This cabin was designed and built by our team at McLaren building, taking inspiration from the past and Skye's fascinating history. This can be seen in features such as the copper bath and the hand-crafted bed. The idea behind the bed was the vision of the owner and primary designer of the cabins, Cristien McLaren. One day, while walking in the local area, he found a piece of old railway track. This track had belonged to a railway line that was known as the marble quarry line. In the early 1900s Skye began cutting marble blocks and exporting them for sculpture making, using the marble line to transport the huge pieces from Swordale to Broadford. This marble industry still exists today, however it uses blasting with explosives and the railway line has long since been abandoned. We feel we have created a truly special place for you to relax and unwind, while enjoying the rich culture of Skye.
Ardcana, luxury spaces have been built around the view, with huge picture windows which offer an unrivalled panorama, even from the comfort of your bed. Whether the sun is shining, or the famous Skye rain is falling, you will be able to watch a stunning show, night after night from the comfort of Ardcana. In the height of summer, you might just be lucky enough to experience the sun setting behind Dun Caan, the famous flat-topped mountain of Raasay.
