A short journey takes you to the local market towns of Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell and Buxton with their excellent shops, inns, and restaurants. In addition to the Hardwick Estate, a short journey will take you to attractions which include Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Newstead Abbey, once home to the romantic poet Lord Byron, or even pick a spot for a picnic in the 3800 acres of Clumber Park. If history is your thing, the castles of Pevril, Riber and Bolsover are all local and worth a visit.
Always a hit with children of any age is Chatsworth Farm and adventure playground plus all year-round theme parks of Alton Towers or Heights of Abraham, not forgetting the cable cars at Matlock Bath (also the place to be especially on a Sunday if you are keen on motorbikes).
