About this property

4* Coastal Estate Farmhouse Close to Pretty Beach. Wonderful Coastal Paths & Woodland Walks

Located on the historic Corsewall Estate, High Clachan Farmhouse has recently been fully restored and renovated. This luxury, 4-star, self catering house comfortably accommodates eight people. All the bedrooms and public rooms at High Clachan have charming rural views.

On entering, the pretty farmhouse has a large breakfasting kitchen, with charming restored church pews forming seats around the dining table. Off the kitchen is a large conservatory, with another dining table and arm chairs, so guests can either choose to eat here, relax, play games or take in the views.

The sitting room is located to the left of the front door and has a log burning stove - which gives off a great heat and wood is provided free of charge. There is a large corner sofa, other various arm chairs and chairs, a television and DVD player.

The master bedroom, with a king size bed, is also located on the ground floor. It has an en suite bathroom with a bath and separate shower. Next door is a bedroom with a full sized bunk bed, which is ideal if you have children and want them close by at night.

Upstairs there are two further bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, which have zip and link beds so can either be made up as twin or double (super king) beds. Full of character, these bedrooms each have the original fireplaces. Both bedrooms have huge en suite bathrooms with Victorian style free standing baths for added luxury and separate showers and under floor heating. There is also an additional house bathroom upstairs, with a bath and overhead shower.

Downstairs, the house also has an utility room, with a washing machine, which is a great space for storing and hanging up outside clobber. There is also a separate WC.

All linen, fluffy towels, extra thick feather filled duvets and pillows are provided. Heating, electricity and logs are also included in the price.

High Clachan is equipped with WiFi, a DeLonghi coffee machine, a Smart TV, DVD player; a Roberts Bluetooth radio, a selection of board games, books and classic films. It has its own private garden with a croquet lawn including garden furniture and a barbecue.

We provide a welcome pack for guests on arrival including a jar of incredibly edible, home-made Corsewall brownies, milk, bread, jam, butter, tea, coffee and fresh flowers from the garden (when in season). You'll find the cottage well equipped with the general basics too from washing up liquid, bin bags to washing powder and loo roll.

Over the past year we’ve been busy in our little corner of South West Scotland creating a host of magnificent woodland paths and coastal walks around Corsewall Estate for guests to enjoy during their stay. There are lots different options for shortening the walks or lengthening them. Many guests comment that they love the new paths as they don’t need to drive anywhere to walk – it’s just a case of stepping outside and the walks are right on their doorstep.

At the gardens of the main house (1000 metres from High Clachan) we have lots for children to do - a 60 metre zip wire, a 14 ft trampoline with safety net, a great wendy house with two floors and an amazing climbing frame, complete with swings, a back to back glider, look out house (with binoculars for spotting baddies), slide and climbing wall. There's also a campfire in the woods for toasting marshmallows.

Two dogs are very welcome at the farmhouse - there are lots of lovely walks for them around the estate and down to the shore. We charge £25 per dog per week/£20 per dog per short break and we ask that you let us know in advance to book them in.

Amazing weekend at High Clachan
Our stay at High Clachan couldnt have been any better and totally met all expectations! The house is stunning, loads of room for all the family and fully equipped. Beautiful views, paths and gardens with the added bonus of a play area near by with trampoline and zipline. Hosts couldnt have been more welcoming or friendly if they tried! Definitely on our list to visit again and would highly recommend! Its worth it for the homemade brownies alone!

Wonderful Holiday
We loved our stay at High Clachen. The House was beautifully decorated, with lots of space and light. It catered for all our needs as two families. The boot room was a godsend for drying off wet children and dogs from all the wonderful walks we had on the estate. The gardens were safe for the children and dog to play out and when we finally got them all to bed. There was plenty of room in the lounge to light the log fire, open a bottle of wine of chill out on the comfy sofa's. The little girls loved the bunk beds and the almost teen loved having a big room to himself and was impressed by the excellent wifi!! We will be back again when its a bit warmer for the paddleboards.

Scottish delight
This property really lived up to our expectations it was first class. Both Kate and Angus were available if we needed them and were there to welcome us. This house has all you could want for a lovely holiday. The kitchen is big and well equipped and the bedrooms are very spacious with lovely comfortable beds. What can I say about the en-suite bathrooms they are large and the roll top baths just call out to be used. Finally at the end of a cold day in February have been out walking what is better than lighting the wood burner and settling down. This was our first time in Scotland and formed part of a 60th birthday celebration, we weren’t disappointed. We managed a lot of walks around the estate despite arriving at the same time as storm Dennis and the beaches were just beautiful. We loved our night time trip to view the stars in the forest , but be warned it isn’t for the feint hearted as the road was narrow and it is very very dark, we did take torches and used them. The view though is more than worth it. Finally as we were in Scotland we thought it only right to take in both the Gin and Whiskey distilleries.

Gorgeous property
Gorgeous property where we got together as a family. Lovely spaces where we could be all together or have our own space. Everything there you need on a holiday. A lovely welcome pack, on arrival. Set in a scenic area of the North Rhins. Would certainly consider returning ourselves, as well as recommending to others.

Top Notch!!!
Whether you are a couple looking for a quiet week away, as we were, or having a family reunion, High Clachan farmhouse would be ideal – there is loads of space! All rooms are large! Entrance is into a large utility room with ample space for boots and coats. The kitchen is large, well equipped and open plan into a large dining area. There is also a large conservatory which could equally be used for meals (or putting the kids in while the adults eat together!!!). The lounge is comfortable with large sofas and a good TV, Freesat and a DVD player. We only had access to one bedroom but it was large and the en-suite was (have you guessed?) large with a comfortable bath and powerful shower. To the front there is a garden table ideal for dining outdoors with a large, flat lawn which is, again, ideal for kids. There is parking for a number of cars. We found the house clean and well equipped with maps, games, kitchen equipment, etc. and the walks and areas of interest on the Rhins of Galloway were wide-ranging. The wildlife is amazing and the castles, etc. fantastic. Angus and Kate took excellent but non-intrusive care of us and the whole holiday was extremely relaxing and enjoyable. Highly Recommended!

Nice, spacious, tidy and well equipped farmhouse
We really enjoed our stay in beautiful High Clachan Farmhouse and the area nearby in Dumfries and Galloway. The property is spacious and tidy and well equipped in the kitchen. Situated out in the country you watch wildlife and nature all around and relax in the quietness, free from city noice and stress. Stranraer, and Kirkcolm even more so on bikes, is a short distance to travel for shopping. The owners, Katie and Angus were really friendly and provided us with excellent service. We enjoed most of all being in and around the property, but also visiting nearby places and attractions like the Kilmorie stone, Tor of Craigoch, St. John castle and swimming pool in Stranraer, Portpatrick and the beach of Sandhead. We definitely recommend the property to others.

Ideal in so many ways!!
Our stay was perfect in every way. The accommodation exceeded expectations, was clean, well maintained and thoughtfully furnished with all the facilities one hopes to find. As the rest of our extended family were staying in the two other properties at Corsewall, the farmhouse was large enough to accommodate everyone at suppertime, most often firing up the bbq and cooking up a storm. Everyone enjoyed a truly memorable week. A big thank you to all concerned.

Family Holiday
Finding a property large enough to accommodate 5 adults and two children can be difficult. High Clachan fulfilled all our requirements, with wonderfully comfortable beds, 4 huge bathrooms and a great kitchen diner large enough to allow us to socialise while the food was being prepared. The sitting room was comfortable and the conservatory a brilliant space in which to play games (and dry the washing) It was such a peaceful place with views for miles. Angus met us as we arrived to ensure that we had everything we needed and made us feel that the house was our home for the time we were there. The house certainly ticked all the boxes for us all.

A fabulous farmhouse
We have just returned from a fantastic few days at high clachan farmhouse. The whole experience was excellent from beginning to end. The house is beautiful and spacious, with everything we could possibly have needed! The kids had lots of room to play. They loved the garden and had lots of fun watching the bunny rabbits run around in the next door fields! The extra touches, like the welcome package with the home made cookies, simply added to the whole experience. The owners, Kate and Angus, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The highlight of our stay was a stargazing night that they had arranged on the estate. All the children had great fun toasting marshmallows on the campfire and learning all about the stars. We will definitely be returning to High Clachan Farm and are looking forward to it already!

Generation Games
On arrival we were very impressed by your lovely spacious farm house. We loved the fantastic views, lovely walks on estate, fabulous conservatory where we had all our meals and played games every night with the children, while watching the deer, rabbits, and bird life. Annual fishing competition went really well and all enjoyed the spoils of the loch. although we ate out most nights finding some excellent restuarants in Stranraer, Sandhead, and Portpatrick< we also took advantage a few nights of the large kitchen and great cooking facilities in the house. We also enjoyed the games and sunsets. overall a great venue and base, great memories and fun by all three generations. would thoroughly recommend property as a great family holiday.

Perfect!
Just returned from a two week stay in this beautiful haven of peace and tranquility. Holidaying in Scotland every year we finally found this perfect house in the most perfect location. Walks in the woods, walks on the nearby beaches and through the beautiful estate gardens. Our children aged 6 and 4 have many happy memories of the wonderful nature scenes in abundance whilst there. We were all sad to leave. Would strongly recommend high clachan for a family holiday or gathering for those that appreciate what nature has to offer. The house is the perfect home from home with absolutely everything you could need and more. We 'll definitely be back there.:-)

Beautiful house, peaceful location
High Clachan is a wonderful getaway. The house has just finished being renovated so everything inside is brand new, though the house retains its original character and charm. It has super proportions, plenty of space for everyone and the sunny conservatory was a particular hit for whiling away the hours with a good book or for spotting birds and wildlife. It is beautifully decorated and tastefully equipped with all the necessary bit and pieces to be a home from home, as well as having added luxuries such as the large comfy beds and downy pillows. The house is in such a peaceful spot that you can almost hear the rabbits outside nibbling the grass. We especially enjoyed the walk from High Clachan down to Port Beg in the evenings and walking through the Corseweall estate, which was a treat to see in all its flowering glory. We also enjoyed making use of the visiting fish van and cooking venison from the estate, which was kindly provided by Angus and Kate, who were warm and welcoming hosts. There is plenty to enjoy in the area: we recommend visiting the sub-tropical gardens (we went to Logan and Dunskey Gardens), the pretty harbour in Port Patrick, a meal at Knockinghaam lodge, mountain biking in the National Forest and walking along the coast. We will surely return - next time with even more determination to spot a red squirrel!

The Carrick-Buchanan family has owned High Clachan Farmhouse for over 200 years. When Angus and Kate Carrick-Buchanan moved to Corsewall House in 2002, they set about renovating a number of properties including this pretty farmhouse so they could provide luxury, high-end holiday accommodation.

Why they chose this property

The Carrick-Buchanan family has owned High Clachan Farmhouse for over 200 years - it's one of a number of farmhouses and buildings on the historic, 3000 acre Corsewall Estate.

What makes this property unique

We completed renovated High Clachan Farmhouse in 2012, creating a wonderful holiday house with four bedrooms and three en suite bathrooms - so it's ideal for large families or family groups getting away together. The house is in a quiet and peaceful location in south west Scotland, far away from crowds, traffic jams and the stress of everyday life. It's surrounded by rolling countryside and is 3/4s of a mile from a pretty beach.
