The location is awesone, hidden in the backyard where, when relaxing on the porch, you can spot plenty of animals.
Inside you'll find a spacious lining room and very modern bed/bathrooms
Fantastic accommodation, grounds, and location. The three bedrooms and bathrooms made it ideal for a family of 5 with 3 teenagers. Walking distance to everything the laidback village of Cahuita has to offer including the national park where we saw sloths, monkeys, reptiles, birds, and more. The bikes were a bonus and the body boards were lots of fun in the surf.
Spacious, well-equipped, air-conditioned, and private! The owners were very responsive to our questions, and Shelly gave great restaurant recommendations. 3-5 minutes from Cahuita National Park and the beach. Plenty to do in the area, including hiking, snorkeling, and bird watching. Most mornings, we could hear howler monkeys from the property, and see other wildlife from the front porch.
We had such a beautiful time together as a family in this house with lots of space for all of us (we were 5 adults and 1 teen). The house was very clean, and the garden was lovely and well maintained. It is only a short walk to the national park entrance, and we saw lots of wildlife just in the garden as well - agoutis, toucans, capuchins, Jesus Christ lizards, and even a poison dart frog! Cahuita is a lovely and fairly quiet beach town, and we found everything to be easily within walking distance from the house. Our host was a great communicator and responded quickly to any questions/concerns, even while on holiday herself. Truly above and beyond, one of our favorite stays in Costa Rica.
Beautiful and comfortable home within walking distance to Cahuita National Park and many restaurants and surfing beaches. Puerto Viejo, Punta Uva, Cocles and Manzanillo are also a short (and relatively stress-free) drive from the house and absolutely worth visiting. Shelley quickly took care of any details that needed attention, provided useful suggestions and even found a masseuse for us who makes house calls. The setting is private and the jacuzzi was a welcome bonus. If you want peace and quiet, stay in Cahuita and drive to nearby towns. The kitchen is stocked for cooking only basic meals; check out what staples and appliances are available before making your market run.
This is definitely the house you need for your stay in Cahuita or any neighboring town. My husband and I stayed very busy every day and what a pleasure it was to come back to this cool, comfortable, clean, spacious, open and airy home. The pictures really don't do it justice. It has everything you need for a great stay including very comfortable beds, 3 bathrooms, ample kitchenware for meal preparation, large front porch with picnic table and hot tub etc., It sits nestled among beautiful trees and flowers on a very quiet side road. The only "noise" we ever heard was that of monkeys and birds which we loved. Also, it is within walking distance to main area of Cahuita and you can get there via a nice back road (about 5-10 min) instead of the main road. It's close to so many things which makes it a perfect location. The hosts, Shelley and John are wonderful - extremely helpful - superb.
This house fit our needs perfectly! The host is amazing as well! We had an issue, and she was extremely attentive, and corrected the issue as quickly as possible! I would not hesitate to rent from her again. Words do not do this property justice. The beds were extremely comfortable. There was plenty of storage space for clothing and the bathrooms were very modernized, with great water pressure in the showers. It had basic dishes, cups, silverware, and pots and pans. We did not rent with the intention of cooking as we wanted to experience the Costa Rican cuisine. The host went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and gave us numerous suggestions on restaurants, activities and guides. A+++ property.
The home really is stunning. It is so new, clean and in a lovely location. We enjoyed waking up to howler monkeys howling as well as birds chirping. Great communication as well.
Pictures do not do this place justice. It’s gorgeous! The hardwood floors are some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. Shelly is a terrific host. Great communication and great suggestions for dinner. Entrance to the Cahuita NP is literally a 10 minute walk into town, and can be done without getting on the busy main road. We saw monkeys almost every day we were there. Unfortunately the hot tub was not working which was a little disappointing. I wish there were more towels (bath and kitchen) and maybe some paper towels. You def want to take a beach towel if you head to the beach. The washer and dryer was very convenient.
There are tons of restaurants within walking distance. Cahuita is a great little town and this house was beautiful.
The property was better than described. It was immaculately clean and very spacious. The location is convenient to town and the NP. After returning from Cahuita NP we watched howler monkeys play in the trees in the yard for a couple of hours. The morning we left there were agoutis in the yard. Seeing wildlife up close was absolutely amazing. Shelley was such a great host. I hope that we get to stay again in the future.
Beautiful peaceful and convenient. Property as described with attentive property owners. Loved our two night stay and will be back. Thanks so much.

About the host

"So what do you want to do with the rest of your life?" Jon asked Shelley on their first date in 2016. "One day I want to live in Costa Rica." She replied. "Well if we get married, then one day we will."
They got married the following year, and almost a year to the day later they packed up their belongings and their chihuahua Brian and moved lock, stock and barrel to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica.
They bought Casa Congo in January 2020 as a vacation rental business, but when the Covid 19 pandemic set in and all their bookings were cancelled, like many of us, they pivoted. They moved into Casa Congo, bought the lot next door and built their dream home - AND got pregnant!
Now everything is slowly returning to normal, Casa Congo is once again open for business, and baby Isla has joined the family.
