About this property

Elk Ridge - cherokee casino GSMNP, Elk Ridge - cherokee casino GSMNP

🍁 The weather is cool and blue skies on most days! Perfect time for a visit.
Completely remodeled 2/2. Our cabin has a beautiful modern design with vaulted ceilings, lots of windows and rustic mountain charm. Very private yet close to everything. It sits on a mountain ridge in the trees with relaxing mountain views!

Our cabin is located at the end of a paved road and although it sits up on a ridge you do not have to endure scary, winding dirt roads to get to it. 5 minutes drive to Cherokee, 10 minutes to Bryson City and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad or the Famous Blue Ridge Parkway...30 minutes to the top of Clingman's dome in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park or Maggie Valley to tube and ski at Cataloochee!!

Great romantic get away for two or bring the family for fun in the Smoky Mountain National Park just minutes away.
Enjoy all kinds of outdoor fun: whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, boating, waterfalls, ziplining, and horseback riding, wildlife viewing and photography, and scenic drives.
Also, small towns with art, crafts days, live music venues, brewing and great food. There are summer music concerts and festivals and quaint mountain towns all around the area. Our cabin has all the comforts of home while retaining that rural NC mountain charm.

Harrah's Cherokee Casino and Concert Hall is just minutes away making our cabin a great affordable stay while still trying your luck at this very popular resort attraction. Top name entertainers and musicians visiting all year!

With 2 queen beds this cabin is perfect for 2-4 people, but could accommodate a couple extra kids willing to sleep in the main living space on the inflatable mattress (you must let us know in advance if you are interested in this option so we can provide additional linens, the mattress, etc. There is a $12/pp/day fee over 4 people). With a full kitchen including dishwasher, you can save money and prepare your own meals or just relax and eat in nearby Cherokee or Bryson City. We have a BBQ and firepit on the property (you supply wood, charcoal, and food) and extra chairs for outdoor use, located in the ground level with the washer and dryer, all available for guests convenience. All consumable products are renters responsibility to bring. There will be a starter amount of paper products/soap for the first day or so. Ingles in Bryson City is where most people do their provisioning.
If you are in the area for the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad experience, it is about 15 minutes away. During the winter months, enjoy the Polar Express, family's show up in matching pajamas. You might also drive about 45 minutes to Maggie Valley to enjoy downhill snow skiing and tubing too.

During spring, summer, and fall, boating, fishing, waterskiing, kayaking, paddlboarding and tubing at nearby Fontana Lake, Deep Creek, the Oconoluftee River and the Little Tennessee River are favorite past times for our family. Boats can be rented at several nearby marinas including Alarka, and Prince Marinas.

Within a minute of the cabin is the beautiful Oconaluftee River with access points (See Lake Ela Recreation Access Area) for kayaking, tubing, fishing, or picnicking on its banks.

If festivals and shopping are your thing, there are lots of options all around in cute towns like Bryson City, Cherokee, Sylva, Dillsboro, Franklin, Waynesville, and a little further (1 hour) is Asheville!!

Our cabin is dog friendly with a $60 FEE/pet/ stay. Undeclared pets will result in loss of your security deposit. Please do not allow dogs on furniture or beds at any time and when unattended MUST be in a kennel or take them with you on leash, to explore the very pet friendly area.
Dogs must always be on a leash anywhere outside of the cabin. Please do not allow dogs to bark or be a nuisance to others in the area. Failure to follow these rules may result in the loss of the security deposit.

Additional cleaning services can be scheduled during your stay for an additional fee. Fee depends on what services you want, please communicate in the chat before or during your stay.

We pay for internet service, however; please keep in mind, we are in the mountains and there are frequent outages due to down trees, storms, etc. Frontier Communications will send a message when it is out & when it is restored. No refunds if internet service goes out during stay.

Check in:
Any time after 3:00 pm

Check-out:
Before you depart at the end of your stay, please send us a message letting us know when you plan to depart, so we can schedule our cleaners. This is especially helpful if you plan to leave earlier than the standard checkout time of 10 am. Please note that late checkout without prior approval to confirm availability that day will result in a $50 late fee for each half hour after 10 am. If late fee or damages or damages not paid within 3 days of departure the security deposit will be forfeited.
Often there is a new guest arriving on the day of your departure so late checkout can not be approved. Pre-approved late checkout is on a case by case basis and the charge is determined by the amount of time extended.
If our available dates don't work for your travel plans, inquire about our other VRBO properties.
All communication before, during and after your stay will be in the VRBO chat, we will monitor for updates and for questions during your stay as well.

Thank you

Travelled with 2 dogs and kid

Cabin was beautiful and cozy. clean. It was truly a rustic cabin in the mountains. Steep driveway which can be slick. It did get cold and snow while we were there and days before we mentioned to management that there was not remote to the mini split in the cabin so we could use heat but they didn’t seem concerned. Fireplace was not ideal and smelt like gas. Spacer heaters were provided which did help. Pets not allowed on furniture which kind of made it feel not pet friendly? The views were beautiful and the location is convenient to Cherokee and Bryson City for activities. Quiet street.

Overall, it was a good stay. However….

We arrived an hour prior to check-in. Most all places will let you go ahead and check in, if the property is ready. Despite the property being ready for guest, we weren’t allowed to check in early without an additional $30 for the hour. There was a spider web, complete with spider in the primary tub. There are spider webs all over the exterior of the property. The exterior is unkept. Both beds are really firm and we tried sleeping on both. The air conditioner is in the den and seems too small to cool the entire house. The guest bedroom has a ceiling fan that goes nuts when on high. The washer and dryer is in the basement. There is not a handrail at the top of the basement stairs. Property was clean.

Cabin in the woods

The cabin was clean, views were great. Missed proximity to water as hubby wanted to fish. Proximity to Cherokee and Bryson city was spot on. Only drawback was cabin was pet friendly and area also but neighbors let their Rottweilers out unleashed during walk stating 'they live here' which was unsettling as any visitors may feel targeted and uncomfortable.

Decent place

The place is well located within 25 minutes of Smokey Mountain National Park. Dog hair and human hair all over the bedspread - an unfortunate start to our stay. A/C inadequate for the house and only cools the living room which is strange. Otherwise good location and enough space.

It was a very nice place to stay with our family on a little fishing trip get away, the neighbors were great, and it's far enough away for peace and quiet and close enough to town to enjoy everything Cherokee has to offer, communication with hosts was also great!

This is a beautiful cabin well worth staying here then at one of the Motels or Hotel. Beautiful view of the mountains and nature. If I was you I would book this if it’s open. This is a short trip to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge through the Smokey’s, you won’t be disappointed. Mary was very communicative from start to finish. Five Stars.

A clean and quiet cabin

Our family had a great time staying here. The views were spectacular and the cabin was very clean and quiet. The cabin is in a great location in relationship to being close to a lot of different attractions such as the waterfalls, park head trails, shopping, museums, etc. The hosts were very accommodating and responded to any queries immediately. All of the above, helped to make our stay at our very first log cabin a relaxing and wonderful vacation!

Wonderful cabin close to many things.

We loved our stay at this location and would have loved a longer stay! The place was very comfortable and peaceful. The location is great and is close to a lot of things on the south side of the national park. The one thing of note is that you enter at the top of the stairs in the photo listed, so consider if you can handle the stairs. We would stay again! Thank you.

Had a great stay!

This was my second vacation stay to this property, and for a good reason..I was never disappointed! I loved the view, the scenery, the cabin had everything we needed, and it was neat and clean. Nice balcony and a fire pit for late night relaxation..and it’s not far from the main sites of the Smokey Mountains! I will definitely be back again!

Cherokee cabin-Whittier

The manager was easy to communicate with, easy checking and checkout . House appeared to have renovated with 2 newer bathrooms and kitchen. Location was an easy drive to Cherokee casino. Loved being able to bring our fur baby ! Downside of this rental - 1-very steep steps to gain access to front door. Would not recommend this for anyone with hip or knee issues or small children. 2-no Mountain View at all! Only view you have is the neighbors house, which is close. 3- only one ac wall unit that didn’t cool the bedrooms very good. I’m sure in the cooler months it would be fine.3- only 1 tv in house. 4- bedsheets and spread very thin . 4- needs updated/ more comfortable furniture in LR

About the host

Host profile image
My husband and I are teachers hoping to retire to Western NC. I have been coming to this area for most of my life with my family and when my husband also fell in love we decided to start spending part of our time off here. Since we love traveling we can not afford to just have it sitting empty, lucky for those that happen to stumble across our wonderful little place.

Why they chose this property

We remodeled a cabin about 20 minutes west of here and began renting as a vacation cabin in 2015 (VRBO#728604). It was so successful that we found ourselves without a place to stay during the summer. So we began our search for the perfect spot for another cabin close to all of the activities. We found it in Elk Ridge. We completely remodeled it and are looking forward to sharing it with other families coming to the beautiful Smoky Mountain National Park and surrounding areas for vacation.

What makes this property unique

It's location minutes from the GSMNP, Whittier (Smoky Mountain & Sequoyah Golf Courses) and Cherokee with it's unique attractions (Harrah's casino, top entertainment, Unto these Hills). Also, 10-20 minutes from other quaint mountain towns such as Bryson City, Sylva, and Dillsboro for restaurants, shopping, and festivals and farmer's markets. 30-45 minutes from Waynesville, Maggie Valley, Franklin and 1hour from Asheville.
It is so close to the Park that deer and elk regularly show up on our property. Feels rural but not isolated, close to everything. Sit on the deck and watch the sun set behind the mountains.
