About this property

Brook House, Askrigg, Yorkshire Dales

This delightful two bedroom Victorian Yorkshire Dales house is set in the heart of Askrigg, Upper Wensleydale, home of the famous original Herriot television series 'All Creatures Great and Small'. Brook House boasts an open fire in the bright sitting room and two good sized bedrooms overlooking the village. This picturesque village has a cobbled central green, wonderful views and walks from the doorstep.

Enter into the house via the entrance porch that leads through to a bright and welcoming sitting room and dining area with an open fire and flooded with natural light from the bay window. The spacious and well-equipped, modern kitchen is to the rear. Upstairs, follow the turned staircase to reach both tastefully decorated bedrooms; a king-size bedroom with dual aspect windows overlooking the village; and a twin bedroom; along with a good size family shower room with rainfall shower overhead.

Bursting with character, Brook House is situated at the upper end of the village at the foot of Moor Road which stretches over the hill into the sought after Dale of Swaledale, home to Gunnerside; the small market town of Reeth; and ending at the bustling market town of Richmond, home to its very own Norman castle, Georgian theatre and traditional cobbled streets. Watch the world go by outside The Crown Inn over a refreshing drink or wander down for a bite to eat at one of the other local pubs in the village; or treat yourself to tea and cake in The Bakewell delicatessen at the bottom of the village.

Nicely presented cottage on a very busy corner.
The stay was lovely but spoilt by the lack of parking and very very pinched in space at the front. Large trucks and tankers have to get past, understandably but this presented a constant hazard to us right outside the door. I constantly tried to protect my car in an unsuitable space as its impossible to park there. I had a Ford Focus and I would not rebook because of this. Everything else is very nice. Its part of a very busy village, but unsuitable for guests who want to relax. I rebooked elsewhere in a peaceful location in another dales village because I needed it. Sorry, but its spoilt my holiday.
