Lake House Retreat - in the Beautiful NC Mountains

Prepare Thanksgiving dinner in a fully provisioned kitchen or slip out for a romantic, gourmet meal at Eeseola Lodge. Step outside into beautiful hiking trails, an 18 hole golf course or trout fishing. Short drive to ski resorts, the AT, or for a spa treatment and amazing massage. You will return home renewed from a place of deep peace.

Space
A Sabbath Invitation… Our lovely, little lake house in the mountains of North Carolina has a beauty and stillness that fills you with peace. A family spent Thanksgiving trout fishing in the nearby river, a couple celebrated their anniversary with massages at Eeseoloa lodge, and a pastor settled into stillness for a weeklong silent retreat. We hope this will continue to happen. What occurs in a space matters. You can feel it when a space has been prayed in for years and years. That’s why chapels, cathedrals and sanctuaries feel so sacred to us. We want others to join us in praying, playing, resting, loving – Sabbathing – in this space. So, please consider our invitation… Will you join us in filling this little, beautiful lake house with loving energy? The mountains are covered in blooming rhododendrons in June. The air is cool and dry in the summer. The lake has a small beach for swimming and a beautiful golf course. Will you take some time here to reconnect with your partner? Spend a week in silent retreat? Use it as a home base to visit NC waterfalls, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Asheville or the Appalachian Trail? Fish for trout in the nearby river? Plan a girlfriends getaway? Golf? We believe the time you spend here will deeply bless you. If you choose to accept this Sabbath invitation here are some details…
-Full bath with towels
-Full stocked alley kitchen (pots, coffee maker, dishes, etc) including dishwasher, microwave, and washer/dryer.
-Large deck with grill, two deck chairs and loveseat.
-Queen sized bed with linens -Sleep sofa (queen) with linens (living room can be made into a private space with curtains)
-Dining table for four
-Wifi (no TV)
-Small gas fireplace
-Lake and river walking paths
-Fishing
-5 min from Eseeola Lodge (amazing restaurant, spa and best massage I’ve ever had)
-Part of a resort community that offers a wide variety of activities and a golf course.
-15 min drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway
-1.5 hour drive to Asheville
-Good for couples, or 2-3 friends or small family Every visitor blesses us. Your presence enriches this house with loving energy. And, if you have time after your visit, send a little email note telling us what you discovered, loved, etc. It will help us tell others what to look for when they visit.

The View!

Although we chose the worst week to visit (tropical storm Fred - wind, rain, flooding), we enjoyed our stay at the Lake House Retreat in Linville Land Harbor. The house was spotless and well stocked. The view from this property is amazing due to the floor to ceiling windows in living area. (Parents of little ones: please make sure these remain locked at all times!) The property also has a terraced sitting area and a wonderful rooftop deck complete with outdoor furniture. We especially appreciated the lighted and covered parking space which protected our vehicle during the storm. We would love to stay here again - minus "Fred", of course.

Balm for the soul

2nd stay, as this is a place “good for what ails you.” A compact space, yet seems bigger due to 2 walls of sliding doors in the LR/DR. No TV is a major plus! The view of trees and the lake will transfix you. Upstairs deck huge. Owner is the nicest I’ve dealt with on VRBO. If you seek quiet time in nature, retreat to this place of peace.

Treehouse Experience

This house feels like you are living in the trees. Very cozy with everything we needed to make meals at home. Community has a lot to offer, but we didn’t take advantage of that. Would love some curtains to pull over the sliding glass doors to keep out the morning sun while sleeping on fold out couch. That was my only complaint. :)

Quiet lake house retreat

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at this lake house immensely. Because it is built on a bluff above the Linville Land Harbor lake, the view of the lake from the living room was both spectacular and peaceful. Inside the cabin is fully furnished to make your stay pleasant and enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the gas stove located in the living room, it cut the chill on those cool fall mornings and evenings during our stay. This lake house is centrally located for a host of different outdoor activities. My wife and I enjoyed hiking some of the trails in Pisgah National Forest and even within the Land Harbor Lake community; the Linville Falls and Grandfather mountain are "must-sees". I enjoyed fly-fishing the South Toe river and Wilson creek. I strongly recommend this quiet lake house to anyone looking for a beautiful escape and outdoor adventure.

Nature lover’s sanctuary

This was the ideal destination to escape from the world’s ongoing vexations in 2020. A most comfortable, private and affordable lodging with lovely lake views through the trees. The lakeside nature trail down below the cottage was reached by holding back some rhododendrons...was so well worth it! Bring your hiking stick and tromping around shoes! Greg the owner couldn’t have been kinder or more responsive. Looking forward to another time in the trees!

quaint and cozy

My husband and I loved the house.! Sitting in the living room looking out the 3 huge sliding glass doors at the lake made you feel like you were truly in the mountains. The Kitchen was well equipped with everything needed to cook. I was impressed to see spices , condiments and some dry goods along with paper towels and toilet paper are provided so I would advise you to go to house before shopping. It is a one bedroom and the bed is very comfortable. There is a sleep sofa that is very old and the owner plans to replace it and when he does then 4 people would be comfortable in the house. The description does not mention there are no Televisions , we brought our IPADS so it was not an issue. There is a path going behind the house that leads to a small space with a firepit. We are already planning our next trip to stay here again. Thank you Greg ! Pam and Tom

Mix up at Ck in. so place was not ready. Mary took care of the problem and we were 100% satisfied. Loved the whole place and the weather! Could not have asked for better owners! We will be back.

Lake House

This cabin is located in a beautiful community called Land Harbor. The property is very easy to get to and has a wonderful lake view. We felt very safe in the area and would stay here again. We found it to be clean and well stocked. The only reason I did not give it 5 full stars is because the carpet is getting worn and we did not like having carpet in one of the bathrooms. There are lots of stairs to navigate but that was not a problem for us and the place has excellent outside lighting. This property is definitely a restful retreat and close to lots of attractions to visit.

Beautiful lake house

My elderly mother, my sister and I spent Sun-Tue at the lake house in Newland. It was a trip to relax and spend time together in a beautiful setting. The house is not big but the size and location were perfect for our plans. It is located near the Blue Ridge Parkway so we took our time driving from Moses Cone House around milestone 294 to the exit Blue Ridge Ave. which was a few miles away from the house. Although it was cloudy we still enjoyed all the stops and took a short trail here and there. At the house, all the glass doors gave the impression that we were in a tree house. The house was well stocked and had everything we needed for our stay. There is no TV but that didn't bother us as we hardly watch TV. Monday afternoon my sister and I took the river trail from the parking close to the canoes and came out close by the house! It was a beautiful trail which continued along the river and eventually turned back towers the lake. Greg the owner was great to work with and he was extremely helpful in several ways. We truly enjoyed our stay and will return when time permits.

Great view, cozy & comfortable

My husband & I love the NC mountains and have stayed in this area before. We were happy to find this cabin with the gorgeous view of the lake. The cabin was perfect for one couple, and even a couple with 1-2 children. 2 couples might have been tight, but could handle it. The cabin had everything we needed...fireplace, kitchen, upper deck grill with seating area. The cabin had 2 full baths, but one was not available during the winter months. It wasn't a problem for us, and still used the space for our luggage and belongings. We brought all of our toiletries , and extra food, but the cabin did have some items stocked. There were several grocery stores nearby. The location of the cabin is perfect. Close to Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone, Blowing Rock, etc. Lots of great hiking and also did a wonderful horseback ride with ElK Mountain Horseback Riding. (2 hrs @ $65pp). The only thing that the cabin didn't have was a tv. That wasn't a problem for us as we like to read and there was a WiFi password if we wanted to watch shows on our iPad. We would definitely stay here again. We hope to get back sooner than later. Thank you Greg & Mary for sharing your cabin.

A True Getaway

Me and my wife go up to these mountains every year for our wedding anniversary. We are so glad we picked here to stay because it was right around the corner from EVERYTHING. If you've been in the mountains you know that is a good thing. Our last day a bald eagle sent us on our way just in the tree behind the house. Fireplace is just a turn of a knob away. It was PERFECT for me and my wife. Absolutely Perfect!!

Perfect getaway!

We absolutely loved everything about this lake house, we were wanting something out of the middle of the city but easy to get everywhere and this is exactly what we got! We went to grandfather mountain, Boone, banner elk, and blowing rock. The best part was waking up to a lake front view, wish the weather wasn't so cold so we could have used the porch! We will definately be going back! :)

Mary has been pastoring for 20 years.. Her passion is helping people of all ages hear the voice of the holy within them so that they may experience the healing power of Love.

Mary leads retreats and pilgrimages, offers Spiritual Direction and helps execute the vision for their non-profit Farm in Cincinnati, Tikkun Farm. If you’re looking for a farm getaway, complete with farm breakfast, alpaca petting and chickens, check out our Air BnB in Cincinnati!

Mary’s favorite sacred places include the island of Iona off the coast of Scotland, the Celtic monastic ruin, Skellig Michael on an island off the coast of Ireland, and Assateague, the barrier island off the coast of Maryland where she’s been camping with her family every summer since she was five years old.

She married Greg York 5 years ago in Ireland and is the mother of 18 year old John – musician, writer and college freshman. Mary enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, camping and hiking out in God’s “Big Book” – the Celtic way of speaking about creation. But she really loves helping others hear the quiet and persistent voice of God speaking love to us.

Greg York
After a 25 year career at Procter & Gamble, Greg retired from corporate life and began creating another kind of life – centered around restoration and repurposing. Greg repurposes his skills as a manager and strategic planner mentoring young entrepreneurs and supporting the growth of Center City Collision’s “body shop Abbey” a place where cars as well as auto body workers experience healing & restoration. Through his capacity to see beauty where others see ruin he creates spaces for community living in the homes he’s wonderfully restored. Rather than invest in stocks, he invests in neighborhoods, restoring a “third place” cafe in an impoverished community where urban farmers make a living from their garden feeding their neighbors. Greg restored this little lake house and it reflects his craftsmanship for creating beauty.

Why they chose this property

We love coming to the mountains to enjoy the cool summers and the amazingly beautiful winters.
