Fabulous - wish we had booked longer!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Le Grenier and were made to feel very welcome by Jenny and Jacques, who even arranged a wine tasting experience for us. There was plenty to keep our two children entertained at the house and we loved the garden and spa area. The location was perfect; peaceful, yet only ten minutes from lots of local attractions. The children loved the mix of animals and we would definitely like to return in the near future.

A wonderful week at Le Grenier

We had a wonderful, restful stay at Le Grenier surrounded by vineyards and sunflowers. Jenny and Jacques were so caring and attentive with nothing being too much trouble. The hot tub and sauna were a big hit…as well as the lovely animals! A real treat of a week! Thank you so much Jenny and Jacques!

A really lovely stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very well equipped, lovely gite. Even though one of our children was unwell for a couple of days it was no hardship to be “stuck” in the gite with her as it was so comfortable and relaxing - we also really enjoyed watching all the peacocks, pigs, ponies and chickens out the windows! There were lots of great places to visit nearby. The zoo was an absolute highlight! Some of us also put the bikes that were available to good use and enjoyed cycling around the quiet country roads, and our children also enjoyed playing with the games equipment in the garden. Jenny and her husband were very welcoming and made sure we had all we needed.

A brilliant spacious property in an interesting area

We enjoyed 7 fantastic days here as a family with young children. The gite itself is set on large grounds and there are lots of games and activities to enjoy in the gardens. The hosts are friendly and our children loved meeting the dogs (unusual for them!), peacocks, pigs etc. We had enough to do and see with the cave dwellings nearby, the inspiring light exhibition in caves, the cave restaurant, pretty villages etc. We could have spent longer there too if willing to travel further afield but while we were there there was enough to do in a 15-minute-by-car radius. If we could change anything it would be for both bedrooms to be on the same floor as younger children tend to want/ need to be closer to parents at night in an unfamiliar place. We got around that though and had a fabulous time making many happy memories.

Parfait

Thank you Jackie and Andrew!!!! Sophia, Florian et Estelle

Le Grenier

Perfect Gite with all mod cons and a peaceful location, but within easy reach of all of the Loire attractions - oh if you have children this is also for you, table tennis, darts, bikes and boule all await there enjoyment - we’ve stayed in many Gites over the years and Le Grenier is certainly one of the very best

Best Gite we have stayed in!

It must be pretty good to have us return to this Gite year after year! Set in very spacious grounds with a large walled area at the front, the back looking out over more garden & an extensive field for the two donkeys. The Gite is light, airy, comfortable, large and well equipped. Andrew & Jackie are friendly, welcoming hosts, Andrew has been known to crack the occasional well travelled groan worthy joke! A splendid place to stay and we will be back next year!

A beautiful charming Gite in Loire

A well maintained property in the heart of the French countryside, a quiet location with beautiful private gardens with an added addition of two friendly donkeys in their own paddock. The property is very clean with modern fixtures and fittings, but the property still retains its original French charm. The modern kitchen is well equipped with all you would need for your stay, cooker/hob, microwave, Washing machine and dishwasher plus all the crockery items that you would require. Both bedrooms are light and airy with plenty of storage space. En-suite bathroom for the master double bedroom and separate bathroom for the twin bedroom downstairs. There are bikes, table tennis room, dart board, badminton equipment and enough toys to keep any little ones well occupied, oh and there’s a swing. The area is perfect for cycling and walking on the quiet roads amongst the vineyards and fields. We have been staying in this area for many years and this is by far the best Gite we have stayed in. The owners made us very welcome and always on hand to advise or have a chat. I would recommend this property to any of my friends and family.

Peaceful, wonderful setting with great facilities

We had a fantastic holiday staying at Le Grenier. Jackie and Andrew were very hospitable - on hand to welcome us and offer any advice when needed, and left us to our own devices to enjoy our family holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed cycling amongst the local vineyards (with one or two tasting stops), and visiting nearby villages. We were lucky enough to stumble upon the annual Retro Grand Prix at Le Puy Notre Dame which is a fun day out if you happen to be there that weekend. The grounds are lovely, with a huge garden with two donkeys in their own area at the foot. We made some use of the badminton, table tennis, table football, dart board and even the basketball hoop. Not to mention the outside chairs and loungers, gas bbq - and of course our toddler loved playing in the little kids house, sand pit and swings in the garden. If he wasn't busy with these, or feeding the donkeys, he would either be playing hide and seek or watching tractors from nearby farms drive past. Overall, we had a very special holiday at Le Grenier and would be very happy to repeat the experience in future. I certainly do hope we have another opportunity to stay at this well equipped gite. We were also very grateful to receive a parcel in the mail a week or two after arriving home with a few of our son's toys that we had failed to pack. Unexpected, but hugely appreciated by all of us and especially the youngest member of the family.

Back to a 'Gorgeous' Gite

This was our third holiday in Le Grenier and what a great two weeks we have had. Andrew and Jackie are the perfect hosts and would do anything to help/organise etc and make sure that everything is as you would wish. The icing on the cake for us, being a retired couple, were the morning cycle rides in the beautiful quiet French countryside and bringing our baguette back from the nearby village. To sum up 'perfect'. Mike and Anna

Gite Heaven

This was our 5th year at Le Grenier, our home from home, the most relaxing holiday environment you could wish for, spacious, quiet, easily the best gite we have ever stayed in, but we no longer sample any others! Many local attractions in easy reach and if you tire of lounging over leisurely meals in the sun there is table tennis, boules, even table football on hand, and Samson & Zeus, the donkeys, to recycle stale bread... Thanks once more to our friendly & welcoming hosts, Andrew & Jackie, and long may they continue at Le G.

The perfect gite!

Our stay at Le Grenier couldn't have been better. It was our first "proper" holiday with our 10 month old baby and we all had a truly relaxing, memorable time. The house is immaculate and has everything you could possibly need, but retains real charm. Fabulous gardens were ideal for baby to crawl, and for the adults to relax or play badminton. Icing on the cake... the donkeys at the bottom of the garden! I couldn't recommend this place highly enough, especially with such friendly, helpful owners.

Fabulous gite in peaceful rural setting

This was our first stay in this wonderful gite. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and fantastically equipped, both inside and out, spotlessly clean and very comfortable, a real home from home. Although rural it is within easy reach of places such as Samur, Chinon and Villandry and there are bikes to borrow to explore the local vineyards and villages. Plenty to entertain youngsters outside in the garden, including donkeys to feed! A nice restaurant (Le Bouchon Ponot) 5 minutes away serving good rustic food. A boulangerie within cycling distance. Andrew and Jackie have made this a wonderful place to relax and do very little if you just want to sit and enjoy the local wines and cheeses........! Very welcoming hosts who are on hand if you wish to ask them anything about the local area. We look forward to returning in the near future.

Le Grenier Home from Home!

Back at our favourite gite of all time, 4 years in a row and already booked for a 5th in 2017! A wonderfully relaxed setting, spacious very well appointed gite, a large walled garden, table tennis room, boules area, resident donkeys so no bread wasted, and genial & entertaining hosts Andrew & Jackie. Enjoy the quiet countryside, the many chateaux within easy reach, the local wine... Just go, you won't regret it!

Another memorable stay in a wonderful gite

After staying at Le Grenier for one week in 2015 we booked in for a fortnight this year. We were not disappointed with a longer break at Le Grenier. Andrew and Jacky made every effort before our stay to ensure a few extra facilities were available for our 18 month old daughter (paddling pool, swing, clean sand pit toys, baby chair, travel cot). The gite was as comfortable and well furnished as we remembered while the information available in the gite was invaluable. The outside area is spacious and there are all manner of amenities for guests to use if the sun is shining (sun loungers, outside table and chairs both front and back, bicycles, badminton net, etc). Andrew and Jacky are often on hand for any local knowledge or advice that might be needed and the property is very close to a number of lovely sights in a beautiful area. Throw in a few vineyards in the immediate vicinity and Le Grenier comes close to perfection! All in all, another memorable stay in a wonderful gite owned by a lovely couple. What more could you want? Five stars!!

Still the best gite we have stayed in!

Shh... Keep this to yourselves but there is no better gite in the Loire, in France! Spacious, very well appointed, quiet & relaxing, lots of countryside to explore nearby, table tennis, boules, donkeys for the leftovers, and the ever entertaining Andrew to make your holiday complete. Our third visit and we could have sworn that, nestling amongst the polished chestnuts, there were several jokes we had not heard before! New jokes, surely not! Back next year, we would not miss it!

We'd give it 6 stars if we could!

We've just spent a week at this wonderful accommodation. Nothing was too much trouble for Andrew, he responded promptly and was extremely helpful both before and during our stay. A lot of thought has gone into making this extremely high quality holiday accommodation, it has all the luxuries of home and more. For exploring the Loire Valley, for cycling or for simply relaxing, Le Grenier is the perfect choice of where to stay. We highly recommend this lovely gite and would give it 6 stars if we could!

A great place for families

This was the second straight year that we spent a week at Le Grenier, and it was just as enjoyable as last year. The gite is very well maintained and comfortable, equipped with everything you might need, and Andrew is as friendly and helpful as can be. The donkeys were a big hit with our young daughter, who fed them each day. Plenty of bikes of all sizes are available and there's no shortage of country roads and paths to follow. Recommend visits to the charming town of Montreuil Bellay and Montsoreau (but don't bother with the chateau at Montsoreau -- just walk around the town on a nice day). Terra Botanica is worth a look, even if you have only a mild interest in plant life.

First class gite

We had a week at Le Grenier and enjoyed every moment. The gite itself is first class - well presented, well equipped and with the sort of attention to detail that enables you to have a comfortable and relaxing time away from home. The quality of the inside is also matched by a delightful garden, lovely peaceful setting and plenty of toys and games to keep you occupied if needed - though just catching the afternoon sun in a quiet corner watching the donkeys did it for us. In all an excellent experience and one we are likely to repeat if visiting this part of the Loire again - which in its own right is an inspiration.

A beautiful Gite to relax and unwind

We stay for 1 week. This is the second time we returned to the Gite within 4 weeks. We had such a wonderful time we could not wait to do it all again. We cycled, BBQ, had great food and relaxed. If you enjoy cycling this is such a perfect place to ride. The Gite is very well maintained by Andrew, who is a great host, nothing is too much trouble. It's very clean and tidy, which is what you need. Everything works in the Gite. The gite is full of character. Waking up in the morning to sunshine in your room, lovely. I love this place, and should I return to Saumur this is the only gite I will stay in.

Beautiful Gite - Definitely Recommend

What an incredible gite. Pictures on the website do not do it justice. Spotlessly clean and at the same time warm and welcoming. Spacious and full of character with beams, vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework. The gite catered for all our needs with integrated appliances, two shower rooms and there was a vast variety of games and activities for children (and two lovely donkeys who enjoyed the odd baguette)! Andrew, the owner lives on site; available but never intrusive. We loved the table tennis, basket ball, table football and great bikes – that were all available for our own private use. The area is perfect for cycling around the quiet lanes and tracks. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the evening in the beautiful private garden and grounds with a BBQ and glass of local wine (brought back from one of the nearby Châteaux wine tastings). On other days out we went to the Zoo at Doue (definitely worth a visit) and went Go Karting which was great fun too! Best gite by far that we have stayed in and we have already booked for next year.

Best Gite we have stayed in!

Our second visit to Le Grenier and as enjoyable as the first, especially with the addition of table tennis! The perfect place to relax away from the bustle of London. Yes, there are a lot of chateaux and markets to visit but this year we just enjoyed the surroundings, on site table tennis, darts, badminton, boules, even table football! Tennis nearby. A large choice of bikes at the Gite to explore the mostly flat countryside. Excellent food at the supermarkets in Due La Fontaine. And the ever genial Andrew to check all is going well and regale us with a never ending supply of jokes... Back in 2015!

Sensational

I fully endorse all the fantastic reviews for Le Grenier. Andrew + Jackie have thought of everything to make this a simply superb place for a wonderful family holiday. When Andrew knew that we were keen on cycling around the very quiet country lanes, he went a bought a brand new bike of an appropriate size to add to the five he already has available in the barn. The conversion is first class and the location and grounds are stunning. The pictures don't really do it justice. We stayed with our three daughters - aged 15, 12 and 9 - and we all absolutely loved it with something to entertain everyone at the gite, and so much to do and see within a 45 minute drive. The zoo at Doue is exceptional, the aviary especially so. A little further afield, I'd also recommend a visit to Chinon for its dragons, English history and Jeanne d'Arc. Spectacular location and an impressive interactive guide for kids. We'll certainly return in the future and have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending Le Grenier to our family and friends.

Excellent Gite!

We have stayed in many gites all over France but Le Grenier was the best yet! Very spacious, furnished & equipped to a very high standard, plenty of room to relax outside, 2 donkeys to eat up scraps, all sorts of activities catered for, from badminton to table football. Local area flat and full of tiny hamlets, excellent cycling country, decent bikes available. Lots of places to visit, from chateaux to vignerons. And all overseen by genial and entertaining Andrew, no joke too old to recycle...
