About this property
Host & Stay | The Red Brick Barn
Summary:
Located just outside the sleepy village of Rookhope, Red Brick Barn is a postcard perfect holiday home with plenty of charm. Nestled within 40 acres of the striking North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you’ll soon forget the stresses of everyday life here.
Whether you’re looking for a tranquil getaway or a dog friendly adventure, this converted barn will certainly provide the ideal base for your stay.
The Space:
Red Brick Barn is a beautiful detached property packed with character. Inside you’ll find a living room complete with a log fire, two double ensuite bedrooms, an open plan kitchen diner and outstanding panoramic views of the countryside.
With low ceilings and a warm colour palette, the living room is homely and snug. Relax on the large, corner sofa with a good book or play games with your loved ones. As it gets colder outside, fire up the log burner and enjoy a cosy night in. Please note all logs are provided for your stay. Traditional in style, the space also includes a wooden dresser, benches and side table.
Head through the archway and you’ll find the open plan kitchen diner. With light coloured walls and mint green tiles, the kitchen has a bright and airy feel. Wooden cabinets and a Belfast sink add a country style which fits perfectly with the nature of the barn. Fully equipped for all self-catering staycations, you’ll have access to an oven, hob, toaster and kettle during your stay.
Ideal for socialising, the open plan kitchen diner allows your guests to gather and chat whilst others cook. With a round wooden table and four chairs, there is ample space for your party to enjoy meals together. Please note a highchair is also provided for little ones.
Also located on the ground floor is a spacious WC.
Outside you’ll find a gravelled area with outdoor furniture and incredible views of the countryside. A real treat, this outside space is an added luxury. You can enjoy al fresco dining with your party and drinks outside as the evening draws near. There is also a fire outside in the seating area so you can enjoy this space all year round.
Take the stairs up to the first floor and you’ll find two double ensuite bedrooms. Bold in colour, the first bedroom has buttercup yellow coloured walls to create a positive and cheery space and the second bedroom has deep purple soft furnishings and a striped carpet. You’ll enjoy your sleep at Red Brick Barn as both double beds feature crisp white linens and plush bedding. Please note one bedroom can be made up as a twin if this is more suitable for your stay.
Each bedroom has a clean and modern en suite with a walk in shower, WC and basin.
Host & Stay are committed to our owners that their homes are protected during guest bookings. For this reason, we require all our guests to transfer a Damage Deposit (refundable, subject to an administration charge) or, to purchase an Accidental Damage Waiver which will cover you for up to £500.00 of accidental damage during your stay.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to the property are accessed via a secure key safe and full details will be provided shortly before your arrival date.
There is free parking on the premises for two cars.
The Neighborhood:
The Red Brick Barn is located in the quaint village of Rookhope. Making up part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the barn has a lush green backdrop. Surrounded by stunning landscapes of heather clad moorlands, sweeping dales and winding rivers, there is plenty to uncover. With thriving wildlife and unspoilt scenery, it really does need to be seen to be believed. It is home to England’s largest waterfall and one of the darkest skies in the country where you can see 1000s of stars on a clear night.
If you’re looking for a relaxing retreat, you can enjoy long, quiet walks through the countryside. If you’d prefer more activity, the landscape is perfect for energetic hikes and you can also take advantage of a full range of outdoor activities including cycling, fresh water fishing, canoeing, sailing and horse riding.
The TV show Vera was filmed in this area, especially in Blanchland which is ten minutes away from Rookhope.
Getting Around:
Red Brick Barn is within walking distance of all that Rookhope has to offer and within one hours’ drive time of Durham and Newcastle.
The closest train stations to Rookhope are Riding Mill and Corbridge which are roughly a 35 minutes drive from the village. Both stations have direct routes to Newcastle and Carlisle, with connecting trains to Manchester, Liverpool and London.
There is a bus stop in Rookhope with a route through to Stanhope where you can get connecting buses to local towns and cities. Hop on the X21 route from Stanhope which travels to the Metro Centre and Newcastle City Centre.
Other Things to Note:
Because of the property's remote location, The Red Brick Barn is located up a half-mile farm track. Whilst the track can be a little bumpy it is accessible for most vehicles (the owner's daughter has a Citroen C1 which copes with it fine!).
Interaction with Guests:
We’re always available for our guests so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
