The Neighborhood:
Clapham

Clapham is a varied, vibrant area of South London comprising of a huge Common, and a long High Street. Due to the area's size, as you'd expect, there's a great deal of variation in pretty much everything. It has an appealing mix of good transport links, urban character and plenty of attractive period homes which make it one of the most flourishing and sought after parts of south London. Shopping, transport connections and the social scene make it a truly fantastic place to stay.

Clapham residents from all walks of life are united by the eponymous Common. Despite being surrounded by busy arterial roads, it is a broad and tranquil green space beloved by all locals. A focal point for the community, all manner of sporting events and activities take place, as well as annual events including the popular SW4 festival.

Clapham is a town in South London with a stunning common at its heart and a lively, sociable population that combine to make it one of the most attractive and trendiest places to stay in the UK. Around Clapham Common are countless bars, cafes and restaurants in various pockets that attract swarms of people from all walks of life.

Once viewed as an ordinary neighbourhood “for the ordinary man,” Clapham has steadily been transforming since the 1980s. This southwest London locale is now known for its cultural contributions—overseas transplants and young graduates call Clapham home. Although it’s well-suited for commuters, Clapham is becoming a destination of its own as the neighbourhood’s cafes, pubs, and wine bars attract an easygoing crowd that appreciates its no-fuss atmosphere.

Wandsworth

Desirable residential streets, plenty of open space, a choice of schools and excellent transport links all attract young couples and families to Wandsworth, but until recently the waterside was blighted by its industrial past. Much of this has now been swept away and replaced with attractive apartments and riverside walkways that make the most of its excellent location. These new developments have lured young professionals to the area and in turn there's been a boom in restaurant and bar openings. Weekends are ushered in with a mix of people crowding the pubs like The Ship and The Alma, enjoying the wilds of the common or buzzing around one of the area’s many small shopping hubs.

The closest grocery stores are a 5 minute walk from the flat, along Northcoat Road and include a Marks & Spencer as well as a Co-Op food.

Basic amenities are covered at Southside Shopping Centre, considered the main town centre, although the redevelopment of the Young’s brewery site promises exciting changes.

Eating: Michelin starred Chez Bruce serves modern European cuisine. It’s extremely popular with local residents and has been cited by Harden’s as ‘Londoners’ favourite restaurant’ several years running. For a flavour of Umbria in Italy, head for Il Girasole, or for upmarket Chinese, try The Good Earth. The Chutney is a modern Indian restaurant where the emphasis is on not using artificial colours or flavours.

Drinking: The super trendy Northcote Road is a short stroll from the flat and offers an array of cocktail bars, pubs and fantastic eateries and cafe’s. The best known watering hole is The Ship, which has been serving ales, wine and food since 1786 at its riverside location. It has an extensive outdoor area, with views over the water and private heated booths, as well a barbecue in the summer. Also worth a visit are The Alma, which doubles as a boutique hotel, the family orientated East Hill and The Brewers Inn. The Hope on Wandsworth Common is a local favourite, and serves real ales alongside homemade burgers.

Culture: Book a tour of the National Trust owned 575 Wandsworth Road, a modest 19th century terraced house made extraordinary by the hand carved fretwork interior and collection of objets d’art.

Events: The Wandsworth Fringe takes place in May and is a celebration of creativity in Wandsworth, encompassing professional and amateur work of all kinds, from opera and dance to theatre, poetry and workshops.

Getting Around:
Tube: The closest underground is Clapham South, which falls under zone 2 on the Northern line. Regular trains take around 15 minutes into the West End.

Rail: Clapham Junction is a major rail network and is only an 8 minute walk from the flat. It acts as a hub into London with regular trains into Victoria and Waterloo, taking between 6 and 10 minutes. It also offers easy access into the countryside and beyond.

Bus: There is a bus stop opposite the flat, and the 219 takes you to Clapham Junction whilst the 77 is a route to Waterloo.

Rail: Regular trains to Waterloo run from Wandsworth Town railway station and the journey takes 12 minutes. From Wandsworth Common station you can get to Victoria in just over 10 minutes.

Tube: The nearest Tube station is Southfields on the District Line.

Bus: The area is well served for buses, with routes 28 (Kensal Rise), 37 (Peckham), 44 and 170 (Victoria), 87 (Aldwych), 156 (Vauxhall) and 485 (Hammersmith).

Overall, the apartment was nice. Initially, the bed support slats were broken on one side making sleeping difficult. When called, the maintenance man arrived soon and fixed the problem.
