Enjoying a peaceful spot next to the river Great Ouse and dating back to the late 1800s, Jasmine Cottage was originally the Lock Keeper’s house and has been lovingly restored to offer a stylish and period appropriate accommodation with all the modern conveniences needed for a lovely holiday. Jasmine sits on an acre of land including a large garden and orchard.
Beautifully appointed throughout, it boasts two bathrooms, a wood burner, an AGA range cooker and patio doors leading onto a large, private garden where you will even find yourself sharing this idyllic location with free-roaming chickens whose fresh eggs you can have at breakfast In fact, keep your eyes peeled as you are sure to spot lots of wildlife in the grounds including sweet little Mountjac deer. The orchard has 35 fruit trees including apple plum pear cherry greengage mulberry and quince together with raspberry and black currant bushes. The garden is perfect for relaxing in when the weather is too good for sitting in front of the lovely wood burner. Just sit under the weeping willow tree with a good book relax and unwind and you will find it easy to lose yourself in the pages within this tranquil retreat.
But if you’d like to get out and about and explore the area, you will find a great deal to see and do, whichever direction you choose to head in. You can be at the beach in less than 40 minutes and explore the sand dunes at Heacham or experience a traditional seaside resort in Hunstanton, both of which are great resorts in both summer and winter, when you are sure to blow the cobwebs away with beautiful beach walks.
History buffs should make time to visit the Hanseatic Quarter of Old Kings Lynn, where you can join walking tours and may even have some ghostly encounters. You are also just twenty minutes away from the small city of Ely with its magnificent Cathedral towering into the skyline, which is aptly named ‘the ship of the fens’. Here you will also find Oliver Cromwell’s House, a lovely stained-glass museum and lots of boutique places to eat, shop and drink. You can also hop on a train from here and explore the University City of Cambridge with its fantastic Fitzwilliam Museum and a host of other great attractions. For a change of pace, in just over ten minutes, you can be in Welney Wetlands, which offers a safe haven of wide-open spaces bursting with wetland nature. Add in the Sandringham and Holkham Estates and Peckover House plus a host of other fun things to see and do, and you will soon be congratulating yourself on choosing Jasmine Cottage for your holiday because not only is it simply gorgeous, but it is well-placed too. Just lovely! Beach 23 miles.
