Lovely Retreat in Wiltshire
Our stay at the property started shortly after our booking. We received information and friendly tips from the hosts, which helped us to have a really enjoyable few days. The welcome was warm and the thoughtful hosts had even provided Christmas decorations and a card for our family, which helped to get us in the Christmas spirit. The location is ideal for visiting places like Bath, Lacock and the Cotswolds and the towns of Royal Wootton Bassett and Chippenham are both close by. The property is cosy and comfortable and had everything that we needed for a three-day stay.

Fabulous property
A great property in a super location. The conversion of old farm buildings has been lovingly done by the owners who have kept the character whilst creating a comfortable and contemporary holiday space. Hosts Katrina and Huw went out of their way to help make our stay enjoyable whilst also giving us space and privacy. Spotlessly clean, well equipped and peaceful property. Would recommend.

About the host

Hi,

Originally from Australia (Britt Parents from Stoke-on-Trent still live in OZ) my husband Huw and I stumbled across this derelict farm and just fell in love. Perhaps the massive specimen Red River Gum at the end of the driveway was a sign with the Cotswold Stone and just the warm feeling the place gave us as generations before us really put their heart and soul into the buildings and we are so lucky that all or the original buildings remain in situ. There are thirteen barns in total.

When we found her 12 years ago she was a skeleton of her former self and and we could not even see the outbuildings when we brought the place. They were covered in vines and scrap metal was all over the place.
A JCB was here for two weeks just clearing what we could not do ourselves!

So we set up home in a mobile home (for 5 years) now the mess is cleared and she is finally returning to her former beauty.

We are sure you will love the farm as much as we do and its our ambition to restore her fully and to share this wonderful place with others for generations to come.

We share the farm with a lama (Duke who loves selfies), a shetland, horses and 4 dogs.

Look forward to meeting you, Best Katrina

Why they chose this property

There is evidence of medieval farming - one of our fields is Grade II Listed as there is evidence of Ridge and Furrow Drainage System Cultivated By Hand this former Estate Dairy Farm was once owned by Lord Carnarvon, Lord Meux and in the 1950 by Mr Martin White (the Air to R Whites Lemonade). We are very happy to give you a tour of this historic property.
