Great getaway

5 stars. Great spot for a barn conversion getaway. The house itself was great and very homely. Owners live next door and were super friendly and helpful. Pet friendly but note carpeted upstairs. Loved the bath, wood burner and welcome scones with clotted cream and jam! Narrow roads nearby. Love to stay again.

Stay at The Parlour

We had a fantastic week staying in The Parlour. On arrival we found a lovely treat of freshly made scones, clotted cream and jam and a bottle of fresh milk from the local shop. Which was a real treat, thank you. We really enjoyed the parlour it is spacious and now has very good broadband to be able to stream movies and Netflix ect.. more importantly able to watch the Rugby on Prime last Saturday on Prime. The area is very peaceful and quite which is what we were looking for this week. We have enjoyed the local area, Appledor, Instow for Sunday lunch and walk.. Bude and a fun day trip down to Port Issac and then to Rock for lunch at The Mariners by Paul Ainsworth.. well worth the trip for some great food. The new owners have taken over a lovely holiday cottage and one we will certainly come back to. I am sure they will put there stamp on the lace over the next year or so and make changes which they asked us to highlight.. Our feeling is only small as the furniture was comfy and felt maybe the telly in the bedroom we stayed may need to be a little bigger or moved and maybe the mattress or bed needs slight update.. All in all it was a lovely big room with ensuit and the games area was fun as we had a few games of pool and air hockey. I also enjoyed having a fire this week and we were able to use it every evening and the first logs are supplied which is very helpful.. It’s a lovely place and a lovely home from home and look forward to coming back one day. Thanks for a lovely time

Great cottage in rural Devon

My wife, sister and I had a great time staying at Philham Parlour. It was very comfortable, well equipped and extremely roomy, in a good location, convenient for the village of Hartland and the coastal path. The new owners, Kris and Pete, who had only moved in next door last week, were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.

Wonderful holiday base

The Parlour was a fantastic base for us to explore The North Devon coast. It was spacious, clean and fantastically well equipped. Philham is a beautifully tranquil village, it was literally the perfect place for the three of us and our 7 month old puppy to enjoy scenic walks and short car journeys into the local towns and villages. We enjoyed the odd game of table football as well as long luxuriant baths in the large free standing bath, a rare treat.

We stayed at The Parlour for 5 weeks in total, huge rooms and very well equipped. Owners made us feel very welcome and had left a welcome pack much appreciated. Lovely peaceful area with alpacas in the field opposite. Lovely walks and easy to get to Cornwall and North Devon. Went to Broomhill sculpture park, park ok but the restaurant there fantastic well with a visit. Will recommend the Parlour to all our friends and family.

Bliss!

The property was spacious, clean and nicely furnished. There was a welcome pack which came in very handy. Owners were welcoming but not intrusive. Philham Parlour is a lovely quiet get-away but also close to some beautiful places. It's one of the best places we've stayed in. Would recommended to others

Home from Home in picturesque North Devon

Philham Parlour is a well appointed holiday cottage in quiet surroundings in beautiful North Devon. Accommodation is spacious, spotlessly clean with modern furnishings and comfortable beds, and everything you need for a relaxing holiday. In easy distance of many places to explore in Devon and Cornwall. Owners Mark and Lorraine are attentive but unobtrusive. The local produce left in the welcome pack were a nice touch. Would definitively go back.

Getting away from it all in the Devon countryside

Philham Parlour was a perfect base from which to explore North Devon. The barn was spacious, clean and had everything we needed for our stay as a family of four. We were travelling with a 3 year old and an 11 month old baby and we were provided with a high chair, travel cot and stair gate on request. Our 3 year old son was well entertained by the trampoline, chickens and football table! The surrounding area is just stunning. Hartland Quay, Clovelly and Mouthmill Cove are all beautiful and worth a visit. The Big Sheep was a fun family day out, and we also ventured a bit further afield to Croyde to do some surfing, and to Lynton & Lynmouth in Exmoor for a day. We could honestly have stayed another few weeks exploring the area there is so much to see! Mark and Lorraine are lovely hosts - warm, friendly and helpful. The welcome breakfast was also a nice touch. We would definitely recommend Philham Parlour as a place to stay in North Devon and hope to return one day in the future!

Spacious, comfortable and very clean

A very peaceful place to stay. The parlour has plenty of space for families and is exceptionally clean. A fantastic base from which to explore north Devon and Cornwall. Hartland Quay and the walk to Speke Mill was a particular highlight, breathtakingly dramatic coastal views. Lots of other beautiful places to explore too, the quaint and unspoilt Clovelly, wide open expanses of beaches at Westward Ho and Widemouth and Padstow not too far a drive away. Lorraine and Mark are excellent hosts, being present and helpful if needed but otherwise leave you to your privacy and we felt relaxed knowing our little dog was a welcome guest too. Arriving to bread, butter, home laid eggs and other basic essentials was very appreciated. We hope to return again, hopefully with friends and family next time.

Lovely and peaceful

A lovely and spacious barn in a beautiful location. Lovely and clean on arrival and Mark and Lorraine were even kind enough to leave milk, eggs and bacon for us. The pool table went down well with the kids and so did the parlour across the road which has a couple of swings and a trampoline for them. The barn had everything we needed and the owners made us feel very welcome. The location was perfect for us, as I have family and friends who live in Hartland. You have plenty of areas to explore such as hartland Quay, Clovelly etc. For the kids you have the big sheep and the milky way all of which are a 20 mins drive front the barn. I would highly recommend this barn for a nice relaxing stay and would happily stay here again to see my family. Thank you Mark and Lorraine

Ideal location for exploring the coastline

The accommodation was in a lovely secluded position, which lends itself to a restful place after a day exploring. The secure courtyard garden was ideal for sitting out with our dog. Found a stunning circular walk to Hartland Quay from the property. Atlantic Village with an Asda, and various outlet stores, just a 15 minute drive away was a real bonus.

Immaculate, well equipped & spacious Barn conversion in a tranquil location

Wow! Philam Parlour is immaculately clean and spacious. From the lounge to the kitchen and on to the bedrooms & bathrooms. Mark & Lorraine have produced a wonderful barn in a very peaceful location. You need to be cautious on the narrow lanes, but its worth it. The kitchen is well equipped and even has a second fridge that was very useful. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The welcome pack including bacon, sausage and BOUGHTfree range eggs, were great especially the milk, bread & butter after our long journey from Yorkshire. I loved the log fire and had to light it up once, although it was warm, just to remember what a real fire looked & smelt like...but was also reminded what a mess they make. We enjoyed feeding the Philam chickens our vegetable scraps and I was tempted to rustle a few REAL free range eggs! hint! hint! The guest information is both informative and useful. The direction were accurate and guided us safely there. We visited Bude,( ate some lovely Cornish pasties from Tasty Pantry and had some good chips from the chippy next door, my sister had to try them again a few days later) Illfracombe, Exmoor/ Minehead and the lovely Bideford. The only down side is many of the places we visited except Bude, were quite a journey. One word of caution, I went to the New Inn at Kirkhampton and was served fermented green beans with my meal, everything else was just average. I am a renal transplant patient and have to be extra careful. I left these and told the assistant manager who refused to taste them himself. when we left I spoke to a young member of staff who was outside who said the chef & 2 other people tasted them and agreed they were off. I got no explanation or even acknowledgement. I hope its possible for us to stay at Philham Palour again in the future, or even try Philham b&b...maybe that's the right way to try those eggs. Good luck Mark & Lorraine in the future.
