. It has restful views out across the hills and valleys. The second bedroom, a twin, is light and attractive, with French windows which open on to similar views. The bathroom is large and inviting, with original stone walls and hand painted tiles around the separate bathtub and shower unit. Outside, a pretty terrace overlooking the pool offers the perfect place for breakfast, lunch or a pre-dinner drink.

Fantastisch vakantie vieren

Beautiful views, far off the beaten path
The pictures cannot even do the property justice—the view from the windows and pool are among the most beautiful I have seen. The apartment itself is rustic but comfortable, clean and well appointed with beautiful stone walls and nice rooms. Clare was very helpful both when I got lost trying to arrive (hint: use the directions that she provides, do NOT rely on Google maps because it is very imprecise in the region) and in making us a lovely dinner reservation. Do be aware that the property is quite remote, GPS is spotty, and you may hear noise from the apartment or house above. Otherwise a lovely stay.

Beautiful house in rough Umbria with magnificent pool and great view.
Beautiful house in Umbria with great hospitality of Clare and Mario. Although the apartment is pretty small for 4 (with hardly any kitchen space to cook), the pool and views are worth the stay.

Idyllic Hide Away
This is our 3rd stay and definitely won’t be our last. Love the peace and quite and the perfect place to relax, unwind and re-charge the batteries. Sleeping with windows wide open and waking up to bird song and Umbrian sun, bliss. You will definitely need a car to reach. Fantastic pool Clare and Mario are fantastic hosts, super friendly and on hand to advise of places to eat and visit. If you want to get away from it all with total peace and relaxation this is the place for you

Simply delightful
This was my first visit to San Mamiliano and I absolutely loved it. It is the ideal place to chill out and enjoy the stunning scenery. Although hidden away up winding country lanes it is close to good local restaurants and Spoleto. The sound of birdsong is wonderful, the views breathtaking and there were so many beautiful butterflies in the pretty garden. The villa itself is spacious, comfortable and full of rural charm. Clare and Mario are the perfect hosts and ensured that all our needs were taken care of. I definitely want to visit again!

Beautiful site: the perfect place to slow down
This was not our first vacation in Italy, but this lovely home with many unique features was a great base to discover medieval towns and villages. It's in a small village just a few miles from a highway going to Spoleto, about 10 miles away, and Assisi. Some days we planned walks in the hills, looking for wild asparagus, enjoying mountains flowers. A riding stable nearby offers day rides into the mountains, with luscious lunch. A highlight of our stay was a cooking lesson with a local chef who taught us how to make ravioli. We plan to come back in the fall to see the colors of autumn and sample new wine and the local olive oil.

Secluded with fabulous mountain views
A beautiful stone character house, tucked into the Umbrian hills. Divine views, from every window and hectares of land surrounding with wild flowers, natural landscape and privacy. A superb 14 th century village a few doors from here, total population 14 people delights with the church bells ringing on the hour from 7 am. Magical! There are huge fireplaces for the cool winters but a fabulous pool for the summers. Two apartments give space for four couples or more and two kitchens, if required are perfect for the keen chef. We ate at several local trattorias and osterias for not only super food but excellent prices. There are many varied ristorante to choose from. A memorable stay, a true Italian style villa with comfort, charm and character and unforgettable views! Sue and Glenn Barnes Hendra QLD Australia

Bob-Jan Dietrich

Gorgeous villa!! Highly recommended
This was our second stay at this wonderful villa in hidden Umbria, and it was just as fantastic as we remembered it from our visit 2 years ago. The villa is beautiful and is kept really clean. We arrived really late but there was a food pack waiting for us so we just opened a bottle of wine and sat out on the terrace and relaxed straight away!!! The area is just stunning and we loved all the local restaurants in the area. Also had a great day at La Somma for an impressive track thorugh the mountains with good forward horses. We loved our stay, thank you Claire and Mario for you hospitality and good care. We will be back for a 3rd visit soon next year! With warmest regards, Stephanie

Italian Love
What a beautiful place to stay! A place, fulled with love for human & nature. Reading my book at the pool and I found it hard to concentrate because of the spectacular views over the mountains. The place is near lovely old villages and near Spoleto. Everything is taking care of and Clare is an excellent guide. She knows all the right spots, restaurants, musea and other things which made our stay excellent. We will back, that's for sure!!!!!

A very attractive house set in a peaceful setting
Having read Clares book "Chickens eat pasta" it was all the more exciting to visit San Mamilliano. A comfortable place to stay, very clean and tidy. Essentials like sugar and olive oil, washing up liquid etc already there, so sensible. Very quiet and enjoyed the company of Clare and Mario very much. They were very attentive and able to tell us where to visit. Clare also arranged a delightful 3 hour horse ride in the mountains above Spoletto with stunning views. The swimming pool is beautiful and large and is always spotless. BBQ available and outdoor tables available to enjoy eating outside. I was very refreshed when I left and sad to go.

Perfect peace
Is this the most perfectly peaceful place to holiday? It certainly seems like it. The idyllic beauty and quiet is awesome and wonderful to relax, read and dip into the pool. And then you are in the middle of what seems an endless series of amazing mountainside villages, to sightsee and eat wonderful food at ridiculously low prices. Yes, perfect

Prijs/Kwaliteit buitenproportioneel

Met our needs perfectly
Helpful, flexible, generous yet unobtrusive hosts. Brilliant setting if you want peace and quiet. Beautiful brilliant and buzzy birds bats and bees. Pool larger than average - really set the place apart. Would go again.

A fabulously unique and tranquil Umbrian property
After an easy flight and drive from Rome airport we arrived an the fantastic village of San Mamilliano. From a practical point of view, the location of the property was ideal for our two families who wanted a beautiful, relaxing and therapeutic place to unwind but also somewhere conveniently located for exploring the many local and varied attractions. We ended up dividing our time between lazing by the ample and fabulous pool which overlooked the unspoiled hills of Umbria and exploring nearby lakes, mountains and some of the world's most famous historic towns, but tearing ourselves away from our sunny and peaceful oasis was never easy! After our first barbeque, which even included cooking on the amazing outdoor pizza oven, we all laid out in the perfect darkness by the pool and watched an amazing display of shooting stars. We visited so many magical places including Assisi and Spoleto and even experienced an extremely civilised white water rafting trip that we and our young children adored. Wonderful, local, family run Umbrian restaurants were in abundance and were easily found thanks to our hosts Claire and Mario, who's local knowledge and helpful suggestions meant that we were never short of ideas for exciting excursions. We can't wait to return again later this year. John and Caroline Morgan

An Umbrian idyll
This was the perfect holiday. We could laze by the pool with the glorious Umbrian mountains as a backdrop while popping back to our apartment for a drink or some lunch. San Mamiliano is central for exploring Spoleto, Perugia and Assissi, and we over-nighted in Sienna. Clare and Mario were friendly and helpful hosts. We will definitely be returning

Our best ever family holiday
I stayed here with my family for a memorable week in september. Everyone agreed it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. The property is beautiful the views are quite stunning and the pool is a really lovely one. Cooking pizza in the poolside pizza oven was a lot of fun. The hosts are very helpful and the atmosphere extremely friendly . We shall be coming back this year.

Enchanted farm with large panorama pool
Once we found the property it surpassed our wildest expectations. The place is positively enchanting. View is breathtaking, especially considering you take it in from the (large) pool. The appartment, if compact, was very comfortable. The owners, Claire and Mario, were delightful and we profited much from their in-depth knowledge of the region and splendid restaurants in the vicinity- and their proficiency at baking pizza's in the outdoor oven and being wonderful people in general. San Mamiliano is not the easiest place to locate, but once there, you'll appreciate the tranquillity, beauty and comfort. All that, and Rome, Assisi, Spoleto and countless other treasures an hour or less away. This was the best place we've ever holiday'd in in Italy. We spent two weeks there and felt we could have stayed much longer. Thoroughly recommended but then again don't go. You'll only occupy a place we'd want for ourselves. Brill!
