About this property

Beautiful Cottage in Idyllic Village of Orton

New for August 2020, C17th Cumberland House is located in the picturesque village of Orton with a local pub, well stocked shop, 2 cafes and tempting chocolate shop all within walking distance. Alongside Cumberland Cottage (see reviews), this beautifully presented, cosy cottage sleeps up to 6 people. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on request for a small fee. Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales yet close to the Lake District with numerous places to visit and stunning local walks to be enjoyed.
The space
One the oldest properties in the village, 17th century Cumberland House is a beautifully presented, 3 bedroom property that oozes charm and character and has ample space for up to 6 guests. One well behaved dog (or 2 smallish) welcome on request for a small extra charge (£15 per dog). All we ask is that they aren't allowed on the furniture or left unattended in the the property without our prior consent.

Kitchen
The luxurious wooden kitchen features a large island with bar stools, granite work surfaces, a rangemaster double oven with gas hob, roomy fridge/freezer & dishwasher. There is also a microwave, 4 slice toaster and matching kettle, as well as all necessary crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils.

Dining Room
Featuring original beams, wooden flooring and a large oak dining table with 6 chairs, the homely dining room also has a comfy chair to curl up in in front of the woodburning stove. Bespoke oak bookshelves display a variety of fiction and children's books, maps, walking guides and magazines for use during your stay.

Living Room
Surrounding the lovely open fire are comfy leather sofas and chairs. Open up the coffee table and you will find a variety of board games, children's jigsaws and DVDs to help keep everyone amused. There is also a digital flat screen TV with Freeview, DVD player and super fast broadband connection.

Utility
In the functional utility you will find the washing machine and plenty of space to hang coats and store muddy boots. You can also find recycling boxes and bags for your convenience.

Bathroom
The bathroom is finished to a high specification, with traditional roll top bath, massive walk in shower, heated towel rail and ceramic tiles with underfloor heating, providing extra comfort.

Master Bedroom
The bedroom has a luxurious super king oak bed with top of the range mattress which along with the blackout blinds should help ensure you get a good night’s sleep. A double oak wardrobe has both hanging space and shelves and bedside tables with lamps provide further storage space for your belongings.

Bedroom 2
The twin bedroom has a lovely cosy feel with an oak chest of drawers, bedside table and blackout blinds. Both beds have full pocket sprung mattresses.

Bedroom 3 (with ensuite)
The bedroom has a pine double bed with extremely comfortable mattress, 2 pine bedside tables with lamps, a chest of drawers and a black-out blind. Behind one oak door you will find a small fitted wardrobe and through the other is a lovely, ensuite wet room.

Outside
To the front of the cottage there is a small self-contained sunny garden with table and chairs for eating out during the summer or enjoying your morning cup of tea!

There is a small back yard leading from the kitchen that has an outdoor tap/hose pipe for cleaning boots, bikes, dogs! etc. You can also use the yard to store small bikes and any other outdoor gear. Up a few steps to the left is a small garden area with bench that catches the morning sun. There you will find a washing line that you are welcome to use. Please note the grass area at the back belongs to the neighbours so, for obvious reasons, we ask that dogs only use the front garden.
Guest access
Guests will have access to the entire house and from and back garden areas.
Other things to note
We have been renting out Cumberland Cottage, our 1 bedroom property adjacent to Cumberland House, for the last 8 years. For bigger groups of up to 8 people the two properties can be let together. Please see reviews of Cumberland Cottage to give you an idea of the standard of accommodation, communication and cleanliness you can expect from us.
