The Cueva del Viento-Sobrado underground complex, with more than 17 kilometres of topography, is the largest volcanic tunnel or tube in Europe and the third largest in the world. It originated from the flows of the Pico Viejo volcano, located next to Teide. The beach of San Marcos has black volcanic sand and is located a short distance from the town of Icod de los Vinos, in a bay protected from the winds by lava flows that penetrate the sea where, according to tradition, the Gothic-Flemish image of the patron saint of Icod, San Marcos, appeared in a cave.
