A very comfortable double bed looks out through a large bay window into the south-facing garden. There is a cushioned window-bay bench, if you want to stretch out and read a book. In addition, there are 2 lounge chairs and a coffee table. A 43” Smart TV is mounted to a wall, and can be pulled out and extended via a TV bracket and turned in multiple directions, whether facing the bed or lounge chairs. Free Wi Fi connection and gas-fired central heating throughout. There is a selection of interesting books on the shelves.
The apartment is attached to the side of a large Edwardian House, where your hosts Caroline and Mark live. It has its own front door which is accessed via a separate pathway, away from the main house. Ferndale House has an interesting history. The central section of the main house was built from traditional ironstone; as a farm cottage in the early 18th century. The property was extended front and rear in 1910 and an annexe was built in 1982. Up until 2015, generations of the same prominent local business family had lived here for more than a century. Interestingly, the Cowman family counted T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) as a close family friend, who stayed at Ferndale House as their guest on numerous occasions.
Asfordby is in the Wreake Valley of north-east Leicestershire and is surrounded by rolling, open countryside. From the front door of the apartment, guests can enjoy many delightful walks, whether up on the hills offering superb panoramic views or walking around Frisby Lakes or the Priory Water Nature Reserve.
