About this property
Airy House & Garden, 5 min Drive to Saunton Sands
Summary:
This is a beautiful family home that’s just as joyful on the outside as it is in. Not only has it been finished to a superb standard, but you’re also just a quick five-minute drive from one of the UK’s very best beaches, Saunton Sands, so you’re set to have a holiday to remember.
The Space:
Step through the front door and you will be met with a light and bright home that has even more space than you’d imagine. Comprised of two sitting rooms, there’s ample room for 6 guests to spread out and relax (can accommodate up to 8 on special request, see notes section). Sink back into the comfort of two super squishy sofas in the front sitting room, which has been decorated in a rich blue with crisp white fittings and fixtures. A smart 4K TV ensures you’ll always have something to watch; whether it’s the latest series on Netflix or a retro kids’ classic. Bookcases are filled with a colourful array of books, which you are of course welcome to borrow, whilst vibrant artwork on the walls adds to the warm, uplifting feel.
The real delight, however, is at the back of the house where you’ll find a stunning open-plan extension complete with a contemporary kitchen and floor-to-ceiling doors that lead out to the garden. The kitchen is both stylish and well-equipped, making it a delight for cooking feasts for the whole family. Find a six-ring electric range cooker, microwave, Nutribullet, dishwasher and more. Then sit back and enjoy your meals from the comfort of the elegant kitchen island or the sociable farmhouse dining table.
On lazy, hazy summer days, the garden is a real treat and provides the perfect secluded spot to soak up the rays. Not only do you have a large dining table to enjoy alfresco suppers - equipped with a handy pergola for any shade seekers! - there is also a brilliant surfboard storage shed, where you will find an array of surfboards, bodyboards and beach essentials that is yours to borrow throughout your stay. Extensive care and consideration has been made to ensure your stay is as special as possible.
Upstairs, you will find two spacious and homely bedrooms. The master boasts a king-size bed with high-quality linens and furniture, whilst the second bedroom has a large single bed as well as bunk beds (double base with a single top). Two extra guests can also be welcomed downstairs in the front living room, on the large and very comfortable sofa bed to boot! A modern shower room with a toilet is to be found downstairs. A separate family suite with a bath and shower is shared by the bedrooms on the upper floor. One dog welcome with a fee of £20. . Both free and paid parking are available nearby.
The house is located right in the centre of the bustling village of Braunton, in the heart of North Devon. Not only is it bustling, the village is also admired for its convenient location between the flagship town of Barnstaple and the stunning beaches of Saunton Sands and Croyde. For more adventures, you could even head up to Ilfracombe, Combe Martin or to Exmoor to walk the beautiful moorland. However, with so many things to do locally, there’s little reason to venture far.
All around the South West, you’ll find expansive beaches that are all particularly breathtaking. Saunton (5 minute drive), Croyde (10 minutes) and Woolacombe (15 minutes) are the closest beaches, and all offer something slightly different. Saunton is backed by beautiful protected sand dunes, has fantastic surfing and an excellent Beachside Grill restaurant with tasty treats. Croyde has some of the best pubs around showcasing live music from local talents as well as a lovely Bistro. Meanwhile, Woolacombe is slightly more built up, with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. You can enjoy a game of pitch and putt or walk to the iconic Morte Point, once notoriously used by wreckers but now a National Trust gem. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, good surf can be enjoyed at all three beaches all year round - you can also book a class too!
The Tarka Trail is a 180-mile walking and cycling route and a great way for adventurers to investigate the area. The trail runs past great visitor attractions like Crow Point, Valley of the Rocks and Haldon Nature Reserve, and through popular towns that include Bideford, Okehampton, Torrington, Barnstaple and, of course, Braunton.
Braunton has some good dining options and we would highly recommend trying some of the local seafood delights! You’ll find Squires, The Corner Bistro, Siam Bistro and Meraki Pizza amongst others in the village itself. Whilst Williams Arms, a well-regarded traditional 16th-century pub is a short drive away. And, as the house is in the centre of the village, all of the amenities (which also include convenience food stores, multiple (!) surf shops, cafes, takeaways and pubs) are right on your doorstop – no need to jump in the car!

Getting Around:
Due to the remote nature of Devon, we would recommend bringing a car for your stay. There is free parking nearby on the local streets, as well as in the paid car park.
The closest train station to the house is Barnstaple, which is an 18-minute drive. Regular trains run from here to Exeter St Davids, where you can pick up a direct fast train to Bristol or London Paddington. Local bus routes also be utilised and these run along the coast towards Croyde and Woolacombe. Our guest guide has more information on the local transport.
Other Things to Note:
The property is best set up for a maximum of 6 guests, however it can in fact sleep up to 8 across the 2 bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living room. This is only available with prior agreement.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome with a fee of £20/dog (max 2) - we may consider more on special request depending on the breed. They must be kept off sofas and beds, cleared up after and not left in the property unattended.
Interaction with Guests:
We will be available via message, email and phone during your stay. Any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
